- Grammy Award winning musician David Abbruzzese revisits the song Alone by Pearl Jam. Originally recorded in the early 1990's, the song appears with Dave Krusen on drums on the Pearl Jam Lost Dogs album released in 2003. It appears with Dave Abbruzzese on drums on the B-side to the Go single released with the Vs album.
Dave, you play with such a purposeful groove and pure conviction. The music world is blessed by your playing 🙏
I’ve never seen a negative comment about his drumming on any video he’s on. It’s nothing but positivity & I completely agree. He’s a solid groove machine
It blows my mind an makes me happy! Thank you!
Can’t tell you how many times I listened to this song when I was younger and it first came out. I think Dave Abbruzzese is the best drummer of all time - his drumming on Vs blew me away. It was so tight and funky, and the use of his splashes were just pure ear candy to me. The amount of rimes I just wished I had seen him in the studio during the Vs era…. And now this video is released… Amazing. Dave if you ever read this, you’re brilliant. I still listen to PJ, and still think Vs had the best drumming out of all the albums. I have my drum kit set up similarly to yours, although its not DW.. Always wanted a DW kit, but I have a Pearl Pro export kit, as my dad bought it for me when I was 14, as a present for getting distinction at grade 8 on the trumpet. I am 44 now, and am a commodities derivatives broker, but I still love playing the drums, and looking at videos. I’ve never commented on a video before, but honestly you’re like my drumming idol. I hope you are doing well, and hope you release more videos!
I could not agree more
Agree the same for me
Yep, I’m 38 though
Hey! Thank you for taking the time to share your kind words! To inspire is the greatest reward! I'm happy to know that what I do has touched people. It means a lot to me.
I have posted up a lot of videos to my freeassrecords UA-cam channel. I will continue!
All the best to you. Keep swinging for the fences! D.
@@FreeAssRecords Thank you so much Dave, from one of the OG GRO street team members.
Dave's phrasing in this song is a masterclass in composition. The groove is immaculate, but when it gets to the choppy parts, his flow is so smooth that you forget there are so many drop-offs and empty bars. Very aesthetic fills, especially the floor tom roll at the end of the solo just before the last chorus. It's amazing, how this one take is identical to the studio version, with all of the idiosyncratic accents and flourishes.
Thank you! 👊😁
It's played with perfection, just like the recording. Agreed, a masterclass in perfect phrasing for such an inherently choppy song.
Good luck Matt Cameron playing like this.
IMO, MC is just better suited for a band like Soundgarden. His odd time signatures fit that band perfectly.
@@A320Driverwell said. Anyway, I don’t think the initial comment had some mean intention behind it, it just reflects how much so many of us miss Dave in PJ. Nothing against Matt.
@@victorb.1356totally agree with you.
LOL
Hajauauahahha
We love your drumming style, Dave. Thank you for sharing these videos. We appreciate it more than you know. You influenced millions. ❤️🔥
They are missing you MORE than you know.. more than they even care to admit...
you drove the band man..
greetings from Mexico
#totalInspiration
Firing Dave was the worst thing they've ever done.
Hey Dave, always so expressive yet still in the pocket. And I think it's also more difficult with these slow tempos!! Those sticks are loaded!!! Arms like hammers!!!
Great groove as always.
I am loving these videos man you were the energy behind Pearl Jam that is long gone
This is without a doubt true
God damn!!!!!!! This was my jam and workout song brother!!!!!!! Top 5 song from PJ!!!! You’re the man brother!!!!
One of my top 3 PJ tracks. I perfectly remember listening to it for the first time when I got home with the Go single. It blew my mind out, and this drumming was a big part of it. Thank you very much, Dave!!
Dave, you are the best drummer ever and I love Alone, do more PJ songs! I would like to see Glorified G next time, my favorite song from VS!! Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you! Please send my love to Brazil! All the friends that I have from Brazil are great people. I hope to visit your wonder-filled country some day!
