This looks great but it would be nice to know what soaps can be used besides the Linda soap.Do you have any suggestions?

This was amazing. I discovered scales in most of my orchids this morning, found you after some research and immediately got to work!! I am keeping my plants in water for the time being before putting them back into substrate. Some of my orchids are over 10 years old, and I’ve actually grown another orchid plant from one of these ones!! I love them, and would be devastated to lose them.
I see you have a video on making or his aquatic plants! When I grew my budding new plant, this is what I did! So, I’m now considering not using substrate and doing this with all of them. Will watch your video to learn more. Thank you so much for sharing!

This is a SUPERB video for instructions on saving your orchids and having them bloom again….!! I assume that any castile soap can be used in place of the “Linda” brand which appears to be a castile-type soap….I will be passing his on to my orchid loving friends!!

I'm going thru ur Playlist and I am learning a lot. I would love to see more videos on other diseases that may affect orchids. For example: root rot, crown rot, my personal bane, spidermites.
I don't know if u have done these videos but I have not seen them as yet. U have an extensive collection that I enjoy going thru. I am learning about things I was never interested in before.💖

The Linda soap has ‘Limonene’ …lemon and perfume. So, you could probably use some lemon juice in here with the grated lemon skin. I use the garlic.

Well this is fantastic! I don't mind the occasional use of things like insecticidal soap but if you have a lot of plants, it's expensive. Is there any extra care to be taken for the underside of the leaves as far as olive oil is concerned? It doesn't clog up the stomata?

Stumbled into this video after I noticed scale on an orchid this morning, similarly covered to the one you trimmed nearing the end of the video.
I haven't tried making this solution yet, but I've separated the several plants I found with scale, and removed using the dull side of a knife, by scraping off. Then, using a wet towel, I removed any scale' debris.
I also sprayed watered down Neem oil on my plants, have you found that to prove effective at preventing?
I think scale infiltrated my plants via a recently gifted plant from a friend, that i didn't isolate initially. If I see more scale developing I'll try this solution with soapy water + garlic + oil!
    Thanks for the informative video!

is it possible to use pure Olive oil soap with the garlic instead, or is the addition of the oil itself imperative?

Thanks for the information in the video, however it would have been reall helpful to list the names of the 2 soaps you used and the links to where you can purchase them. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just discovered the sap on one leaf and I had already some yellowish spots on one plant and now two. I didn't know about scale, I don't see any big scales like yours in my plants but I just found some dark pieces that looks like flax seeds. could they be these insects?😧

Can I use Castile soap or Nellie's laundry powder instead of Linda soap? If not, I'll order some asap to save my orchid!

Hi I hope it's not too late to ask a question beings the video is a year old. So I was curious if this would disturb the buds and blooms that are just taking place? Also, is the sticky drops due to the scales?? I was curious what those sticky drops were and they are on bother top and bottom of leaves. Also, do these bugs make webs? I noticed there are small webs all over my phalaenopsis orchid! Thank you for this awesome video! ☺️

    • @bmell1252
      @bmell1252 2 роки тому

I don’t think they make webs. I’ve never seen it. They don’t need to catch their food, since they eat the sap from the plants they’re on. I don’t know what the sticky drops are or what they could be. 🤷‍♀️
Also, Neem Oil is basically a Cure-All; insecticide, miticide, & fungicide. Ready to use, in the spray bottle it comes in.
