@@dce7845 I'd say yes as well. The Entity series pretty much also fits as well to the 'weird' looking monsters of the old artworks. Personally though, I'll always think cards like Black Ray Lancer, Silent Honor DARK, Dingirsu and Flying Fortress SKYFIRE will always have some of the best artworks Yugioh can have. But there will always be something there for someone.
I will forever love the card Il Blud, because you look at it and go: What the hell is this my man? Old YGO in a nutshell: Creepy artwork + confusing text + random name + either way too underpowered or broken AF
Aside from just old artwork, when the game first started and it was 99% normal monsters, it was interesting reading all of their backstory and not having to memorize every cards effect.
One thing I particularily hate about this decades cards is the artwork is so detailed, that it makes them so tiny. I have a hard time remembering new cards, sometimes it takes a couple seconds to find what im looking at and where the head is of a monster. Some artwork is good but the problem for me is some artwork just gets so small with all the details
I mean, I love me some waifu cards but I have no real defense here outside of card type diversity that started as far back as Heros and Charmers, which gave cards more human, recognisable features. Even those two archetypes has a monstrous edge to them since the Charmers originally get possessed by their familiars after they die... which is way darker than whatever the hell Witchcrafter is. At the same time, Smug Verre is such a great card. So yeah, you win this round Farfa. Curses
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 Popularity does not equal good card design nor does it capture the essence of Farfa's argument. He's stating that Yugioh has lost the aspect of monsters and become more about weirdly designed monsters (I'm assuming he would include something like Performapal but since they weren't mentioned I can only assume), as well as the bigger problem he's addressing where Yugioh is becoming a game where waifus are a monster type. Dark Magician Girl was the first and most likely the start of the problem, since she doesn't feel like an ancient and powerful spellcaster and is clearly a waifu bait card. Hell, Withcrafters feel more like proper Wizards than Dark Magician Girl. Just because the waifu cards are now normalised doesn't mean they're not a problem. You also don't have to be an eldlich horror to be a monster. I'm sure Farfa was fine with Harpies, Gaia the Fierce Knight, Buster Blader, Cyber Dragons and even something more recent like Battle Wasps (Poor deck... you were fun for that first week of hype). All these decks are very clearly monsters or at the very least competent warriors that fought in a war of some sort. Buster Blader and Gaia are (supposedly) regular humans but they never feel like it due to how their designs give them a more monstrous edge. Dark Magician does feel human, but also like an ancient wizard from a fantasy world that has power beyond our imagination. Even Toons, the 'silly' deck is made up of some genuinely creepy and corrupted versions of other cards, feeling like a mockery whilst also feeling like they still capture the essence of what a monster is. It's also important to note Farfa never states the new cards are badly designed or even that they're not as good as previous designs (DID YOU KNOW HE HAS THREE ULTIMATE RARE TOUR GUIDE?!), just that they lack the feeling of being monsters. Dark Magician Girl feels neither monstrous or ancient/mystical. She feels like an anime girl. Same for Sky Striker (a really cool and unique design gimmick that works really well with the effects of the cards) or Witchcrafter (a deck with fun and goofy lore and a LOT of personality). They just show a very different direction that Yugioh is heading in and that is effecting the entire game (we get one waifu deck a year at least, and waifu cards are added to other decks. Adamancipator has the three researchers who are all just regular anime people, something you'd never find in olden Yugioh). Again, Charmers die and get possessed and Traptrix are actually monsters that use cute girls to lure people in to eat them to Witchcrafters, the silly wizards at wizard school and Dragonmaids who are cute girls who can turn into very gentle dragons.

On the topic of card art: Anyone else think that Hope for Escape looks like a rough draft of a power metal album cover? Just look at covers for music albums by bands like Stratovarius or Dragonforce and you might see what I mean.
I like them for looking like a SPELL or TRAP. Most spells and traps now are kinda just events in a storyline which I like but I feel like they should be a different kind of card. Like polymérisation, THAT, is a spell, the art of combining 2 things together. Mirror force, now THAT, is a trap. Compare that to, idk, world legacy clash or meta verse.
I like how you critque new card designs especially the anime girl stuff and bring up fair points, yet the one framed giant version of an old card in the background is literally just a pink haired female tour guide xD
Despair From the Dark is always my favourite example of old-school Yugioh art. Even the name is seriously evil. Then there were all the spells and traps showing people being tortured or falling foul of ancient tombs and magic. I mean, look at Dark Snake Syndrome...wtf is happening there?
Funny enough the card in japanese is just called "cyclops" but the localization team used to have a rule that when a monster had english words they would translate it to japanese
Castle of Dark Illusions looks a lot cooler than most of the cards we get today and it's just a friggen floating castle. 920/1930 were such sick stats, but Konami caught on really early that the players who played their trading card game were not going to be very good at math

The older art was just far more unique and most the monsters were either somewhat grotesque, imposing or even just looked remotely fit for battle.
@@ribosome1681 Fluffals were pretty much designed to fit their user first and being an archetype artwork-wise second. It's themed around the idea of an innocent looking toy revealing its true colors, which is basically something that describes Sora's role as a traitor well
i think its really interesting to look at the old school style of artwork compared to the new style
im not really a fan of one over the other, but i think we need a legitimate distinction between stuff like Sangan, and Raye. perhaps Monster and Non-Monster? (im just spit balling here)
I remember when I was a kid Sorcered of the Doomed scared the shit out of me.
I’m not sure but I think all the old art was done by Takashi himself but now they bring different artists to draw the cards I think
We need now more monster archtypes which are drawn like from a instinct historic life form monsters lexicon from the 40s.
