TAS speed runs show off exploitable glitches and/or mechanics and how fast a stage can truly be completed while abusing glitches and/or mechanics to its maximum potential. Plus they're fun to watch.
@TheSonicGod i totally agree, the music was AWESOME, the levels were unique, the time-travel was different but it was "atmosphere" that made it so good. The thing that annoyed me about the game is that the bosses were too easy. i felt there wasn't enough challenges.
13:53 Metal Sonic: I WILL WIN YOU, SONIC! Sonic: Nope. *Runs off* 14:03 Sonic: What the? They closed me! Better go back. 14:15 Sonic: WHAT THE? It doesn't close! *Comes Metal and got destroyed by nothing* Sonic: O_O. Eggman: Meh, i'm outta here. Amy: Thanks, Sonic! Sonic: Hang on and all aboard!
Time stats! (Total times added for each zone and overall total game time.) Palmtree Panic - 0'55"06 Collision Chaos - 0'41"24 Tidal Tempest - 1'17"93 Quartz Quadrant - 1'27"49 Wacky Workbench - 1'52"33 Stardust Speedway - 1'37"39 Metallic Madness - 1'49"88 Total Time - 9'41"32
in sonic CD, you can time travel, and to do this you have to activate signs saying Past or future on them by running past them. after u activate them, u have to maintain fast speed to travel in time, and the stars coming out of sonic is the games way of telling you your maintaining speed to travel through time
@mentalrectangle It certainly did have the best level artwork, but the only parts that felt unfinished to me were the physics (which were wonky in places) and the final boss.
No, as it stated at the beginning, this is a TOOL ASSISTED RECORDING. He uses slowdown, savestates, rewinds, etc to pull off pixel perfect runs without the limits of human ability to stand in the way.
While I certainly believe that this is some of the best music Sonic had to offer, I was not 100% convinced that this was the best Sonic game, although, I do feel it is quite awesome. The music in the beginning was also heard in Sonic Adventure during special events.
Nice. And..I'm one of the weird people who likes *both* soundtracks--though I marginally like 'Sonic Boom' better than 'Toot Toot Sonic Warrior', partly because that was the one I heard first, and partly because it sounds, for lack of a better term, more 'serious'. I'd love to see a 'megamix' that lets you not just select between the two versions, but set them for each level. :-)
Woah! Thanks for uploading that gread vid... brings back memories. But why is the music so different from the one I know? Although it's unusual, it still fits the game, doesn't it?
Fusion 3.64 and my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I also decided to use the American game file (Sega CD Boot instead of MegaCD) but replace the music with the EUR/JAP music instead. It was still doing the same thing with the American anyways. The BIOS I am using is "Sega CD Model 2 V2.00W". The Japanese one is "Mega CD Model 1 V1.01" and the EUR is "Mega CD Model 1 V1.00"
.iso files can't store audio tracks, only data, so either you'll need to use an emulator that supports separate .mp3 tracks, or you'll need to burn the .iso and the .mp3s as separate audio tracks onto a new disc. Alternatively, you could try to find a download in .bin + .cue format (instead of .iso and .mp3 format), as that does store the audio files... but since that's larger than storing the audio as separate .mp3 files, it's a bit less common to find.
No, that's the thing. I have that up and running, and everything is running as it should. My only problem is that there's a 3 second delay in almost all the music. Most noticeable when I pick up Power Sneakers or Invincibility. It's actually extremely irritating.
I'm pretty sure this is canon since Sonic would do it this fast and for the fact that in both Generations and Sonic 4 it shows Stardust Speedway's bad future.
If you want to complete the game 100%, you have to go into the past to destroy a machine to create a good future by running past the signs, you can go back in time
Hey the US/EU ver isnt that bad. Some the music is relaxing like Tidal Tempest and Palmtree Panic (but I think the level songs of the Past remained the same?). And the Boss theme is scary; in this version, I really love the boss theme of the last level. All in All, Sonic CD, whichever version, has some great music!
Naw, then he will have you learn punctuation. Apropos speedway z3, looks legit. Well there is obviously a hidden pathway, but he uses those elsewhere too. And some trigger area dance, looks like.
You mean on the sonic gems collection? Then yes, the sonic CD megadrive has EU/JPN soundtrack and the US has their own soundtrack. Also seriously the US soundtrack isn't THAT bad, just give it a chance really, i hated the US soundtrack as well but i gave it a chance and i now like it a lot, sure the JP soundtrack sounds cheerful and cool but the US also sounds really good too!
