You can exercise this tip when you are looking at where your car is facing when you are air rolling. This means that you'll know what direction to move your joystick and when. @@Will-ws2bu thats not the same thing at all. Yes, knowing where the car is facing is important for boosting, but thanovic doesnt discuss that the input changes for when the car top faces you vs when the bottom of the car faces you. Movement vs boosting
@SolarBear how are you supposed to know how you should move your joystick to go left or right while in midair because whenever I try to move the back end of my car it just spins out of control
I have to say, ive been watching all the youtube RL teachers for several years now. For me, you now stand at the top of that list as my go to teacher. It was you that got me to actually switch to using air roll R and air roll L buttons and drastically increasing my sensitivity. It revolutionized my game. Congratulations on 100k subs bro, keep up the good work :)
Honestly I was just playing training for 2hrs and it all makes sense with how these UA-camrs do it thank you so much I'll be practicing everyday.. I'm slowly maintaining my airolls and the muscle memory is building up I really appreciate it
You really clicked after a few hours? I'm at hour 10ish right now (over a week or so) and I'm not an inch farther than I was when I started. I guess you got it or you dont lol
What really helped me is adjusting my car every time it was facing forward so every time it makes a full spin I would make a small adjustment. That was literally the entire difference between me making huge mistakes and me now being able to do lethamyrs rings in full rotation. I really hope someone sees this and it helps them!
@@ewanforbes2622 no, every time the car rotates and is facing forward (upward) you make a small adjustment and if you keep practicing that way sooner or later you’ll understand the concept practice on and open field 👌
@@Morleyx99 I don't know how to say this because you seem to be trying to help others, but this concept is restrictive. You can make adjustments at every single degree of rotation and you are isolating a certain area of rotation for the sake of making it easier... meaning you are restricting your control, to make progressing easier. That's not an issue, that's cool. The issue is, you haven't disclosed to the beginners this comment is targeted towards, the restriction you are advising them to use. This is not a principle of air roll, this is a restriction of it, if you want to teach others you should make it clear that you are actually telling them to limit their potential to make it easier to learn.
after 3 hours in freeplay, i went into leth's rings and was able to do the first level 8 times in 30 minutes, spinning the entire time these drills helped me drastically and although i haven't accomplished much, i am slowly getting better thank you so so much, i love your tutorials :)
Does anyone else struggle because if you air roll and put stick down, it makes you go one way, but because your constantly spinning if you put the stick down you go every direction.
Learning to air roll is literally just beating your head against the wall until either you finally break through or you stop trying. It's a serious uphill struggle for most people who learn it.
I can't even begin to express how many times and how much your videos have helped me become a better player. I've been playing Rocket League since June and yesterday I finally hit Diamond in 3v3's. Congrats on 100k! Keep up the great work, your content is amazing and I would recommend it to any new rl player. Cheers!
@@Bigp857 the thing is, everybody recommends to keep doing air rolls as you play, and you'll get used to it naturally. The 2 things that upped my game the most are far-post rotations and far-post defending. Also .. adapting to your 2 teammates (yeah .. I know), 90% of the teammates I get are ball chasers. So what do I do? I just stand back at my side of the field, while they hustle and ballchase, waiting for the right opportunity to go in
@@Schnoezy I can relate fully. Started playing end of April... Got to d2 within 3 months really with no mechanics lol. Started to really focus on my mechanics and challenging myself to take control of the game instead of following my teammates. Dropped back down to p2 lol but I'm back in d2 now and I'm usually the driving force of offense in my games and it's way more fun that way. (Just have to still rely on the 2 u leave in defense now that ur not there) bottom line always challenge yourself and take charge it's the only way to really really rank up and still have alot of fun
Awesome tutorial. One helpful tip that works for me is to do all those drills you mention but set the game speed at slow mo. This will help you correct your tilt easier and work up your muscle memory. Its also helpful when you learn dribbling.
I downloaded rocket league about 6 months ago and am hard stuck champ. I've looked at so many air roll tutorials that do not help or say "just air roll right and hold up" thank you for this banger vid. I was starting to get the hang of air rolling but I could feel a few more things click as I watched the vid/ tabbed out and did the practice.
Hey Thano! Do you maybe still remember the name ''nova_zsr''? I used to be on your streams daily, until school started and my pc kinda broke down... Your vids got me back into rocket league and i wanna thank you for that. It's nice to see how much you have improved over the months i haven't been watching you. Keep on going my man!
I still can’t understand how you’re suppose to change your flight direction. Unless that’s the part you have to figure out yourself. I always wind up rotating downward and crashing.
if you use air roll left hold right on the left stick if you air roll right hold left on the left stick. if you do the opposite it screws your car up. it’s more complicated than that but it’s the basic tip that helped me learn it a lot.
I suggest to watch spookluke's final ari roll video and the missing piece video. He goes over what to do exactly in the basic side of things and form there it will help give u an understanding on what to do in different situations as u play the game.
2 going on 3 months of practice and I’m getting some muscle memory down bro. Thanks so much for your help. At first I wanted to give up because of how hard it was but after some time I started to get the hang of it. I really appreciate the tutorials homie!
