    Some behind the scenes on our development for intergrating the TurboLamik TCU to work with the 1HD-FTE. Its taken a bit longer than antcipated but we have a really nice solution to getting an 8 speed behind one of these now.

    Awesome news, have been waiting patiently for news on the 1HD conversion. Picked up a BMW 8HP70X and Shifter 6 months ago in preparation for 80 Series 8HP swap. Happy to hear your focus to DIY install for this kit. Keep up the good work. Edit: Also looking forward to some fit up B roll on the next one for engine / flex plate and transfer adapters. Was able find a FTE flex plate assembly for nix.

    Doing gods work! No need for crawler gears, changing diff ratios or oem converter lockup kits with an 8HP. Heaps of value in the conversion. This will be phenomenal behind a 2UZ but with manual ECUs pretty much non existent would likely need to go aftermarket. keep up the good work!

    Fantastic!! 👌
    The 1hd-fte has a huge torque surge from 1700-2400rpm. It would be amazing to drive with the 8speed.
    Next kit for you guys is to do the controller and Integration for the 78/79 series with the 1hd-fte. Shouldn’t be too difficult, more simple ecu and only available as a manual OEM.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому +2

      It would. Maybe…. We haven’t tested both. Oem application they only run the heat exchanger. This engine makes so little heat on the highway, the air to air may still be too much for the coolant heat exchanger anyway.

    What’s a good normal operating temp for the transmission? Also what are the negative effects of cold oil?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому +3

      Around 70-80 is a great temp to really lean or abuse a 8hp. For normal use anything under 110 is fine.
      Cold oil or variation in temp leads to inconsistent clutch bite, which makes it harder for the controller to maintain a smooth feel.

    Hi mate, Happy New Year from sunny Scotland. I own both a N54 335i and a 2003 5.3 Silverado and would like 8HP70/75 one of them. Now I know it would work in the E92, but it's the truck im wondering about. It's currently got a big cam fitted, which requires a 2800rpm converter. How would this work with the 8HP? Any info would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому +1

      The converter in the 8hp is electronically assisted. You will be able to spin even the diesel converters to over 3500rpm on the transbrake for launches. For normal driving you will want the converter to lock up alot earlier than 2800rpm. The brillaint thing about the turbo lamik is being able to program all the conditions and points for converter lock up. In short, it wont be a problem.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому

      There’s nothing on the market for that transfer side….. yet.
      If you don’t need low range,
      I’d be tempted to use the 6hp28 x5 tracer case. The turbo lamik can actually control that case and it will bolt to the 8hp70. And drops to the left side.

    @matthewclements4932 5 місяців тому +1

    Have you only tried the setup for only a g turbo ecu controller? A lot have a unichip (myself included) would this kit work with a unichip? Just wondering how you go with shifting, can you make the ecu drop power for the shift. Or does the 8 speed not need the throttle drop on gear changes to protect the gearbox?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому +2

      We need to know what the engine is doing. So the unichip or GTurbo makes no difference. We connect to sensors on the motor itself.
      Torque reduction during shifts isn’t needed under 900nm. There is no way to do it effectively with these ecus or unichips. They react too slow. So if you are over that 900nm an upgraded box is recommended. However we have VDJs on the road abusing stock used transmissions at 1200nm with no issues yet.

    • @matthewclements4932

      Thx for the reply, mine only has 690 nm at the wheels so should be good then. Would the sensors be the same from 2001-2006 as I think 2003 they did a facelift and changed a few things.

      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому +1

      That is the sort of thing we will find out over time. Good chance they are the same. But until its done and confirmed specific we dont know. • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately it got sold. I have sold a lot of cars to pay for the madness. However it’s now owned by someone that works at 8speed.
      Currently tuned with in an inch of its life. Fast as for a 320d.

    The 8 speed conversion would be ace for earlier VE LS cars. I remember how bad the shifts were and it wasn't really fixed till VF-VFII. Having 8 speed and throttle blip downshift in VEs V8 would completely change those cars.

      Scott at Capa performance has done one and is putting together a kit. He’s managed to get it working well with even gear display on the original ve cluster.

      @ZeroTo60Tube that's incredible. Hopefully the words get out. The Commodore has such rubbish transmission hence why mine has been all manual. The Falcon ZF absolutely blows the GM offering away.

      I’ve been told to keep mine under 800nm for transmission life and reliability, maybe that is the main reason, auto would certainly be good for the whole driveline in terms of shock loading

    • @ZeroTo60Tube

      This power would melt the stock auto and manual would be on borrowed time.
      It’s a heap of money, but makes the car so much better to drive, better on fuel and just better thing to own.
      I used to think the manual was better than a 8speed until I front one.

      I have an LC200 and can't wait untill an 8speed conversion is available for it. I fucking hate, with all of my body, the shit show that is the LC200 auto box. It fucks around trying to find the correct gear for no reason, it never locks up, yes you can get a lockup kit, but still, only shitty situations where it will actually lock.
      I would gladly pay the money to fuck it off and have something that will let me get power to the ground, save fuel and be bullet proof.
      Each to their own. Don't whinge about how other people spend their own money you clown.

      I've got a manual version and it's a slouch with this box . Even with 250wkw and 1000nm I'm lucky to crack 0-100 in 7.5 seconds. With an 8 speed auto however 🎉

      Not a waste of money putting a 8 speed in it will increase the towing capacity acceleration less strain on drive line components etc. 25k upgrade is a lot less than 150k for a truck that wil tow

    Why use an auto at all? Manual is far simpler and better, Is it just that people don't know how to drive?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому

      The manuals are fairly weak in these, slow to use and just not and smooth or exciting to drive as a modern auto. Its hard to get your head around what you can do with these 8hp. You can make them shift like racing transmission, or smooth like a rolls royce.

    • @chippyjohn1
      @chippyjohn1 5 місяців тому

      @ZeroTo60Tube it's a 4wd though, not a race car. It's designed for off road crawling basically in the same gear. Doesn't make sense to me. Best of luck.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому

      Ahhh fair enough, yeah i guess these are not used as off road crawlers mainly. People use them to travel australia in. Journeys doing thousands of klms, where the smooth nice auto makes a lot of sense. Helps with towing, the hills and keeping the engine in its power band. Mind you the 8 gear ratios and torque converter make the slow off road stuff much easier as well. You should have a go in one when you can. @@chippyjohn1

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, i mean i get that the numbers sound astronomical. But when you have this sort of power available uphill over taking when towing is much safer. Much easier to maintain momentum going up hill in soft sand. You dont need it, but it makes life easier. And when you do want to have a play, it makes it a lot more exciting.