@@FreeAssRecords so you should visit and play drums here some day!
@@gianninims I absolutely will!
You always were the man, Dave. Well done as always.
Dave this is my favorite Pearl Jam drummer playing my favorite Pearl Jam song. Made my day. Keep it up brother
From the first time I watched PJ's MTV Unplugged, I fell in love with Dave's cymbal mastery. Tight hi-hats, perfect splash accents, and that thrashing china. Simply amazing.
The first time I fall in love with drumming was after watching RVM in SNL with Dave behind the kit. How Dave hit those cymbals and that powerful kick drum was incredible.
Waiting for a RVM rendition !
By far my favourite Pearl jam song. By far my favourite Pearl jam drummer.
Dave , what a powerhouse, amazing drummer I could listen to this guy all day 👍
I LOVE !!! I HOPED FOR THIS !!! This is what I miss from those guys .. YOU !!
Not much, just 2 hours ago I've watched alone record 92 and I said it would be great if Dave recorded a new one. Thanks a lot for this!
I was not expecting you to revisit this one… what an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to! Thankyou, Dave!
You are such a pure talent, Dave. I could watch you drumming over and over. Thank you for your content - to impress us and to heal us ♥I hope you know, your fans are still with you.
Thank you, Niki. I appreciate you.
Dave always has nice little surprises in store for the listener 🎉
Ive always loved your cymbal work. The accents are literally perfect within the groove of the song. Joey Jordison was another drummer who used lots of percussive cymbals even down to marching toms; and I miss it dearly. Again; I along with many love seeing your content!! Thank you for being so active on UA-cam
Absolute brilliance. Playing is unreal but the drums and cymbals sound great too. What a treat.
Perfection! The effortlessness in his playing shows the level of skill. Great stuff!
Hi Dave! Thanks for doing these because you know your fans like them!
Dave´s on Fire ...
I miss your cigarette, it was incredible how you smoked and played at the same time without being distracted and your eyes getting irritated by the smoke. For me you will always be the best drummer of the grunge era.
THNS THNX THNX THNX...no one like you!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Absolutely phenomenal you're documenting these classic drum performances in 2023, and just as tight as ever! Best drumming YT channel, cheers sir!
EXCELLENT!
Thank you so much for these, once again.
Hope we get to see Elderly Woman behi........... onde day featured here!!
cheers!!
This is one of my all time favorites. Man, you make the click groove.
Dave thank you for these revisits! They really are a great value to the PJ family and they showcase your awesomeness on the drums!
Dave’s work in the early 90’s was as good as any drummer in the history of Rock. If Bonzo came back from the dead and found himself in a 93 PJ show he’d have found an equal. A monster on the throne. Dave is simply the best of a generation.
Dave you need to tour, dude. We need it live.
Dave, thanks for posting this. This is magical...
My drum idol, greetings from Colombia Dave! 🇨🇴 thanks for your inspirational drum legacy. Wish you all the best!!
Thanks Dave … and keep these gems coming please.
You rock Dave. I’d love to see you revisit wma. I had so much fun playing along to that one as a kid. And all you’re other stuff of course.
Love these videos Dave. Your playing still blows me away.
Awesome performance Dave 😎🤘
Thanks, Jax! I'm enjoying watching you do what you do, too! Keep it up, brother!
This is one of the songs of my life and its drums are absolutely perfect. ¡Thanks, Dave! 🙌💪👊
Hi Dave,
I made a "tribute" video for you on UA-cam in 2006 and you thanked me for it at the time. I was very happy to be able to give back in some way for what your art has done in my life. I've always played guitar (due to lack of space at home), but drums have always been the instrument that I've been most fascinated by since I was a kid. You and Danny Carey from TOOL are my favorite drummers of all time. I would really love it if you would do a reaction or review of Danny's work (his live performance of Pneuma on the Vic Firth channel, for example) or even play one of his songs. Another drummer who reminds me a lot of you when you were young is Aric Improta. You rock man!