Not sure if you will see this because your comment is about a year ago but I am struggling currently as well. I don’t know my time frame on how long I been practicing air rolling and then perfecting air roll left as well but I try to train at least 20mins a day before or when I hop on. I feel just a tiny bit comfortable with regular air roll but these practices he does seems like it’ll work in the end. It’s frustrating because I want to get better and progress through competitive but I feel I don’t have the car control in the air to do so or blocking in the air. Since your comment is over a year old and if you by chance reply could you tell me if you are getting better if not really good ?. I like to know other people’s progression and opinions.
I use Lb - air roll left rb - air roll + powerslide B - boost A - jump Rt - throttle Lt - brake/reverse Feels comfortable to use and id played over 1000 hours before switching to these and managed to do so quite quickly
I’ve spent hours trying to fly around the map and doing rings maps and others and my brain cannot seem to figure out car control lol I get in a lot of awkward situations or mess up shots because I lose control in moments and can’t figure out how to avoid them or correct them. :/ this game is frustrating I feel like I’m forever stuck high diamond/low champ
same, especialy with short term memory loss, and having to retrain to learn that u forgot, used to be d3/c1 for long while until long term loss a year ago, slowly ranking up but currently stuck in plat3
I don't have enough money right now but I will soon. I entered the code T100K and I got 50% OFF but I'm 2$ off. Will I still have 50% if I keep the page open?
actually this really helped me. when you were talking about tornado spins and how theyre used all the time i realized i was doing air dribbles wrong and as soon as i went in game and tried it i was immediately more consistent and it felt way smoother. thanks!
Pillars is criminally underrated. Here’s why; I spent the last couple of days frustrated by attempting to learn air roll using the rings maps because everyone recommends them. I got to the point of raging and giving up numerous times because it just felt like a wall that I couldn’t see a way over. I came to this video in my search for an answer, and the moment Thanovic mentioned pillars a light-bulb went off in my head. In exhibition matches, you can set a bunch of different mutators (unlimited boost, time etc.) Why is this important? Well, there’s only a mutator for fking SLOW-MO setting. That setting reduces the speed of everything in the game, including how fast your car spins when holding air roll. I played like this for AN HOUR in Pillars and I can already pull off figure 8’s around the map. Sure, they aren’t fast or perfectly controlled, and I still take a dive occasionally because I made an input mistake or I accidentally crashed into a wall, the ceiling or the floor, but I’m buzzing because this has given me tangible results within a really short period of time. Im planning on training like this until it starts to feel comfortable, then i’ll take off slow mo to get used to using it at normal speed, and eventually give rings another shot. Hope this tip helps out anyone else who feels stuck :).
what is that?i know how to roll.... I play in keyboard + mouse...I use right button to jump and roll, two right button clicks makes it to roll....is it?
This actually really helped me I start like three weeks ago and I was so bad at aerials but I did just a little bit of this training and it was crazy how good it got me
I'm almost at GC now a and literally never learnt directional air roll controls. What the shows is that it's definitely not 100% necessary to become decent at the game... HOWEVER, I'm now at a point where I basically HAVE to learn it, and I 100% wish that I could talk to my Gold self and tell him to spend the time learning it then, instead of having to do it now when people are so much more likely to punish mistakes. Fantastic video, such a great resource for tutorials, cheers man.
OMG thank u Thanovic I have always wanted to be able to air roll bc it is so cool watching UA-camrs air roll like u so I have always wanted to air roll. Now I can do it nearly constantly after 1 and a half hours. Practice makes perfect thank u
I remember when I used to do this drills every day and now air rolling is second nature. Don't give up guys. Practice, put in the hours and after some time you'll see the pattern.
It’s nice seeing someone actually be like “yeah keep at it guys”. The amount of people being like nah tried for 2 hours and can’t do it what do I do… hahaha
For me, honestly, the big thing that helped me was seeing what you pretty much had your buttons mapped to. I kept thinking to myself which button to map to air roll and the boost.
I've been playing RL since the game came out and then took a very very long break. Coming back to the now, I feel like a new player. I would highly recommend this video for learning purposes to anyone because it definitely helped me get back to being who I once was a long time ago 👍
I havent seen a single youtuber say this advice but hopefully it helps. When air rolling I think knowing when to boost and not to boost is gonna help you significantly to understand the movements of your car and help you control your car in the air more
this is actually a really good guide to know where you should start practicing and what to do next after mastering the thing that you are doing right now... ThankYou for making this I know this is gonna help me alot....
I started rocket league off with that control scheme. which a friend reccomended to me, and I immediately found using a dedicated air roll button far more comfortable than using a Bumper to change what my Stick does. Guess it's similar to how I feel about Tap Jump in Smash?
Question : I have the same full air roll / ar left and ar right bindings as you and have improved my air control substantially because of it. What I notice squishy does and so do you is you click lock cam on very quickly and right before final contact with the ball for maximum precision...my lock cam button is triangle , thus I do not understand how it is pressed so immediately at that time and without screwing up your air roll control while using L1 or square or circle. What is your lock cam button ? Is it L3 or R3? When I attempt to do it with triangle button I inadvertently move my car more in the air so it is not something I do but I do want to do it.
This is EXACTLY what I needed! I hoover just under champ, just finally started working on kickoff, but I need something else to improve in. While I fast aerial and get to the ball first most of the time, I now need more aerial control and adjust my car to get lined up better for a shot towards goal. Thanks and subbed! Channel is popping off ;)
This is the best air roll walk through I’ve seen to date. I’ve been playing since rocket league first dropped an honestly at some points i just think I’m stupid and my brain just isn’t capable but I am going to try my hardest using your tips..
