- McLaren’s Massive Upgrades And Friday Miami GP Analysis
After a very interesting qualifying we can see that McLaren's upgrades are working incredibly again! Lando had pace for p1 but Max Verstappen ended up taking it again with a huge mistake. McLaren have pretty much brought a b spec car to this weekends Miami GP and there is plenty to go over!

Bro you are killing it. You've found a great content niche and are giving us actual information and insight, instead of a lot the fluff.
❤️❤️
This is about what I wanted to say, completely agree with you mate
Seeing Hulkenberg consistently getting into Q3 lately in a Haas has been great! I love seeing that - good for him.
He made a great come back to F1, he's even going to be one of the audi drivers for next season
Agreed
It haas been great seeing that
@@8tonystark8 I see what you did there! 😂
Overall very very positive for Mclaren. They paid the price of a sprint weekend with only 40 minutes of practice. Lando on Mclaren report on their website said they overheated the soft, which is understandable as they had so few test time. Tomorrow will be interesting as they went from one of the slowest car in straigh line, to 9ne of the fastest.
It's McLaren.
Agreed mclaren is in a good spot
They were 5th in the speed traps which is very impressive considering they were one of the slowest in a straight line before this
@@F1Unchainedwhen you see their expectation here, with lando sating it was all about damage limitation, and they are that strong. When you also see their history here, it is damn impressive.
Sprint race for Lando ruined by Hamilton 😢
Stella said these upgrades would help with the wear and overheating the tyres so I think lando probably just misjudged how much he had to heat the softs in the out lap, if he had 3 full practice sessions this wouldn’t have happened
Also Lando’s SQ2 time is just under 2 tenths faster than Max’s SQ3 time we might actually be in for a fight at the front soon or at least I hope we are
Yeah, I guess that's the risk you're taking when you bring big upgrades on a sprint weekend, they didn't have enough time to test the tyre warm up strategy in fp1. But at least now they know how to better tackle it for the actual quali. All in all, upgrades look like they're working, and they're not maximising it yet, there is definitely more pace to unlock with those upgrades once they tweak the setup for optimisation.
exactly and with the mclaren comparison on the track map lando was smashing max so for me the gp win is very much on the cards this weekend
I was very excited to see your analysis! Great video again. I was surprised to see the huge drop off on pace during qualifying on the McLarens. And wow! Charles pulling that lap out for p2 after 5 minutes of fp1, really impressive. And Daniel honestly was very surprising. Hoping for a battle in the front (an f1 fan can hope), but I can already see Max winning by 13 seconds in the sprint again. Can’t wait too see how McLaren’s race pace has possibly improved and where they will be tomorrow in the sprint and race qualifying. Also veryyy excited for Imola and especially Ferrari’s upgrade. Anyways thank you for the great technical analysis of the upgrades, really helps explain it to fans like me! :)
Thank you for watching 😁❤️ and always supporting! I can’t wait to see what imola brings considering it’s already been a lot of stuff this year
coming back here to try and process the McLaren absolute dominance we just witnessed. If the rest of the season is as close as this, we’re about to be in for a good time.
Your upload consistency is insane! Keep up the great work.
Thank you my friend 😁❤️
please do continue the Friday analysis videos!
was a pleasant surprise here in Singapore to wake up to another high quality video going over the SQ session and diving even deeper into upgrades
amazing work, ur the best unchained!
0 - 10 you got 1000 excelent video . hug from Brazil my brother .
Thank you brotha 😁❤️
Love the channel! Been waiting for this to drop since I saw the post!
😁🔥
i really enjoy this style of video. you broke down the fundamental components of the McLaren upgrade in a way that a layman can understand. as a math wiz i enjoyed the simple statistics too.
😁❤️❤️
Great video bro I haven’t seen this data on any other channel. Good job.
Dude this is amazing! Your channel has become an absolute staple of my F1 weekends! Seriously looking forward to your channel becoming a mainstay in the F1 sphere!! Much love from Australia mate!
This format is great, keep it up!
Mate you are the few ones doing analysis that I stop to watch and pay attention, the details about upgrade and predictions for the race always on point (as possible) …
Great job and congrats for the channel and hope it grows more and more ! Also a big congrats for not use click bait on the titles or talk about things that for real no one knows and do it only after is sure about it .
