Bernie and Kozmo Vynyl both worked on Joe and screwed everything up. Jones says so in Audio Ammunition Google series. Unfortunately, Joe’s ego spun out of control…they should have taken a break after the Far East tour in ‘82. To pump out that much material and styles in 5-6 years is unheard of. They oozed talent and originality. Best band of all time.
While firing Mick was a huge mistake… this era of The Clash had really good songs until Bernard ran off and had in house musicians play the guitar and used a drum kit. There’s some brilliant performances of Three Card Trick, North & South, Dirty Punk, and a few of the rest. Life is wild still horrible lol
What bullshit television company filmed and edited this, The drummer is called Pete Howard and the guitarist is called nick sheppard They got the names wrong.
Shame The sound went half way through interesting to hear things Joe says but this wasn't the Clash & the fest they mention was Mick Jones last gig hundred thousand people there & they played career opportunities oh dear I still have that full gig on an old vhs tape
They were great live. Their last album could have been great if it wasn't for Bernie Rhodes. The album also got delayed bacause Joe's mother got terminal cancer, and he drifted away handing the whole process over to Bernie. Listen to Do it Now and Sex Mad Roar, the only full band studio recordings of this lineup. They are great!
Strummer banged on and on about how 'real' The Clash were since he and Simmonon kicked Headon and Jones out of the band. But look at the punk-by-numbers pricks they surrounded themselves with! The Clash were no better than Van Halen, in terms of integrity, by this point.
I think the split with mick was inevitable...in many ways......the clash werent finished when mick or topper got fired......they were already........mick himself hadnt written a good song anymore since a few in sandinista......to say the least......lets face it......by the time combat rock came out it was all over......that record is nearly as unlistenable as ctc.........
I loved this interview when I saw part of it on the New Music 21 years ago. Thank you for uploading the whole thing!
+danielscissorhands Really is a great one. Light hearted at the same time. Always love seeing that!
the Clash in name only...
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN THANK YOU FOR THIS!

watch the movie "rise and fall of the clash"-even joe knew that firing mick was a huge mistake....
No Mick, No topper... NO CLASH
I think the later band was great live. It was Bernie Rhodes who ruined the whole thing. Listen to the bootleg Give Em Enough Dope, really great!
Joe with his boy-band. And it was bongo drums that were their speciality!
the sound disappears at 5.20!! I was enjoying that >:(
I can't take anything Joe says seriously I just keep laughing
+HOW TO PUNK we are his friends
Well for starters he's name is pete Howard and the other guy is nick sheppard not mick sheppard god what a insult.
Changed my life
Other than Paul Simonon the other guys should just sit quiet. For a quick minute when the "drummer" was talking I thought I was watching spinal tap.
good idea to fire mick jones.....worked well for them
it would be like the beatles firing paul mccartney in 1964
Y didn't he introduce Paul S. in the beginning of the interview? That was weird!
It isn't. He just introduced the newest members.

No topper, no rock the casbah
Why they be spelling Simonon Simenon
What bullshit television company filmed and edited this, The drummer is called Pete Howard and the guitarist is called nick sheppard They got the names wrong.
Cut The Crap sounds like Sham 69 had a baby with Cindi Lauper.
Thank Bernie Rhodes for that one. What an egomaniac!
Shame The sound went half way through interesting to hear things Joe says but this wasn't the Clash & the fest they mention was Mick Jones last gig hundred thousand people there & they played career opportunities oh dear I still have that full gig on an old vhs tape
+Lyndsey Franklin That's awesome you have it on tape. Would have loved to have been around to see them live
Pretty sure it's the same 5-minute clip played twice, the second time the sound is gone.
I saw that full thing a few years ago and it was very entertaining. It's definitely a 10 minute thing
you're right actually GoCotton. It is same thing twice. Shame as I could easily listen to more of it. Joe was at his best here
Man, never noticed those ears before
The clash had well sold out at this stage.
Not even a very good CLASH tribute band . Poor Joe really effed it up and albeit too late , he knew it .

don't exaggerate Lol Joe realized the irony of it all soon after and broke up the band, and he apologized to Mick and Topper even gave Topper money.
Yes I know he did. Still, for a time there in the mid-eighties he was a righteous hypocrite.
this is somewhat forced.....the self importance is hard to take
at least johhny lydon had some fun....pissing off the press....
they reinvented the world by putting out a crappy record.
Combat Rock is GOOD!!!
Joe was starting to become a carichature of himself here. Just a bunch of jaded cynical jargon. The heart and soul of it is gone.
Check out the book We are The Clash. It goes into all of the heavy stuff Strummer was dealing with since the break-up and throughout the Clash II era.
Fake CLASH