Thanks for the vid man! I'm a washed up C1 who felt like I hit a wall in mechanics improvement so I started looking at the air roll binds and messing with them (always had them bound but never used them) so I started looking for something to help with that control and this is exactly what I was looking for. Already things are coming together after just a couple hours of practice and I'm starting to hit much more precise aerial control opening up so many opportunities...little sad I didn't find this sooner. But thanks again! 10/10 recommend drilling these for improvement.
Hey man, really appreciated the vid... it finally made click and I can suddenly fly through those hoops =)... Actually what did it for me... which actually I don't believe was ever mentioned before was to stop spinning slightly before you want to adjust the direction. Once I started doingt that, I started anticipating corners and move the care in the right trajectory to catch the corner. Made ti much easier to adjust while spinning continously as it gave me a bit of sense where the car is going to be.... I am super excited about it... Much appreciated
Same i thought when your where in the air you were Supposed to click and i realize that i dont git a key bind i realize that like 2 week and im a gold 2 lmao
Is there any downside to unbinding air roll and just going with air roll left and air roll right? I've seen this question asked before and all I see are conflicting reports.
Yesss i am plat 3 and already very used to air roll left on ps4 controller l1 and air roll right r1. If the word of this comment gets out to it would certainly be a help
I have been using air roll left and right (Binded to L1 and R1) exclusively for the past five years. I haven't seen anything that can be done with normal air roll that cannot be done with air roll left/right. I am around champ 2 right now. The only downside to my bindings is that I have my powerslide on L1 as well so it's very difficult to chain wavedashes.
Just about every pro player and content creator on this game uses both normal air roll and a directional air roll. What these players do is that they bind normal air roll and powerslide on the same button while having one of the directional air rolls on a different button. The normal air roll / powerslide button is used for recoveries, wavedashes, and other small car control changes while the directional air roll button is pretty much exclusively used for aerial car control. This is the best way to go for your controller bindings. For me, I use an Xbox controller and have normal air roll / powerslide set to the X button while my air roll left is on LB. Most players, like Thanovic and pro players have the same thing just flipped (air roll / powerslide on LB and air roll left on X). Highly suggest using these settings.
I bought a controller with a couple buttons on the back of the paddles. I bind those to air roll left and right and it helps immensely. I use B/Circle for boost, so I didn't want to have to relearn my muscle memory for boost.
keeping your car in the air is actually pretty easy for anyone that has a basic understanding of air rolling but your tips are very usually pretty good ones XD
Hi, this may help you: Download Neon Heights Rings map, and use BakkesMod mode to slow the game, first figure out every movement slowly while rolling in the air, then go into the rings and, and when you improve at controlling the car, speed up the game. It took me only 3 days to learn. of course I need practice to be consistent. Note: if you don't know what BakkesMod is search it and it'll help you a lot.
This will likely get lost here, but I'm in mid diamond and want to completely revamp my settings and game. This is day 1 of me using your controller settings and I was wondering how you hold you controller when playing. Thanks.
Completely normal but my middle finger is on R2 and index on R1. Left index on L1 and I bring it down to L2 if I need to reverse. If I need to reverse and power slide I use my middle finger to hit L2
Im still confused. I want to know situationally what you think when you’re air rolling like, “oh I want to go right im going to do ...” like im still confused whether or not you can just hold the stick in one direction to go somewhere or whether ir not you have to time the movement of your joystick with the rolling. Meaning that in order to go right while spinning you have to move your joystick in a circle
I feel the same way. Every air roll left/tornado spinner out there that I've watched simply can't put into words how they developed the muscle memory to unintituively fly like this or at least how and when it started to click for them. The only guy out there who I think is truly didactic and excellent at explaining is Leth, but guess what... not a freestyler and only uses regular air roll.
Hi, Babybonez made a really good and in-depth video on situationally air rolling, i suggest you check it out. He also goes through how different turns are made! The video is called "ULTIMATE Air Roll Left/Right Tutorial | How, When, And Why To Use Directional Air Roll Rocket League "
It's something that literally has just clicked for me subconsciously...I forced and forced the air rolls more and more and it just made me understand the analog movement. If it helps... I use air roll left almost exclusively rn and I used to start almost every aerial pulling diagonal down right on the stick to get my car straight up while spinning... Idk lol it's the first step I took maybe 100 hours of gameplay ago and just that first movement was my foundation. Maybe give that a try in training a bit just to feel some accomplishment lol because it is a long and arduous journey to muscle memory
jaint ill have to give it a try. I do try and air roll as much as I can, I just use regular air roll instead of air roll left. Hope I can figure it out, having the dialogue stick open for adjustments sounds good
Cyruzh RL nah every time I tried I got annoyed and never really saw the point of it and there haven’t really been any road blocks that made me learn it. I just see that everyone uses it so it must be useful
@@dobronxxs I'd use it on r1 if you play with dualshock. I use back triggers on my nacon controller for air roll left and have roll right on R1. Look up Aztral's bindings
I'm extremely confused right off the start. How is he bringing his car back in after going out? I've rewatched it so many times and I'm trying to focus on his controls but it just doesnt make sense
so when you air roll are you using you air roll left/right or are you holding down air roll and using your stick to role? when he hits L1 it is bound to his normal air roll which allows him to spin using analog stick and then he will briefly let go of L1 to change direction.
@@Africa41 lol bind your standard air roll and then try spinning first while holding down the air roll button and your analog stick then try changing direction. I made the same mistake lmao