For a change, I would enjoy actual content, since, you know, I'm not part of the 27% or whatever percent and I'm actually subscribed. Instead of regular half assed advertisements to watch your streams.
Amen brother.
I do miss the old crazy monster designs, but I also love yugioh variety of art. You can have something as ridiculously squishy as Murphy or demonically metal as Burning Abyss.
Nice set of Triple Ultra Rare "Tour Guide" from the Underworld Farfa.
If my monsters dont have sticky icky wicky yucky sucky tentacles, claws, cyclops eyes and bugs all over them, they cannot be my favourite archetype. Lets make that happen, no more waifu to get back the TRUE yugioh laifu
The Chad tentacles vs The Virgin Waifus
@@ssengageisop3952 I've watched enough hentai bla bla bla you get it
Tindangles, tentacly fiends with maths: true horror
“OlD YuGiOh HaD bEtTer aRt cuZ tHey LoOk TeRyfying”
Literally the entire Entity, Zombie, Invoked monsters
Hell, Caliga is literally mutated Aleister
Ah yes, back in the day we had frightening and menacing monsters like Dark Magician Girl
That's a nice looking car you got for a thumbnail
Farfa : Old Yu-Gi-Oh! Artwork was better
also Farfa : put that giant card Tour Guide of Underworld in the background
Best yugituber ever! Brings everything ON Point, keep going
Don't insult the beauty of my Vendreads! Revendread Slayer is a frickin' masterpiece!
Day 180 of waiting for Vendread support.
slayer is the most meh of the vendreads even though their are also my favourite visual wise, they look like a freaking dystopia iced earth cover mixed with spawn, doesnt mean that farfas point is wrong though.
What, there's a Vendread card that's a True Draco at the same time?
You’ll never top payne my guy
I actually really enjoy the "empty videos".
That royal family comment killed me XD
On the topic of card art: Anyone else think that Hope for Escape looks like a rough draft of a power metal album cover? Just look at covers for music albums by bands like Stratovarius or Dragonforce and you might see what I mean.
I love the art of spell/trap in the old days. They are dark, brutal and edgy (even bloody as hell).
@@firewolf950tfwgaming7 metaverse artwork is fine, world legacy clash is an in-archetype card who want to develop lore
I know right, so stupid how generic anime people like kagemusha of the blue flame are called monsters when compared to real shit like D/D orthros.
I mean, look at Dark Snake Syndrome...wtf is happening there?
what happened is that over time people realized that edgyness is just cringe.
Doesn't help that Blood Shepherd in VRAINS used Despair from the Dark to give Soulburner a PTSD breakdown
Im looking for someone with 3 ulti tour guides? Do you know any?
I was today years old when I realised hitotsu-me giant literally means "one eye giant"
Funny enough the card in japanese is just called "cyclops" but the localization team used to have a rule that when a monster had english words they would translate it to japanese
Same for me, at the difference i didn't notice it by myself after 15 years, i learned it from you, so it's even worse...XD
Just like how sangan is critter, and Jinzo is android
@@LomasneyAaron Jinzo's japanese name is Jinzoningen - Psycho Shocker (Jinzoningen meaning "Android")
Moto Kuchoma yes, and Jinzoningan shortened to Jinzo
Bruh I noticed... Another reason why I don't buy new cards. It's hard to find a good artwork now adays
Castle of Dark Illusions looks a lot cooler than most of the cards we get today and it's just a friggen floating castle. 920/1930 were such sick stats, but Konami caught on really early that the players who played their trading card game were not going to be very good at math
When everything started turning into robots was around the timeninstarted not bothering paying attention to card art work, i genuinely couldn't have told borrelsword and borreload have differnt coluored wings
OCG Artwork of Fiend comedian will always be my favorite
The invoked fusions are nice af
For third grade show and tell i brought in necroface and my teacher said it was inappropriate.
Polymerization fuses trif and farfa into farfif
I'm giving this video a like and comment because you mentioned my favorite card of all tie. Necroface!
Also Jerry Beans Man is a work of art.
The Chad Pumpking the King of Ghosts vs the Virgin Jack-o-Bolan
Artist still don't have a credit line.
One time when you clap at the end of the video you should make a FMA reference.
Alright I subbed just make a conclusion to wrap up your videos. A few months ago I thought you were "an almost there channel". Now get that 100k and hit the pedal to the metal
zoo king alpha from phantom rage has that old card style to him imo
Ok but Vampire Lord, one of the OG monsters also looks like a pretty anime boy and is a Zombie because thats what a vampire is, same with Sucker. Also Anime Dark aspect girl? DMG is one of the most well known yugioh cards.
Vampire Lord (and most other Vampires) at least had an imposing or noble look to them, which befits their generally aristocratic nature
Sucker isn't even close to lord. Vampire lord had this weird wall master cape, green skin and is still imposing, whilst vampire sucker is just a lame generic anime goth lollie vampire girl that looks like they came from some shitty hentai.
@@ribosome1681 Hell, Sucker is the sole exception in her own archetype, being the only one without the aristocratic aesthetic
To be completely fair, harpie lady and other minor stuff were a thing in "old yu gi oh", but yeah the monster category nowdays sees an influx of waifu shit (skystriker, dragonmaid, trickstars) or candies (madolche) and the list of not so monstrous monsters could go on. Monarchs are cool tho
Yeah but Harpie Lady and Amazoness' were actually intimidating and looked dangerous. Modern "waifu" cards look the least bit interesting, cool or threatening.
Bro doomking balerdroch is looks like o king of zombies in the artwork