He is trying to be another Sam Collins but his constant assumption that every idea came from the red bull car and doing that comparison lets him down. I dont know what qualifications he has but his analysis is very superficial. You need to watch Sam Colins or Scarbs who really know their stuff.
Very good content, keep posting throughout the weekend!
10:20 Love this Format!!! You gotta keep this, this is an Amazing addition to the channel.
Top glaze
@@aspect359 Fellas, is it glazing to support a UA-camr you’ve followed since they were a small channel
Excellent video and analysis. Thank you.
That McLaren looks like it has insane pace - personally i dont really care about sprint position - they can use it as a test session to learn about the package as far as Im concerned. Race pace on full tanks will be the real test, but early signs, my goodness it is looking good
Amazing analysis as always! Is that FOM data? Did you do the graphics yourself? Love the DRS delta, Sky Sports do some cool stuff but that graphic is better than anything I’ve seen in terms of analytics of key data. Love it! Keep up the good work!
Best f1 channel on youtube
Loving your analysis
Love your videos man. Keep it up!
Love the top speed comparisons, thanks mate
Ofcourse 😁
These are great videos mate, keep em coming! 👍
😁❤️❤️
Love the format. Keep it up
😁❤️❤️
Always enjoy the technical info and personality in these videos! They're officially part of race week for me.
On a side note I've been digging Ruth on the broadcast for f1tv viewers. Shes brought some unique insights so far.
Nice work, thanks.
😁❤️
Great video as always 👍
Where do you get all of the data from? I’d love to be able to research a lot of this myself but no idea where to start
❤ another great video. Love you Bud……
Love ya my guy 😁❤️
very good analysis , and my bet is still on! you will get upto 100k subs at the end of 2024 . Im feeling proud to see you improve . big fan
Your analysis of Top speeds, with and without DRS was highly informative
😁❤️
Great points that are interesting , keep them up..
Great video. Thank you.
Thank you my friend 😁❤️
It worked!
Great comments, keep up the good work 😀
😁❤️❤️
Another great video 👌
Best time of the day is when you drop a new video 🙌🏽🙌🏽
❤️❤️
The analysis was very good, keep it up, love seeing the top speed data. The high down force Merc wing is giving them a good sector 1 then falling apart.
Thank you my friend 😁❤️
As a fan of F1 since watching Senna at McLaren I really like your channel alot.. Great job
Thankyou mate...you are my favourite
😁❤️ thank youuu
NEW F1UNCHAINED VIDEO LETS GOOOOOOO
Watch out next race when Piastri has the full upgrades.
Zak and lando said they overheated the tyres in sector 1, so explains the lack of grip and 8’tneths down. Didn’t do their outlap correctly
Wonder what Lando could’ve done if their tyres got into the optimal temperatures. He was drifting on those softs.
100% pole position. He drove the fastest lap of the session in sq2
Super dissapointing to go p9, its something we have said since last season when the mclaren got good. He dont delicer when it counts
Pole was on the table
@@christofferrsnes9508It wasn't his fault, they didn't test tyre warmup strategy in fp1, they were busy testing the upgrades. Norris said on post radio, "We all know why that happened" or something like that, which suggest they weren't sure what to do with tyre warm up so they took a gamble. Either way, better it happened yesterday, now they can learn from it and do better for actual quali.
With how hot the track is, do you think a C1 C2 C3 mix would've made more sense than the C2 C3 C4 that was decided by the teams?
Good presentation. Pity we have to have to endure another 'Sprint race' side show where all drivers did the minimum needed to get the session done.
When last did all F1 drivers opt for a 1 lap shoot out, in Q3, where the weather was not a factor??
You should make a UA-cam Short on the pictures of the new Mercedes front wing.
Might have too
This is why this format is interesting...
Considering how fast they were on the mediums they will undoubtedly do well in both the race and the sprint very exciting indeed
Agreed
Just to play devil’s advocate; what if McLaren fell behind in tyre wear to achieve that speed? What if the faster laptimes relative to the field means they eat their tyres faster? I guess we won’t know until tomorrow, but that’s what makes the tech battle so fun.
@@watersnortmoment3734 well that didnt happen
Massive. Got them into Q2 congrats back markers.
Mclaren is fast, but you need the drivers to get the most out of it! This shows how Max is completely on a different plain of existance. Altho I hope Norris or Piastri gonna challenge him soon
Ehh I wouldn't put it like that, the drivers are doing the work, but as Daniel demonstrated in the past the mclaren is a very particular car that is hard to drive.