I love how at the end of Stardust Speedway 1, he just stands there, waiting for the camera, then casually walks away...
03:55 After skipping Robotnik like a boss, he finishes the Zone moonwalking like a boss.
Really fast! This isn't my favorite game of Sonic, but i have to admit that played this way is wonderful to see!
This is a great video! :-)
And awesome, how played under 17:30.
My reaction with the Collision Chaos 1 Speed.
O_O
Hell, he went so fast in CC2 that he broke the damn sign!
I love TAS videos for some reason
sonic was doing the moonwalk at the end of the 2 zone act 3
wow. you are really really good at this!
I'm shocked and appalled to see that wacky workbench can be finished in under 30 seconds
12:15 - 12:23 - Camera: HEY, WAIT UP! SLOW DOWN!!
Sonic: Catch me if you can!!
TAS speed runs show off exploitable glitches and/or mechanics and how fast a stage can truly be completed while abusing glitches and/or mechanics to its maximum potential. Plus they're fun to watch.
omg the running animation is fantastic
@TheSonicGod i totally agree, the music was AWESOME, the levels were unique, the time-travel was different but it was "atmosphere" that made it so good. The thing that annoyed me about the game is that the bosses were too easy. i felt there wasn't enough challenges.

amy: HELP ME!
sonic: ok i'll be here in 17 and a half minutes
amy: ...
Truly the fastest I've seen Sonic go....

The metal sonic fight was absolutely hilarious. XDDDD
14:20 LEL METAL SONIC DIED BY RUNNING INTO NOTHING
Or, he malfunctioned.
@mentalrectangle It certainly did have the best level artwork, but the only parts that felt unfinished to me were the physics (which were wonky in places) and the final boss.
@EnsignN7 That is taken from a song called "Work that sucker to death".
Wow, this game has some AWESOME music! =D
This is my favorite Sonic game of all time!!! and the music is awsome
12:17 New meaning to "Stardust Speedway"
this is one of the best sonic games ever made!
*seisure* soooooo fast you beat this game at sonic speed XD
Awesome Gaming Dude. Keep it on.
That was some intense work at Stardust Speedway.
Theres only one thing I have to say about this Tool Assisted Run.
"YES!"
It's possible. yes
No, as it stated at the beginning, this is a TOOL ASSISTED RECORDING. He uses slowdown, savestates, rewinds, etc to pull off pixel perfect runs without the limits of human ability to stand in the way.
In essence, maybe. But they are called "Time Stones" in this game, having different origin and use than the Chaos Emeralds.
"Work that sucker to d-"
[finishes game in 17:28]
"D'oh..."
While I certainly believe that this is some of the best music Sonic had to offer, I was not 100% convinced that this was the best Sonic game, although, I do feel it is quite awesome.
The music in the beginning was also heard in Sonic Adventure during special events.
Its a sample taken from an old song, its "work that sucker to death"
This vid really shows how ownage the Figure 8 peelout was.
PEELOUT FOR NEXT SONIC GAME!
Nice. And..I'm one of the weird people who likes *both* soundtracks--though I marginally like 'Sonic Boom' better than 'Toot Toot Sonic Warrior', partly because that was the one I heard first, and partly because it sounds, for lack of a better term, more 'serious'. Woah! Thanks for uploading that gread vid... brings back memories. But why is the music so different from the one I know? Although it's unusual, it still fits the game, doesn't it?
The European version had the same music as the Japanese version too, however the European version of Sonic Gems Collection has the US soundtrack.
In the boss theme, are they saying, "Work that magic thang!"?
.iso files can't store audio tracks, only data, so either you'll need to use an emulator that supports separate .mp3 tracks, or you'll need to burn the .iso and the .mp3s as separate audio tracks onto a new disc. It refers to the soundtrack that was only in that version.
We have officially found the God of Speed-Runs people (well sonic speedruns.)
*bows*
Lokk clsely @ 2:03. Why is there a life and an S box there? I thought those were removed.
0:29-0:32, OK, THAT just broke so many physics, i'm not even BELIEVING it broke so many physics.....
Now that's entertainment!
No, that's the thing. I have that up and running, and everything is running as it should. My only problem is that there's a 3 second delay in almost all the music. Most noticeable when I pick up Power Sneakers or Invincibility. It's actually extremely irritating.
