Now I finally found the Toyota I loved when I was just a young Airman stationed near Alamogordo back in the early 1980s. The Toyota dealership had these but I was poor and never could get one. Finally and now Ive owned a Tacoma and have a Tundra. These are awesome especially yours. Thanks for posting. Beautiful truck. Also the 4 wheel drive short beds were what I loved. They didn't come factory anything like you have accomplished.
I have an 81 deluxe. 4" lift, carb'd 3.8 buick v6, turbo 350 transmission, 33's. You did a good job of keeping it look original other than the obvious.
I had one of these new and it was so capable off road ... I love that truck but you may want to consider a rear bumper just gorgeous... they look so cool going down the road
I had 2 84 Toyota 4x4 one RN 60 the other was an RN 65 I ran 16-38.5-15 Super SWAMPERS. 9 suspension 3body 5.71 to 1 gears with a TRD locker in the rear. I used a steering arm with the ball on top and an adj drag link SS brake lines and a downy clutch. I miss it and those days. Thanks!
So many things wrong being said in this video, sas'ed means solid axle swapped, this truck came factory with a solid front axle, original front housing is also wrong, the 1979-1980 had no lower truss, this front housing has the half factory lower truss that came in the 81-83 trucks. those are not dana 60 lockout hubs, just crappy warns that are weaker than the factory Toyota ones. the rear shock setup being inboarded on top allows you to run a longer shock and it doesn't become a limiting factor on suspension travel.
Beautiful baby! I just inherited a 1980 Deluxe Toy 4x4. In amazing condition considering it sat parked in a field for 2years! When they got it off the trailer on my property I couldn't wait to see what condition the motor was in so I put gas in it and a can of berrymans and cranked it up! It took a few times but it started and ran a little rough but after a little work it starts every time, purrs like a kitten. First test drive out it was ROUGH! I heard metal on metal chunk, chunk, after new tires and shocks all around it rides great! The only problem I'm having is lighting issues. I just now started on the lighting system and WTH? The back right brake light lights for the blinker and blinks, and you know it, the blinker light lights up for the brake light no blinking... 🤔😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Yah agree. I just bought a half year 1985 Toyota 4x4 DIESEL! (Original 2.2l) This past weekend. Solid front axle. They started the IFS front end half way through 85 and first full year was 86.
I had an '82 long bed Toy, just stock put that little girl in 4 low and swear that girl would climb trees, may sound unpatriotic but old toy pick up just can't be beat, well mods make them EVEN better!!
The video came up again, that thing looks so sick on 38s, I’m gona go up a size when my 35s wear out, but they are so dang lite, a set of good tires takes forever to wear out
I remember when these came out. The commercials were awesome, but seeing them driving around town was increadable. I had an 87'. Sold when i had a couple kids....stupid. i kick myself all the time
I thought the same. Needs longer springs all round. Also he didn't have any idea about the inverted rear shocks..... would ride pretty rough with all them leafs
man i was really liking the truck right up till he explain how he went completely ricer with the ridiculously lame red stitching on the interior! who did it for you? pimp my ride?
I have two 79, three 83, one 85, and one 88. so 1st and 2nd Gen Toyota trucks just like this. mine are are original as you put it. I find nothing wrong with this. it's just good to see someone appreciate and actually drive them again. if it doesn't bother me I fail to see your problem
This video hurts my head. Who ever built this thing needs to figure some shit out.. like who spends the money on tg rear and leaves the front stock, when stock rear can take 10x more abuse on bigger tires than even a built front. Not to mention “sas” on a factory solid axle truck.
Never lift those Toyota's over 2" just asking for problems,, wind blow that over! Those cabs so small that's why in 84 started Xtra cabs, that truck has strongest trans Toyota ever made, too showy for me and to high, I end up rolling it not for me!
Beautiful truck. Was just a little disappointed to not see a 20r or 22r under the hood.
81 was a factory solid front axle.
A real sweetheart of a Toyota pickup truck. Beautiful red paint ❤

nice truck, don't see very many 1979-83 Toyota trucks around anymore, I remember they were commonly seen back in the late 2000's.
Cuanto vale la troca
Can’t be a SAS when it came with a factory straight front axel
Right. I think the moron meant he swapped the axles from another truck. Definitely not a SAS lol
The badassary of this pickup truck is bar none phenomenal