They need to fix that on their car first!
Its because mclaren didnt have much soft tire running on lando, so they didnt knew tyres would overheat. Max didnt do an exceptional job himself, just 1 tenths ahead of a much slower ferrari and a guy who didnt have any practice.
Bro what? Daniel hasnt driven at Macleren since reg changed.
that same Max that bottle it at last years Miami and only qualified 9th? Mclaren have great drivers, their time will come - and it "might" just not be as far away as we all thought
@Jason,
Ricciardo had 1 season in the reg Change Mclaren in 2022.
Oscar came in last year. Yeah i know Oscar doesn’t look like a driver fresh in his second season.
I also just realised that Danny didn't use softs at all in FP1. Which makes his efforts even more amazing!
The video is superb as always ❤👌🏻. As for Alonso i believe he isn't pushing that hard and not interested in the sprint😮. Let's see what Sunday will pay off.
😁❤️ I don’t blame him. The FIA has been ridiculous
Now we're talking!
1 thing I was wondering : Doesn't the air going under the sidepods create lift since it it essentially the shape of an airplane wing in some way ?
Mr. Wick I have a Question:can you change your front and rear wing after the sprint.
You can but it would be risky. Williams might do it
What McLaren did is great. Can't wait to see first win for Lando
Would be nice
Too bad we couldn't see Lando's actual race pace due to that dnf but damn, it looks like Charles was atleast just below 0.2s a lap slower than Max.
I agree Lando has the q3 pressure issue but I do think the car over all was very positive. people are crying out for competition and Mclaren are the team to stick the major upgrades. I am very interested to see how the weekend goes as a whole and not just the sprint qualy.
For McLaren, they were the best on the Mediums. The race will be run with Mediums. Could be interesting. Ricciardo could have the bump from the floor, or a simple confidence boost. Still early.
McLaren had tire temp issues for the first sector on softs so both Lando and Oscar were sliding all over the place
I told people start of the season Mclaren only launched half their car, same as last year. I actually was hopeful a McLaren might win this weekend bc of the updates they were bringing and after seeing the pace it looks quite plausible.
My main concern is Lando is not used to fighting for actual wins and little mistakes and inexperience here and there can actually hand the win to Max, even if the Mclaren is the fastest car this weekend. To me it would prove a lot for Lando as well if they can pull it off this weekend.
Its frustratting to see teams botch these opportunities and basically let RB off the hook. Even Max was shocked he took sprint pole, almost disappointed bc he had a bad lap. Teams have to take advantage of such opportunities and for the sprint, ok fine. But Mclaren has made a lot of crucial errors this season costing them huge positions. They need to be on it here or ill be disappointed. This is Lando's best chance for that first win.
Love to know what those crucial errors are since the start of the season? The only one I can remember is Lando put on a stategy that only works if there is a safety car in Saudi
Cost him 3 places.
@@bjs7442 honestly I can't off the top of my head remember. The season already a boring blur to me, but I do remember them missing out a potential 2nd, maybe better based on the data for McLaren one race where ferrari pitted earlier than them and mclaren did this garbage strategy of covering off Russell I think who was way behind. Bad strategy there. There was also another race after that where they fucked up the pit strat again. Theyve done some hesd scratchers and honestly Lando lucked out today a bit. Piastri was actually the driver more on it this weekend but he didnt have the full upgrade package.
Oh and then theres the thing of them trying to qualify for pole on mediums in Q3. I get it, they were trying to replicate sprint qualy session 2 but it's a bad look. Softs are just quicker. It shows they're just doing things with no real confidence or understanding of their car. Seemed like an superstitious rather than cold and calculated thing to do. I dont like that kind if wishy washy strategy from a top team, its bad. Also the radio calls to Lando coaching him thru how to drive a lap, beyond what we see any other team do, esp with their main driver. It's just weird. Has the sort of self consciousness of Ferrari 2022 to me. They havent been the front running team so it doesnt seem as costly or get called out like Ferrari did, but now that their car looks a contender for the odd race weekend itll be a different story. I think theyll botch a race win from what I'm seeing, arguably already did. I wouldn't be shocked to it. Look out for it, bc they cant always get lucky. Thsts my point though is their results seem to sort of cover up the mistakes they seem to routinely make. But it's there to spot pretty clearly if you've been paying attention.