This is not a principle of air roll, this is a restriction of it, if you want to teach others you should make it clear that you are actually telling them to limit their potential to make it easier to learn.

if you use air roll left hold right on the left stick if you air roll right hold left on the left stick. if you do the opposite it screws your car up. it’s more complicated than that but it’s the basic tip that helped me learn it a lot.

I like to know other people’s progression and opinions.

actually this really helped me. when you were talking about tornado spins and how theyre used all the time i realized i was doing air dribbles wrong and as soon as i went in game and tried it i was immediately more consistent and it felt way smoother. thanks!
Pillars is criminally underrated. Here’s why;
I spent the last couple of days frustrated by attempting to learn air roll using the rings maps because everyone recommends them.

Spot on mate. Took your advice a few month ago. And I can air roll now. Cheers

The effort you put into teaching us these things just boggles my mind. Forever grateful for taking your time to do this for us, much love.

@@dimitriustenorio5382 so you just use air roll right and left?
Those buttons are so clutch for rocket league

It took me only 3 days to learn. of course I need practice to be consistent.
Note: if you don't know what BakkesMod is search it and it'll help you a lot.

The only guy out there who I think is truly didactic and excellent at explaining is Leth, but guess what... not a freestyler and only uses regular air roll.
meinukey yeah exactly. I guess ill just practice until I figure it out myself... but I totally agree, for some reason no one can explain it.
Hi, Babybonez made a really good and in-depth video on situationally air rolling, i suggest you check it out. He also goes through how different turns are made! The video is called "ULTIMATE Air Roll Left/Right Tutorial | How, When, And Why To Use Directional Air Roll Rocket League
"

I need a video titled “how to survive toxicity”
step 1: turn off custom chats
step 2: realize it feels worse like this
step 3: JOIN THE PITS OF SALT
Sigh 😔
the key is, beat the toxic people :)
alternatively, ignore them.

I'll help you without a video and I won't even charge you. YOU IGNORE IT. There, you're welcome.
Trained for 4 hours, cant wven getto. Othergoal with airrolls.
Like anything it takes time and patience. Might take an hour might take a month. Either way it’s something you can add to your personal skills and you’ll have an advantage over other players who didn’t put in the time to get better and these skills have won games.
tysm dude it really helped I can actually air roll quite better and it’s only been hours I can imagine how good I will be in weeks!
Brilliant! I'm going to get these mechanics down!
That training pack is fantastic, seeing improvements swiftly. Regards!
0:06 “I have COVID”.... ok bro
