    I diagnosed an issue. Im passed warranty, but Minn Kota still sent the part free. Watched this video and boom! Works perfect! Thank you!

    Dude, this video helped me immensely! With a tournament less than a week away, I ordered the sensor (along with two new cables) directly from Minn Kota and had them delivered overnight. In just a few hours, I had the sensor and both cables installed and I'm back on the water! Thanks for the post!

    Thank you for your video. Just had this happen to mine, of course 1 day before a tournament! I was fortunate to find the part locally to replace the bad one and everything is working fine now. I too found the procedure working around the speed control knob tedious, but doable. I am planning on ordering an extra sensor board and possible control board to have available for future repairs.
    I also took pictures of the repair and appearance before and during the repair to refer back too.

    This was by far one of the best and easy to follow instruction videos on UA-cam...my problem is very similar to what you're talking about only my motor will work for 10 to 15m at the beginning of a day and when my pedal locks up, the spot lock doesn't work or any other features. I also get a very slight flicker from the power light. Could a sensor board also be my issue as well

      Thanks! From your description, my first guess would be a power problem. If you can figure out how to consistently replicate the problem, you can use a volt meter to test various locations of the positive and negative power leads in the trolling motor circuit (both outside and inside the foot pedal). I would look for voltage drops somewhere in the system... that is just a guess on how I would start troubleshooting.

    Hi Great video. What was your motor doing or not doing that made it necessary to replace the sensor board? I've run into a problem after replacing the coil cord cover #324 because it broke. With 2 graphs on the bow the harness was at a bad angle across the left side of the graphs and eventually broke that cover. I had to remove the harness inside the foot pedal including the steering cables to slide the broken cover off and new one on. Once everything was back together i turned on the motor at the foot pedal. When I press the pedal "heel down" it swiftly moves to toe down as well as the opposite. I installed the steering cables correctly; long one on the left. It is the one that goes around the pulley under the foot pedal. Is this sensor board bad?

    GREAT VIDEO TechBass! I'm hoping you can help me...I am trying to figure out if I have the same problem before ordering the part and going through this process. Ultrex is less than a year old, and recently the foot pedal gets stuck with the heel position down. If I use the remote it will work a bit and the pedal will unlock, but when I try to use the pedal again it locks up within a minute or so. Spot lock works fine and no power issues. I did replace the on/off switch a few months ago which went bad. Would appreciate your insight and feedback if you think that my issue might be similar to yours and could be fixed by putting in a new sensor board as you did.

      I have the exact same issue. Did you call Minn Kota to ask them about your situation?

    Well detailed video. I was installing a new Ultrex and a bushing about the diameter of a nickel fell out of somewhere. Not sure where it came from or where it even goes. Someone said it’s part number 432 and going to a swivel pin?? Any idea on this?
    I took a picture of the bushing

    • @techbassfishing6133
      @techbassfishing6133  3 роки тому

      If it is part 432, then it is labeled as bushing for one side of the inner pins of the Ultrex Mount. That mount should already be fully assembled, if I remember correctly, so it doesn't makes sense it would "fall out" unless the mount is coming part. I am not sure I can help much further than that.

      Found out where it goes. I had to pry the piece of plastic away with my fingers to slide the bushing in. Nice quality control Minnkota! Brutal for what they charge for these motors.

    Great Video, very detailed. Thanks for sharing
    I have a question, my spotlock button on my ultrex foot pedal is being very touchy. Sometimes i have to push it 3 to 4 times before the spotlock lights light up. I went on MinnKota's parts portal, thinking i just needed a new switch and its looking like i may need an entire foot pedal control board. Do you happen to know if that is the case? Its a 2016 Ultrex.
    Thanks, Dusty

      I have never had this issue, but if I did, I would first look into the switch itself. I would figure out how to disassemble the plastic cover and run simple tests on the push switch itself. If the switch seemed OK, then it MIGHT be the control board. I would rather MinnKota tech support explain why it would be control board not activating the spotlock function, since it might be a known issue to them.

      TechBass Fishing thanks for the info, I did talk to a licensed repair shop, and they said it’s a magnetic switch that sometimes gets trash in it. If it completely stops working then I will pull it apart.

    I have the Alrex trolling motor. My foot pedal works fine going left but it’s very hard to push going right what could the problem be?

    *Sept 2020 Update:* You can simplify this procedure by *NOT* removing the speed control potentiometer. The risk is that you might put too much stress on the ribbon cable that is attached to the potentiometer. If you are careful, skipping this step would save some time, since that particular component is kind of a pain to deal with. You can see the foot pedal removed without dealing with the potentiometer in this Ken Smith Fishing video (skipped to the 9 minute mark): ua-cam.com/video/7UlMaiF2f7g/v-deo.html
    If I had to replace another one, I would probably keep the potentiometer fastened and just be careful not to stress the ribbon cable.

    I just got a brand new Ulrex in March. Do you think it has the updated foot pedal sensor and cables?

    • @techbassfishing6133
      @techbassfishing6133  4 роки тому

      I would assume that it has the redesigned parts incorporated already. Minn Kota tech support would know for certain. You can tell when the motor was manufactured from the serial number. The first letter (indicates the year) and the next 3 numbers indicate the manufacture day (000 to 365 is the day of the year). The letter R is a 2017 manufacture, and I believe it was the middle of that year that they incorporated the to the redesigned cables and sensor board into manufacturing. This should be verified with Minn Kota tech support. If your Ultrex is new, then it should have a serial number that starts with S or T (made in 2018, 2019, etc)

    What were your symptoms letting you know you needed this sensor? Mine wont steer with foot pedal or the remote acting like steering drive motor is not getting power. Prop spins but head only turns manually.
    Thanks

    • @techbassfishing6133
      @techbassfishing6133  4 роки тому +1

      First, manually pressing the foot pedal will not make it move. It is completely stuck and will not rock back and forth when you try to manually move it. Second, you can hit spotlock and the motor will spin to keep you in place, and if I remember right, the foot pedal will move when spotlock is activated. The key is that manually pressing the foot pedal does nothing, but the automated systems still seem to work.

      My foot pedal is locked but I can't steer with my ipilot link control and spot lock doesn't work. I was trying to find a way to test if my control board is bad or if I have the same issue as you. Do you know a good way to test if it's the control board or the steering sensor board?

    • @techbassfishing6133
      @techbassfishing6133  4 роки тому +1

      @@travisgrit3504 If your spotlock does not work, then it is likely to be a different issue than the sensor board (as show in this video). Also, I am pretty sure that the re-designed sensor board started shipping on 2018+ year models. In my opinion, it would still be worth opening up the foot pedal to check all of the connections on the control board. I am not sure how to test if the control board is functioning properly, besides doing basic volt meter testing to ensure it is getting power and doing wire continuity tests.

    The Ultrex is cheaply made and unreliable. I was just told today that the boards are on back order until late June at the earliest. If the board goes you’re done for months. Crazy!!!
