Who Killed King Harrow?⎮A Dragon Prince Season 4 Theory

- King Harrow is a character that seems to garner a lot of discussion and debate, despite being present in very few episodes. The king of Katolis was prepared to defend his home against elven assassins that had come to take revenge on his quest to kill the Dragon King, and their unborn child Azymondias. Now as we know, Zym was never killed but rather hidden away for our protagonists, Callum, Rayla and Ezran to find, and where our story really begins. But there is a shroud of mystery over the supposed death of King Harrow, which is the true catalyst for the plot and allows for the humans and Xadia to begin a reconciliation. We don’t see his demise, we don’t see his body, and we don’t get any perspective of what truly happened in the fall out prior, except for a significant altercation between Harrow and his supposed best friend Viren. This of course fosters numerous theories and speculation over his supposed death, and we decided to answer these questions to the best of our ability, analysing popular theories and coming up with our own. What truly happened to King Harrow?

I think that in his last conversation with Harrow, Viren decided that, "for the good of all humanity," he had to take the throne. He stunned Harrow so he wouldn't be able to defend himself and made sure no one entered except the assassins. Pip saw all of this and will, eventually, bring the story to Ezran.
Nah, Viren was on the verge of tears when Amaya suggested he wanted this to happrn according to the novel. Doubt he wanted Harrow dead.
@@lukeluke286 A day or so later Viren told Soren that he was to return with news that King Harrow's only child had "tragically died" and make any necessary arrangements. How do you reconcile those two points?
People are constantly doing terrible things and telling themselves it's for noble reasons. Where do you think the saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" got its inspiration?
I'm not saying Viren was laughing manically when he betrayed Harrow, quite the opposite. I imagine Viren whaling the whole time about how he wished he didn't have to do it, that Harrow had given him not choice, that "for the good of all humanity" Harrow, Ezran and Calumn all had to die.
@@ethenallen1388 They are totally different things though. Viren is very clearly a pragmatist, he had reason for wanting to get rid of Ezran. Because Ezran would take the throne allthough he is severely inexperienced and doesn't actually have the knowledge to deal with a situation such as an uncoming Xadian invasion. Am i saying it's justified, no it's not. I'm saying it had a reason behind it, Killing Harrow wouldn't benefit anyone and it would and did make Katolis more vunerable to an elven invasion
@@lukeluke286 The practical thing to do would have been for Viren to have sent Soren and Claudia after Calumn and Ezran as soon as Claudia had told him that they had chummed up with an elf and were intent on returning a certain item to Xadia, quickly eliminate the elf and possibly Calumn, and make Ezran name Viren regent or even abdicate the throne, preferably in front of witnesses and thus settle the matter at once.
The practical thing to do would have been to indulge Opeli's insistence for the traditional seven days of morning for a fallen ruler, which I'm sure would have included allowances for such emergencies as times of war, and insure her cooperation going forward instead of publicly flipping her the bird at a state funeral, thus insuring that she would oppose him every future chance she got.
The practical thing to do would have been to confirm that Calumn and Ezran were dead before announcing that they had been murdered and that he would be taking the crown, thus avoiding that chance of publicly being called out as a liar and giving those who were already suspicious of him more reasons to question his loyalties.
A practical man, a man who was sincerely motivated by concern for the kingdom and humanity in general, would not have found himself in the mess that Viren did.
I feel like it would kind of ruin the story a little if harrow turned out to be alive. If he didn't actually die, callum and Ezran's story arc about accepting his death goes down the drain.
I feel it just defeats the purpose of strong story telling of loosing a loved one at a young age in a children's show if they reveal Harrow was actually alive. It's sad and I loved his character but I think it's needed for everyone's character building and storyline. Especially for Ezran's coming of age and becoming a king (a very big responsibility) as a child that was not unplanned.
The body was a generic soldier, he put inside. He burned the body before the body could be seen as false.
I still think it's the bird theory. I mean, who taunts a bird stuffed into a cage if they DIDNT know that the King's soul was INSIDE the bird? Also, why be upset if that same bird escaped? If It was any old bird, who cares? It makes way more sense for Ezrin's story because of the talking to animals thing AND him being forced to give up the thrown. I don't think it's too stale just yet. True, it feels like he totally just yeeted himself out of the picture, but maybe he was trying to find his sons? Try to find someone who could help him? It IS a bit too up in the air, but I like to think the bird theory makes more sense than the coin.
If Viren had convinced himself that he was the great hero who was about to save humanity, then he may have been genuinely confused by Pip's hostility.
We are shown Pip's escape, but do we ever see Viren expressing any actual anger or dismay at her departure?
She may have seen or heard something that will be important later on.
I personally don't think harrow's soul is in the bird. If he was, it would kind of negate his death and callum and Ezran accepting that fact becomes entirely pointless.
Thank you! Why I'm here, to se if anyone else has this theory. Hoping this will be revealed in season 4
I've heard rumors that the creators had originally planned to bring Harrow back as the bird, but the more they thought about it, the less they liked the idea.