I love the credit theme!!!
WHY WAS I NOT ABLE TO ENJOY THIS AWESOME MUSIC?
On Collision Chaos Zone Act 2, he has gone so fast that he broke the sign post.
has GOTTA GO FAST gone so far?
There's only one sad thing about this video, and that's that I don't get to listen to the awesome music of this game for very long.
the true sonic speed
I'm pretty sure this is canon since Sonic would do it this fast and for the fact that in both Generations and Sonic 4 it shows Stardust Speedway's bad future.
Aqua Nioh no, good ending is canon. In generations eggman undid all of sonics wins which is why it shows bad future.
If you want to complete the game 100%, you have to go into the past to destroy a machine to create a good future
by running past the signs, you can go back in time
The "geneis" isn't the only one with an emulator that has a TAS feature.
@likelylike
Would rather listen to "90's commercial music" or that demonic soundtrack from the U.S. version?
I told you that if you try these it should run without delay, it's just that it will ALSO have better audio quality!
My eyes hurt after watching the whole video. It sure was blazing fast!
This is absolutely insane! On a side note, are you the same rogueyoshi I see in Marvel tournaments?
Yes, but bin+cue will have better audio quality!
@666nightwish666 Wrong music LOL. This is the original Japanese version.
lol i love the stage end music in this game XD
I can see him doing a Good Future run in about half an hour. He's THAT fast
Me: Oh great Nitsuja...teach me how to be as brilliant as you...
Nitsuja: Okay, first things first, we need to exorcize those thumbs...
Becaues its japanese versin, us/eu version has different music
@TheKeatonWarrior Japanese/European version have a different soundtrack than the US version.
@mentalrectangle
It's more like abusing the gameplay for the glitches to occur. When playing the game normally you can barely find glitches.
Japan and Europe share the same soundtrack not North America and Europe.
*Tilts head* didn't remember the music being this good on the Sonic Collection Gems version
@thecakeofdestiny Super Sonic can still drown "dood."
Disgaea is an old/shitty rpg. Why reference it?
you know what im confuse about the japanese version of this game is that their are english voices in the soundtracks like the credits :l
No, I think about a TAS with all Time Stones or a good ending.
"When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit."
Awesome, but we could really use a good future TAS as well...
Best sonic game in my opinion.
I like the music that plays when you beat a level in the American version better.
That last boss is a doozy. When I see even a speed runner struggle with it I don't feel so bad.
I guess it is true you can skip the boss on Collison Chaos by doing that jump trick.
Collision Choas Zone 3, WTF did he do? I blinked and he passed it.
Naw, then he will have you learn punctuation. Apropos speedway z3, looks legit. Well there is obviously a hidden pathway, but he uses those elsewhere too. And some trigger area dance, looks like.
@666nightwish666 The music kicked ass, especially for the good and bad futures. Maybe it will grow on you.
man i wished i have this game it has very good music and an awesome gameplay
You mean on the sonic gems collection? Then yes, the sonic CD megadrive has EU/JPN soundtrack and the US has their own soundtrack. Also seriously the US soundtrack isn't THAT bad, just give it a chance really, i hated the US soundtrack as well but i gave it a chance and i now like it a lot, sure the JP soundtrack sounds cheerful and cool but the US also sounds really good too!
What just happened in Collision Chaos????
Without a doubt, CD.
He could still do well enough on PSN/XBLA, I mean, even without the tools, he's still pretty good.
Sonic CD felt like a very unfinished game, but I insist it had the best level artwork of any Sonic game.
Sonic: HURRY UP CAMERA! YOUR RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE!
@GreenGiantShit Still, he could probably still own the leaderboards for many levels.
@classicrockrockz I'd love to see Sonic deal with the F.L.U.D.D.
@pat4luigi13 the music is the only difference. there's different music tracks for some of the stages.
7:25 AMAZING.
The US version DOES have a final boss theme. Just listen carefully.
@mentalrectangle i gotta say it has also the best level music of the sonic games
Sonic saved like a billion flowers.
HE'S THE MAN >:0
Wassup Rogue, you should try a TAS of the Sonic Rush Games, you know, just to see how it would come out. I think you would do good. What you think?
Say anyone remember that sonic cartoon where Sonic was zipping around through time? Bet that was to promote this game,
It's the bubbles, but the sprites are not properly loaded. =P