That the best Toyota I've seen on UA-cam.
Bummer he went with a gm power plant . If only it had a 3.4 w/ a Trd supercharger to keep it yota true & true .
I agree 100%, 3.4 on that truck woud have been epic
Toyota 3L and 2.8L turbo diesel
1KZ 1KD 2KD engines
Best Toyota motors are diesel !
Expect for the trusted 22re
Excellent! The Best Ever Small Truck. Toyota "The King of Tonka Toys" Great Job give you Five Stars *****.

Karnage Fabrication still a dope ass rig though but I agree.
Yeah this man lost all my respect when he said sas
yeah instead of sas he probably meant just a shackle relocation for longer leafsprings. That'd be my guess.

One of my dream builds! Saw one ls swapped with 3/4 ton axles and t56 6sp that was awesome. This truck is sweet!!!
You Got More $$$$ than Talent!!..I Despise ppl who own Awesome Looking Vehicles ..But Never Ever Get Their Hands Dirty!!...No DIY HERE!!
What that guy said and how is it solid axle swapped that truck came from the factory with a solid front axle lolol
Tyler Mccorkle lmao I thought that same thing myself, they were solid axle in this body style the whole time, and the next body style until 85
Yah agree. I just bought a half year 1985 Toyota 4x4 DIESEL! (Original 2.2l) This past weekend. Solid front axle. They started the IFS front end half way through 85 and first full year was 86.
Pete Johnson yup 85 was first year fuel injection on the 22R, last year for carb, you could get them either way. same with the straight axle .
@@kennethlaw5216 you know of anywhere that deals with first gen Toyota 4cyl type L 2.2l diesel motors.
Did they swapped the shackles front to rear?
This truck came with a solid front axle. It wasn't sas swapped
WOW!!!! ANOTHER LEVEL!!! 😱😱😱
Thanks for sharing. Super cool.
LOVE IT AND ESPECIALLY THE HEIGHT
I had an '82 long bed Toy, just stock put that little girl in 4 low and swear that girl would climb trees, may sound unpatriotic but old toy pick up just can't be beat, well mods make them EVEN better!!
Naturally they play music when the truck is running sp we can't here how sweet that 4.3 sounds.
I know man I'm so sorry. Wasn't thinking of the motorheads!!
I've never heard a "sweet sounding" 4.3 lol
The video came up again, that thing looks so sick on 38s, I’m gona go up a size when my 35s wear out, but they are so dang lite, a set of good tires takes forever to wear out
Gorgeous truck!!!!!
Interior is nice
Yeah they did a good job on it - If you can climb into it that is! ;)
I bet you could fit plenty of shopping carts on that long bed.
Potent little runts, very much in demand, huge aftermarket for mods too, but... Costs accordingly.
Omg!!!! Beautiful truck! 😻
Heartbeat of Tokyo!!!
The music needs to go.
Amazing truck !
I remember when these came out. The commercials were awesome, but seeing them driving around town was increadable. I had an 87'. Sold when i had a couple kids....stupid. i kick myself all the time
Very clean but needs c/o's to lower ride height to get cog down. Plus it will ride much better I'm sure.
I know that area!! Half of my family grew up in Cashmere. I'd love to stop and drool at that truck lol.... J.
When you restored it before you bought it from the owner, was the color burgundy red peeling around the edges with yellow original paint exposed.
All it needs is running bars that escalate down to be able to get in it easily
So you SAS’d a solid axle? Nice…
It’s like Pimp my ride…
Heard you like SAS so we SAS’d your SAS and put some SAS’s on em.
Love the truck!
I didn't even see the suspension move when he climbed in a 4:46.
It would have been nice to hear the truck run. Nice build though.
How can you straight axle swap something that had it to start with doesn't make sense unless you put in a new one
that rearend doesnt articulate at all. probably would do better with some leaves pulled out front and rear and put it on 36's
I thought the same. Needs longer springs all round. Also he didn't have any idea about the inverted rear shocks..... would ride pretty rough with all them leafs
Hey man I was wondering. What's the tyre's dimension?
Wow beautiful truck good job
30,000$ here in Washington just wild
That thing is dope I have 31s on my d21 lol 😂
I'm surprised this truck has the 4.3/700R auto instead of the 22R/5 speed.
Wow, out of sight ! I used to have a 1983, 3 1/2" suspension, 3" body lift, 36" ground hawgs, that thing would go anywhere, sure miss it.
Nice really nice truck are considering to sale the truck I’ll be really interested in buying it from you
Please send us an Email if you'd like to talk about it

