Just a heads up for us fishing peasants. Today I went to Bass Pro Shops and they now have a jerkbait called the XPS Staredown 100+1. They got a color called Exo Shad. Its Elegy bone and its a copy cat of the Megabass vision 110 jr. They also had the table rock version. I got the last exo in stock. It only cost me $8.99 compared to $20 or more for the Megabass version! I cant wait to give it a go!

I started airbrushing lures a few months ago for a hobby, and right now I am working on jerk baits. I am pretty new at this, and I am having a great time creating my own colors and patterns. I don't know if my lures will be any better than the others, but I surely have some of the prettiest lures in town. I suggest that every fisherman should learn how to do it just because it's so much fun.

I always called that like a 'ghost shad'. I have several H2o Express versions of that jerkbait that are so chewed up from all the fish I've caught with them. And you're absolutely right, spots really go after that color. That and chrome are my two best jerkbait colors.

I went out on a guided smallie trip to an inland lake in Northern Michigan about 8 years ago. Was a cold, rainy, early May day. We slayed them on the Elegy Bone jerkbait. This particular bait has a special place in my memories. And you're right. It's no longer a secret. Everyone is using it now and every brand carries them.

If I could only choose one from MegaBass it would be Table Rock SP. ESPECIALLY on a silent lure when the water is cold!
Number 2 is without question Modena Bone!!!!
The entire orange bottom with the yellow top and sides with the clear section in the center is amazing!!!
Any combination of gold and purple or gold and blue is extremely effective.
    Tight lines and Tang ya’ll!!!

It's interesting that spotted bass chase each other. I've only caught 2 and the 1st one was almost 4 lbs and it's twin was trying to take my worm from it's mouth. And a few days ago in another lake I caught a smaller 1, maybe a pound, and it had 5 more trying to get my fluke from it's mouth. 1 was probably 5 lbs, nice fish. They must be way more aggressive than largemouth. I'm a saltwater guy so spotted bass are new to me. They're fighters.

Spots are a blast to catch, they fight harder than a LM but tend to be smaller fish- and have smaller mouths. A lot of guys in the south, where I live, call them southern small mouth because they act more like sm- they like current, they're really aggressive and active, hunt in numbers, and seem to like smaller, more compact presentations. They make up 99% of what I catch because they dominate the unmanaged freshwater habitats around me- all the rivers, creeks, etc. are full of them. The lakes have more lm because they stock them and manage their numbers but if a habitat is left to develop naturally, they seem to take over and you'll catch 10 to every 1 lm you land. I think it's because they do a better job of avoiding the gar, bowfin, sauger, and most importantly- the catfish. We have huge cats that eat 1-2 pound bass without even opening their mouth all the way.

I'm stuck on shore, and I usually fish behind job sites I'm working on, I remodel and mostly paint. I'm from Florida and LMB never got my attention because of the saltwater. But spotted bass are fun. I also fish Lake Norman behind a job site. All the big lakes seem to have Spots. There are SMB in Lake James but I heard the spots are running them out. I want to catch a smallie too, that's new to me. But...

Matt, have you ever fished a body of water for smallmouth and they will not touch chartreuse? I fish a reservoir with about 15ft visibility and anytime I've ever threw something chartreuse or even a hint of chartreuse the smallmouth won't touch it. Then I throw green pumpkin or something else and it's fish after fish. I tried painting a ned head chartreuse and it had a green pumpkin trd and nothing will touch it. Switch back to a black or green pumpkin head and wham bite after bite. Same goes for drop shot baits, Ned's, tubes, jerkbaits, swimbaits. Only seems to be that reservoir though. What do you think? Let's say you grab 5 mavrik 110's for a tournament and you need them to suspend. They are supposed to from the box. What happens if all 5 float and the 12 ya got hanging at home also float when ya check em. But expecting it to suspend but they float kinda sucks. How do you go about this. Contact rapala they apologize and replace them. What do the pros do in this situation on water and for the problem. Cuz 14.99 to not work 15 times is kinda sucky

Do NOT use suspending...for 1, u will lose them most times..2, ohio river fish are usually much too shallow...only time u could possibly use 1, is along rocky banks, barges, bridge pilings...even then, suspending probably go a little too deep..if u fish the creeks, a floating jerkbait would be a way better option

Wow. I did not know that chartreuse really appears almost white under water. Never really paid attention I guess. And chartreuse is one color that I actually don't have confidence in. Just for some reason idk why I never liked it. I do have chartreuse baits that I use under certain conditions but never liked the color. I'm gonna apply it more and see what happens. I actually went yesterday and bought some chartreuse and white skirts and thought why did I do that. This must have something to do with that.

@@Nobadcasts I think for me it's because it's such a bright color and I fish a lot of pretty clear water because I'm in Ohio so it's pretty clear here it's not like it was when I lived in Tennessee and all the water has a green tint up here it's either crystal clear or lill off-colored but still pretty dang clear. 2ft at minimum usually.