My prediction was right as I actually thought Lando could win here. But he won in a way less satisfying than I expected. The narrative will be cheering Lando but he lucked into that as Piastri was the one that actually impressed most in the race. Anyway, awesome race weekend.
@@MM-qm9ld First Oscar was very lucky at the start as Perez dive bomb disrupted the Ferraris and he then baulked Lando returning onto the track leaving a beautiful clear track for Oscar who took full advantage. Oscar could not make any headway at catching Max but he was matching him. Lando was the fastest driver on the track after lap 5 . He quickly caught Perez. Then when Perez pitted he quickly caught Sainz doing fastest lap after fastest lap. The issue for Lando was the car was not capable of overtaking easily so they decided to one stop him and he continued to drive faster than Max even when Max had changed onto new Hards. Yes the safety car was an important factor and played into Landos hands . However most race wins have an element of how the dice fall. After the restart Lando simply drove away from Max. Not a foot wrong. He demonstrated why he is now regarded as one of the for or five elite drivers. Lando would have been at least second without the safety car because of the lead he had built up. Some commentators said he could still have won. It was a shame for Oscar but he wasnt as fast as Lando but made mistakes in wheel to wheel combat with Carlos and suffered the consequences. Lando in Sochi drove brilliantly but had bad luck. Yesterday he drove as a future chamion. It was controlled, error free and very fast.
Man those soft tires really were not good. Makes me feel like the C3 might have needed to be the soft in this one.
the wing is not the side impact structur.
Interesting to see how this stroll Norris driver swap goes wouldn't be surprised if stroll gets first win since Ricciardo definitely a bit more pace and skill in the McLaren will help
do you think ricciardo can hang on for points in the sprint or do you think their slow straight line speed will come to haunt them?
He might get p8
6:40 what do you mean based off of consistency for Stroll??
He drove lap times up and down in delta but managed to just beat Fernando in sq3.
Fernando actually drove faster in sq2 also😂
I meant like he’s having a consistent start to the weekend
1.28.8/1.28.3/1.28.3 he has such bad consistency it’s craaaazy
Shame McLaren couldnt have used the mediums for sq3 as Norris SQ2 time was the fastest of all 3 sessions.
EVEN FLOW
If McLaren have the race pace in the sprint we'll see them hunting down RB despite bad grid position....unless RB have their car setup for race pace and they disappear in the horizon once again....nothing that has never happened before...
McLaren made a mistake with tyre warm up. Both drivers were affected.
Mate what an upgrade for McLaren. They look like they have closed the gap to Redbull
If you watch landos pov you can tell the tires werent working
How the hell were mercedes so quick in sector 1 when its mostly high-speed fast changing corners, normally they are way off with that kind of layout. Sector 2 though they were losing 6 tenths to red bull.
They suffer more in low speeds actually
They had a higher downforce wing
Wrong setup. Too stiff
What do you have in the fridge 😅
to all the cars behind K Mag, good luck trying to overtake him
7:50 Yup, painful being a Mercedes fan rn.
irrespective weather lando chokes or not once lando gets his first win then im sure he win plenty more
Norris lost 8 tenths to Max in sector 1. Considering he was quicker than Max in sector 1 in previous 2 sessions, there was definitely some mistake that led to this. If not he would have been on pole
Your videos are good but I do have suggestions to make them even better. Try and doing research. You forgot upgrades on the McLaren and yes there are more with pictures.
And more importantly Lando didn't Choke. Lando always blames himself but Zak Brown and Andrea Seidl have both said there was nothing Lando could have done, the team gave him the wrong data to warm up the tires. The fault lays on the team and Lando Killed sector 2 and especially 3 after the tires got in the right window. But sector 1 ruined it for him. If you want his onboard you'd be actually impressed with Lando that he was able to keep it on track and continue to push
i don't like how the upgrades aren't on both mclaren cars. Zak said the full upgrade is 2 tenths quicker than the partially upgraded car.
thats not unusual for teams to do, they want to be sure the upgrades actually work, oscar will get full upgrades at the next race, dont worry :)
And they also get to collect valuable data on the upgrades too
you need 1 car to act as the control to see if the upgrades are actually effective
Disappointed by Mercedes expected more from the upgrades
another wonderful video my friend, i have lost interest in the sport. i keep up with whats happening through your channel now. much love and have a wonderful evening
Thank you my friend for keeping up with me that means a lot 😁❤️
Looks like better version of w14
Agreed
Did merc actually bring a new floor to this race? I feel like they were nowhere in SQ
They did
Charles was lucky not to bin t in hard in FP1 and ruin Friday completely.