Dave - you inspire me more than you will probably ever know. We LOVE these videos where you play some of the older but great songs. Please keep 'em coming! Personally, I'd love your version of Even Flow, Alive, and State of Love and Trust. The Unplugged videos are great, but they don't always focus on you and some of us less skilled drummers need to try to see what you are doing so we can *attempt* to practice it and get a little better - even if it's just a hobby for us.
Dave, so glad I got to you see play with PJ in 1994. I'd love to hear your rendition of some of their catalogue after you left the band.
Dave, you OWN that kit...love it. Please do NOT stop!!!!!
I won’t! I can’t, 👊☺️
I always like your version of this song Dave 🎵 ❤️ 👌. You made it your own. Just like Evenflow. You took them to the level they needed to go. Bravo for you setvice to Pearl Jam. GOAT.👏👏👏👏👏😁👊💯💯💯🍺🍻🍺🍺🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💯💯💯
How good is that snare!!! So much feel in your playing Dave, love it!!
This is an absolute thing of beauty
If I could give this 10 hearts instead of just one thumbs up I Would!! Your PJ drum compositions I can listen all the way through without losing any interest. A Real Testament to the Musical Greatness you created with PJ. LOVE Listening to these Man, Absolutely Love It!! --Jason ✌🏻&❤
This is gold, just keep 'em coming.
the great albums Pearl Jam has not done without you, the great albums we ´ve missed...damn it
One of my favorites, first time hearing your version blew my mind!!! Always wondered why the band decided to re-record a b-side? Glad you did though!
Awesome as always Dave! 🤘🏻
One of my favorite tracks of yours. Amazed me when I first heard it back when it was released and still does! Your pocket with all those embellishments on top of it 🤘🤘
Dave! Love it bro! About to get behind my drums all day! Keep Rockin' hard! DC
Just pure awesomeness here. Love your groove that gave Vs such a unique vibe. Would be amazing to hear you belting out WMA and Rats again.
Thanks Dave to share your drumming. You got something in your play that shines. A spark that all serious listeners or drummers can easily notice. I also need to mention your elegant and powerful sticking style. You are a great inspiration man!!!
Thank you!
Dave was the soul and energy of PJ.
awesome!
Thank you Dave ! You have no idea what mean to us see you well and sharing your wonderful and power playing. Your talent and unparalleled composition and playingwill never be forgotten. Love you ! ❤❤👏🏻👏🏻🥰
Thank you! More to come!!
This guy was by far the best.
You still got it man, definetly
Thanks
My Dave Story: I had a room mate in the military who was a drummer. We were both massive PJ and Dave fans. We were crushed when we learned that Dave wasn't in the band any longer. We had later heard something about a new Dave project called Green Romance Orchestra and we were really wanting to find out how to get the new album. This was pre-internet and we had to call around until we ultimately found his agent/manager?. We called asking for information about the new record and they said "hold on a moment" and actually put Dave on the line. We lost our f'ing minds. We got to talk with Dave for a few minutes and he even agreed to mail us a copy of his new GRO record. We enjoyed GRO and we talked about that moment for years and will always treasure the experience. A few minutes of your day made a lifelong magical memory for two fans. As a technical music guy, I've immensely enjoyed your drumming over the years. Thanks for being awesome.
Ha! Good times!
Thank you for sharing that moment in time. All the best to ya! D.
Wow...great story!
Great drumming like always! 🤟🤟🤟
You rule Dave! 🤘🤘
Dave absolutely insane drumming! You're a huge inspiration for me and my play style!! Video suggestion.. please play W.M.A. Always wanted to see it up close and uncut because it's soo awesome! Thank youuuu!
DAVE..KEEP EM COMIN BROTHER
Dave! Subbed!