Now that makes sense.
There are just too many pieces that fit together in such a way for bringing up the Dark Magic use of the Soul Fang to not have any payoff.
The pieces line up too well to be a coincidence. But the argument that such a twist would sour the character arcs of Callum & Ezrin is equally valid. Both plans for the story leave something to be desired.
3:05 This!!! Theorising is half the fun of watching shows like these, I always find it sad when creators feel the need to debunk things in the middle of everything, it just ends up ruining the fun for people
Completely agree!!
It would be pretty cool if raylas parents made a comeback, if this happened I wonder what they would think of Callum after watching them try to take down viren within a second, plus their weapons are freaking awesome! A sword whip, and the other thing! So yeah If this happens I would be really excited
I have a little idea: When we see Runan’s flower, it hasn’t reached the bottom. It’s kinda in between the surface (living) and the bottom (death). So I think the coins are a kind of way of killing you but you’re not really dead, if that makes sense. The top of the pool is just so bright that the elves can’t see that it is not completely sunk.
If it was the coin soul sucking thing, wouldn't the bands have fallen off the moment Viren did it?
I think he did swap the souls of harrow and the bird, as he seemed very eager to destroy his body so that he had no way of going back, no to mention how he spoke to the bird.
I think it was straight foward and they wouldn't wait this long to bring him back maybe we will see him in a flashback? Idk
What if Harrow swapped with bait!
Think about it.
Bait is always by Ez’s side. Like a guardian overseeing his son
Maybe there’s gonna be a scene when the king is spending his last hours and bait stumbles in and decides to do the spell. (Bait is pretty smort)
And in Callum’s letter it says that bait likes tummy rubs. WHAT IF harrow knew that if he was bait he would like tummy rubs so HE PURPOSELY INCLUDED THAT IN THE LETTER.
I think he is in Pip and the reunion between him end Ezran could be saved. It's not a completley missed oportunity
Honestly I think having him actually be alive would be cheap and defeats the purpose of Callum and Erzan's lesson moving one after a loved one dies. And this show doesn't shy away from death.
Viren's actions and the story structure make more sense if Harrow was actually murdered by the elves. Thematically it fits into the theme of cycles of revenge. Viren the villain, pursues revenge the hero's Ezra and Callum accept their fathers death and seek reconciliation. Its also generally more in line with Viren's character as a devoted friend to be distraught over the death of his friend. I think the next story strand will be about living up to parental approval, Ezra in the kingdom living up to the ghost of his father, Claudia trying to live up to her fathers expectations.
Neve been this early for a video ever
All theses theroies here, but we will never know at all unfortunately still, hopefully answers in season 4 it's confirmed that some fire elf is going to, be having the same actor as Harrow.
Cant wait for s5
What but s4 is not out
Was it a typo?
the flower only sunk halfway
Bird dad is real. His son can talk to animals I mean the foreshadowing is too much ....maybe thats why they wont do it after all because, you know, "sUbVeRtINg ExpEcTAtioNs"
5:47 tropes might be a good definition, but I feel like it tends to go more towards stereotype, not really focusing on the literal appearance.
- Breed might be better.. Maybe a bit too sexual?
- Races might be the one! Yeah it's used for what you're trying to describe.
- but looking on the internet, 'Species' might be a better word because Race would sound too general or something.
Looking at quora and other 'articles', Saying 'the same race' or 'the same species' should be good enough. Race is more general (to say). If it was up to me a 'fire elf' would be a subspecies from the race Elves.
I believe in the bird theory that Harrow is in Pip’s body, since why else would he taunt a bird like that? I think Viren came into the throne room before anyone else and tried to kill Harrow believing he saw to weak to rule and needed to die so he could save humanity but couldn’t because he’s his friend so instead he swaps Harrow’s soul into his bird and when the assassins and guards do come into the throne room the assassins don’t kill Harrow but Pip inside Harrow’s body.
Harrow is dead, killed by Runaan. Harrow is not In Pip, and he is not In a coin. And no, Viren didn't kill Harrow, it is so completely out of character for Viren. Harrow was Viren's best friend, he saw him as a brother. Even if they fought. He nearly cried when Amaya suggested he had something to do with his death. And I know people hate Viren, rightfully so, but earlier in the show his actions and motivations made much more sense than in S3. If anyone betrayed anyone, it was Harrow. Viren stood by Harrow through anything, *anything* he would've died for him, and Harrow disregarded it as meaning nothing. No wonder he was a little angry.
While I agree harrow is dead, I have my doubts about the circumstances. Even if pip isn't harrow, he still may be able to offer us a little insight into what happened the night he died.
Or we just accept he is dead. Just because we didn't see him die, could also be for viewership for young people. I think productions even forgot about him looking and S3 and S4
The show did make it seam like he was turned into the bird!?
When is season 4 coming to Netflix again?
Late 2022 at the earliest!
