I actually really liked the way season 4 handled their relationship. Yeah it would have been nice if Callum had been a bit more warm to Rayla at first, but his reaction made sense to me. I enjoyed that he started warming up to her little by little as the season progressed though, those little moments were a great lead up to the hug. I also get why there was no conversation between them. After episode 4, Callum is so worried about Aaravos potentially controlling him again that a relationship is the last thing on his mind. After that hug though, I definitely think we’ll finally get the Rayllum heart to heart we have been waiting for in season 5.
I would agree with you, if Rayla actually accomplished anything, because like this, she didn't do anything except get a pet for marketing, and refused to contact or visit.
Too bad they didn’t add it in the actual show. Having to go find massive plot points for a story in spinoff material really hurt season 4. Making it with the attitude viewers would have all bought the graphic novel (that many people had no idea existed) wasn’t a good writing decision, they really should’ve at least recapped the important parts in the first episode, so people weren’t completely confused.
@@Sanakudou I completely agree, I was wondering how they were going to cover TTM but they just didn't... Hopefully it does get explored a bit more in S5 now that they've found some ground to stand on. But I'm not sure they'll ever share the letter explicitly in the show - maybe something small about it like how it's still in his room or whatever (potentially, idk).

I’m glad he pointed out 10:38, it was so unnecessary for Callum to say that, and honestly could have been used to mend the relationship but instead it just unnecessarily delayed it. It’s like Callum is 17 but hasn’t matured at all since the events of season 3. I’m on Callum’s side of the issue regardless, but that was uncalled for. To make it clear, two years have passed, and apparently the events of seasons 1-3 were two months (from what I heard), so that is a lot of time away from each other for how short of a relationship it was (in comparison to the two years of time). She never wrote to let him know she was at least alive (which was on his mind as shown in the first episode on his birthday), and she doesn’t seem to realize how much she’s hurt Callum. To make it clear, Callum is kinda being immature with his way of ignoring the elephant in the room, but his feelings are understandable, just not the way he is approaching them. Now back to Rayla, she never wrote, doesn’t seem to understand Callum’s emotional state by only saying “I know you are hurt” yeah no crap, but she also left on his Birthday. I don’t know if it was addressed, but she left on Callum’s birthday and couldn’t stick around to at least celebrate it and not make it a day that reminds him of her leaving? 1/730 days she was gone and it could’ve made thing’s probably better between them. In the grand scale of things I don’t think 1 day to celebrate his birthday would hurt. Oh and to top it all off, in the events of the comics and anime, she betrayed his trust. They were going to go together to find Viren, but she left him in order to protect him. I understand her reason, but that “white lie” broke Callum and wasn’t actually a “white lie” as she wrote in her letter to Callum. I do want to point out that Rayla has realized her mistake and is trying to make up for it, but Callum being in the state that he is during the season is due to her. Edit: I also want to add that she never apologized to Callum for breaking his trust and leaving for two years, but apologized to his brother when she first saw him… Second Edit: I also wanted to add that it was poor writing when Callum decided to split up with his brother and not go with Rayle in the uncharted forest. I mean come on, it’s the writers delaying the problem between the two in order to make more episodes and scenes around the “couple issues”, but a lot could’ve been helped if Rayla and Callum just stuck together. Events that transpired on top of the storm spire already showed Callum and Rayla were beginning to talk, but it got thrown to the side. It also doesn’t make sense why a crown’s guard would split up from the king??? Hello??? I understand Callum is capable but why would an crown guard openly split up from the crown. Stupid writing in season 4.