Always loved your feel and your style on the drums, you still sound fantastic! Always such a great vibe riding along on your groove
Dave, I missed that hi hat chime with one hand 0:46 wonderful. And this 0:26 wow
You play effortlessly but powerful. You play loose but every beat has purpose. Keep it coming Dave! You're the GOAT! State of love and trust, whipping, leash, glorified g please!
Oh, that ghosts notes on hi hats... it's so Dave!
I need desperately the Rearviewmirror drum track. Can't get tired of watching Dave grooving on the kit. Greetings from Chile
Dissident next? it would be befitting of you. AWESOME Dave
Wow! These videos are a dream come true. Thank you. Always trying to be like you, what sticks do you use?
increible, drum master
Favorite 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Monster.
That foot !!! When you have it, you have it.
BADASS
Love your version Dave. You have made that song your own! I love it 😎🤘🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💯💯💯
This shit is awesome!! I know you wrote Last Exit, it's one of my favorite songs of all time I would love to see that along with Whipping and of course the greatest song of all time 'Leash' keep doing these!!
Freaking masterpiece... Thank you
After many years of drumming, and becoming more self aware of my style and influences I realized how much I got from you, my set up, my fills, wow.. haha thanks for the inspiration sr.
Awesome! Thank YOU
Hi, Dave. At risk of sounding a bit corny, I'd like to share a quick story. :)
When I started playing drums back in 2000-2001. I was only aware of Pearl Jam as a band, but nothing more (I was totally into HC punk back then and grunge wasn't really my thing). Due to actively taking drum lessons from a very skilled and versatile drummer, I was introduced to other genres like jazz, latin, funk, etc. so I started to try to incorporate some of that into my playing - dynamics, ghost notes, syncopation, polyrhytmic stuff and so on. But because of my lack of experience or ideas, I struggled a lot to somehow find a place for so much "embellishments" in the relatively simple music (which also did not sit well at all with my band mates and I was criticized a lot for "overplaying" and stuff). And all I wanted was to find a way to make punk/metal sound more groovy, but I simply couldn't do it.
And then I heard "Even Flow" unplugged playing randomly on a radio...I think I can't even begin to describe describe how I felt listening to it. Aside from the fact that I didn't know what band (let alone drummer) I was hearing, it was *exactly* how I wanted the drums to sound in a relatively heavy tune! Your style was just perfect in my book. There was literally nothing I would add or subtract from how you played it (even today). It was just - ideal, optimal.
What I'm trying to say here is that without you and your music I wouldn't be what I am today, musically, and I wanted you to know that. :)🍺 Without a doubt, you are on my personal Mt. Rushmore of drumming. 🍻🍻
God bless
Sounds killer ! Lovin the snare
Neat! I love playing guitar using these videos as a drum track. Appreciated the Breath and Animal ones, but this one immediately made me grab my guitar and play along (I remember those 9/8 and 7/8 bars during the intro and choruses used to be a little tricky for me when I first started to learn this song, but I played and listened to this so much that I know it by heart) . The version on the Go single is my favorite version honestly, but I love each studio and live version of it. Hard to imagine, Glorified G, Blood, Rats, WMA, Leash, Last Exit, Not for you, Satan's bed.. Just too many songs to name them all that are carved in my mind and that you contributed to make the beast of songs they are. Those two PJ albums wouldn't be what they are (masterpieces) without you. Thanks for the music, brother.
So Powerfull Dave 💪🏼💯🥁🔥
Those single foot triplets are just 🔥
Dave doing what he knows best. Pearl Jam should listen to this, which i guess they don't do anymore... which is sad! Love you Matt Cameron still
🙌🔥🔥!!! Legend!!
Legit sounds like John Bonham ... Perhaps my favorite PJ song of all time along with Blood.
Dig it. Would love to see more of this content from you.
Peep my little UA-cam channel! I'll keep 'em coming, brother! 👊😁
That groove is unmistakeable. Also, as someone once said in another thread, it always looks like the sticks are just a little bit longer when Dave plays.
Hey Dave, PJ's has released new visualizers for VS songs today
So good…