The Mercs will struggle for points in a short race starting so low but there could be a bit of chaos to come ..
because he is skilled
Imagine it's 2026. Hamilton and Vettel have moved to Ferrari. Lando takes Hamilton's spot at Merc, who ends up having a leg up on the 2026 regs. Hamilton and Vettel tangle regularly on the opening lap of most races, and then... Lando Norris, 2026 WDC!!! 😁
Hey, I can dream too.
The McLarens do not like those softs in the heat
Yeah it’s been a problem for them
So all that consultantion with Lance paid off , stop hating on him casuals not only can he drive he knows these cars inside out like Newey said ' i was lost i called lance " " a week later the RB 21 was born " Newey said if lance didn't get at least some credit he would walk away from RB
Lando did again a bad Quali and Mercedes 😞
🙋🏼♀
Bro see this, newey left and just today mclaren was faster now for sure within 3-4 races they will fully compete with max, and next season will be as tight as ever, max era is just on the brink, since newey leave they don't improve much they may just stay what they are but improving like before to dominate will be a tough task
I genuinely hope you’re joking?! Otherwise it would mean you have very little knowledge about F1. Newey leaving has absolutely no impact on this season and very little impact on next season. Most importantly Red Bull will still bring upgrades this season. So i can assure you, they won’t compete with Red Bull in the coming races
Yeah I started watching f1 4 months ago, but still bro McLaren was 2tenths faster in q2 than max q3, doesnt this means they will now continue this pace and maybe become consistent with this pace?@@Lek9812
He still got out qualify by his teammate who didn't receive the uprades 😂. Whats up with Lando?
Oscar has upgrades. Just not all. McLaren said they overheated the softs on the outlap with lando which fucked them in 1st sector as lando nearly lost it 3-4 times in that sector
@@adamheddle430 ooh I didn't know Oscar got some of the upgrades to. But Lando bottling it so much every time is bad. I was think "yea this weekend McLaren will beat Redbull. The weekend is not over yet there is still a chance but it looks more like another RB 1+2.
@@EJ0107 McLaren messed up with warmup and the temps and I assume it’s partly to do with upgrades. Oscar has half of ugprades so he didn’t suffer with warmup as much as lando. But McLaren will have looked over it and hopefully be better today. They have pace.
@@adamheddle430 Maybe Lando will surprise us later today.
Mercedes PU strikes again. So they pushed softs too hard. Yeah of course. I am pretty sure that was the case not the other teams turning up their engines at the last session.
You think if Richardo goes to red bull he will win Max impossible
When giving an analysis of a performance a reputable analyst should be careful the words they use as fans will pick up on it. You said Lando was guilty of "choking." The definition when used in a sporting environment is " to fail to do something at a time when it is urgent, usually because you suddenly lose confidence" Lando didnt lose confidence . In his own words he went for it.Thats not lack of confidence. Just the opposite. He simply made an error. You dont say that about other drivers when they make mistakes such as Charles.. Stop perpetuating myths.
If you wanted an example that Lando never chokes Miami 2024. A master class driving away form Max for 20 laps.
I really hate the forced tyre quali format. Why are they forcing them to use softs when they aren't usable..?
Also, what idiot thought it was a good idea to do 2 sprint weekends in a row in countries on the opposite side of the globe.
I don't know what the FIA is doing and if it has something to do with Liberty Media, but they are slowly crumbling what they've build up with all the nonsense.
Mercedes brought Downgrade to outdate their car
McLaren’s fastest car???? I can’t. 😂😂😂💀
I mean if u watched they definitely were
@@313jay23 when they finish 5-6 tomorrow. Let’s revisit this. 😂😂😂😂
They had the fastest lap of the sessions
@@F1Unchained my god. Ver was 700 tenths up on first two sectors, then let off the gas. We can both say this or that…but I can guarantee you tomorrow they’re not finishing in top4 in sprint or top 3 in qualy. Not a chance.