Although I think the reason she didn't apologize to Callum is because she knew that wouldn't be enough, that she needed to do more, and that it wouldn't mean anything to him either. I also think Soren agreed to go with Rayla in order to spare Callum's feelings, and probably wanted to talk to her himself as well.
I think they're in a similar situation to what Bolin and Opal were in the book 4 of LoK. They might be mending but I still think Rayla needs to do something to redeem herself for breaking Callums trust
6:45 I’m not sure Callum’s smile signifies forgiveness (at least not fully) but rather relief that he didn’t lose her again, as I still think they both need to have a full emotional let out (especially Callum) at some point before they can heal from this ❤️🩹
I think it is weird that Rayla just come back like that in Katholis after two years of chasing. It might have been better if she had found the track of Claudia at the storm Spire. There, she would have found Ibis (RIP), just before the dragon queen, pyre, ezran, callum and soren arrived. Also, i think it would have been better if someone else had destroyed the mirror instead of aaravos, to avoid him attacking someone by manipulating callum.
For me, season 4 Rayllum is amaizing, they fell real, they fell mature but u can't see that at firts watch u have to stop and think, just like all the things in tdp
3:17 What makes this scene so aggravating is that Rayla apologises to Ezran but all she said to Callum earlier was “I know my leaving hurt you.” like, what the actual 🤬?! I know she apologised in her letter (halfheartedly though 😑) but that was before she saw the emotional betrayal she put Callum through & yet she STILL doesn’t give a genuine apology after seeing how hurt he is!
I think they were just pressed for time, honestly. Like with the animation as well, they probably should have just kept us waiting a bit longer in exchange for a bit higher quality; I wouldn't have minded the wait

I honestly don't know what Ehasz and Richmond were thinking when they dedicated so much time to Amaya/Janai and the Human/Sun Elf plot line. They have NINE episodes of TWENTY minutes, and they give a C list plot line so much time, while Soren, when captured, doesn't get ONE conversation with Viren.

I haven't read the graphic novel, but I really don't get why she left alone when they had just agreed to go together. It feels like the creators just wanted to create drama, but it doesn't seem to make sense in the story. Please correct me if I'm wrong. (Edit: Ok so the letter sorta explains why she did it (she wanted to keep Callum safe) but still I personally don't like that answer, especially because Callum can do magic and hasn't been in danger that much)
Don't give too much plot armor lol. It was probably to keep him safe in other ways too (emotionally?) Rayla's also going to be moving very fast to try and cover as much as she can; Callum isn't likely to be able to keep up
They definitely should’ve committed more time to Callum and Rayla really working out their issues, but maybe we’ll get that next season since this one was such a slow burn. I understand Callum’s feelings, when someone leaves you, still having feelings for them doesn’t mean you won’t have some sort of animosity towards them. Callum’s eye rolling and initial dismissiveness is like him trying to protect his own feelings from Rayla because he doesn’t want to give her his heart again if she might leave again. I’m hoping that just the little scene in the final episode isn’t all we get for them fixing their issues. Id like for Callum to really sit down with Rayla and tell her how she hurt him and how they need to rebuild their trust. And likewise, I’d like to see Rayla tell Callum that leaving him at the moon nexus wasn’t a decision she made lightly but that she wouldn’t have been able to handle it if something had happened to him while they were searching for Viren.
They could have at least made that she found a lead or something and then came back to tell them or else it's just weird that it took her two years to find absolutely nothing and just abandon
I miss them so much, when do you think they will be a couple again, in season 5 or 7 hopefully it will be in season 5, I'll settle for it to be at the end of this season
I really think it will be at season 6!! In season 5 they will alredy have solved a part of their problems when it comes to their relationship, but i think they would stay just as friends for a time so they can work on their bond a lil more, i'm sure we'll have a LOT of cute moments btw them, but i really think their come back will be at season 6
I knew, when I saw the season 3 finale, that the next step for their relationship had to be something to argue about. But this is simply not developed enough. The main problem for me is time management. Each season 4 chapter feels like a school summary of a real chapter. This relationship build-up was long and now we are forced to see break and reconstruction in seconds. The characters are less "adults" (Rayla excepted?) and some of their character development is gone. I know that people change in 2 years but they didn't show anything.

It's pretty obvious that they will get back together. They would not be harping on about how they still love each other and things will workout otherwise. I believe they didn't want to tackle the conversation this season and that will happen the next one. I wish for them to be fully rekindled by season 5 end but they probably will extend it to season 6