Beautiful truck
Tight my first truck was a 1980 short bed with 38's and a 305 chevy with turbo 350 with longfields and lockers I beat the shit out of it.
He doesn’t have the 22r motor, which means he doesn’t have a real Toyota
Hahaha. 22r the classic rev-limiter champ
how much did this resto cost?
Someone knows what’s this color name?
good job sir
Awesome truck!!!.
The music right before he starts the engine is bad etiquette! Truck is badass!
We learned our lesson!! *Slaps wrist*!!
Beautiful man , luv me an OLD SCHOOL HILUX
Nice truck bro
This truck is for sale right now. Wish I had 35k for it!
good nice 👍😍😍
man i was really liking the truck right up till he explain how he went completely ricer with the ridiculously lame red stitching on the interior! who did it for you? pimp my ride?
Hahaha
I like the tires but there to big.
He thought so too. Went ahead & lowered it with smaller tires!
Wonderful
what is the color
Not sure but I can ask if it's a custom color.
😍😍 so much badass 🤙🏽 Great walk-around!
Play music at the end needs to go I didn’t even get the actually here with the truck sounded like and I would love to Have seen it remote start
Is it for sell?
Not yet :)
Well when you’re ready to sell iton my very interested and we can talk numbers when you’re ready thank you clean truck go by the way good job on it.
Wish i had one😞
That suspension looks stiff as hell!
Music ruined this video
*zooms in on dirty battery for dramatic effect.
I am quiero uno para traerlo aquí a Honduras
I missed what trans is behind that 4.3? GM 4L60E?
said it had a 700r4. which is what became a 4l60
Doesn't know his SAS from a hole in the ground
Хорош 👍🤟😎
you sir have one sexy ass truck! god damnnnnn!
جميل جدا جدا روعة
It's a bit low
That's a nice taco...😎🤙✊💯
Its look like Toyota STOUT
That’s not restored. Restored would look factory. This is custom. It’s not even a Toyota anymore with that gm vortec in it
flashback5391 so almost every hotrod, street rod ever has a gm small block in them, they still are the same brand just with a different motor.
Well it’s a Toyota. Not a gm hot rod. Restored would look original.

Looks down as he says longbed..
Cough cough.
I can't understand a darn thing this guy is saying. Where does a lay person go for translation?
Sorry its difficult to hear the words!
@@NitroGear I can hear the words, I'm just too stupid to know what they mean.
@@huder67 ohhh okay I'm with you. Yes it can be like a different language 😂
✍👍👊👌👌
Too tall for its own good. Sweet rig though.
Yeah I believe he's planning on running smaller lift & tire combo.
A truck with no flex and never to be used pointless in my opinion but hey it’s your truck
Mine's better Off Road.....it flexes! There is NO articulation in this set-up, it rides like those Flatbiller Lifted F-350's the Wannabees drive!
Blasphemous. But nice looking.
Pickup***
Way to take a truck and untastefully resto mod it.
Badass tacoma
It’s not a Tacoma 🙃
Hilux
Really beautiful Ridgeline
He barely fits in there.
It's definitely a tight cab
Grizz your creepy!
