      What else do you think it tastes like? Creamy is an adjective that describe the form of the food to be melting and spreading inside your mouth, it's to describe "cream like texture", the taste of any ice cream is mostly sweetness combines with taste of whatever they put inside the ice cream. Pistachio ice cream tastes like pistachio.
      What else can you describe? A piece of toro tastes like a piece of toro, it's a distinctive taste, the texture has to be creamy because it's mostly fat. What else can you describe? Making up words that doesn't make any sense?

      +Eater I don't know that. I am an amateur sushi goer and I have never seen a tuna that dark. seeing that they shipped it frozen from the other side of the globe doesn't give me confidence.

    • @crayon0730
      @crayon0730 8 років тому +16

      +Shadow Heart darker is richer and denser flavour but the colour usually depends on the type of tuna as well as the freshness. I think the fresher the darker the colour is. At least that's what I think.

    • @shmookins
      @shmookins 8 років тому +1

      +crayon0730 I watch that tuna catching contest show. I watch numerous tuna carving videos, and countless sushi videos. I have never seen such dark meat from both type of fishes. I have not seen such darkened fish meat before. and I have certainly never even heard of frozen fish served as sushi.
      Maybe it's a new thing. Maybe frozen fish shipped from oversees isn't worth sushi for hundreds of dollars.

    • @bigtimbolim
      @bigtimbolim 8 років тому +44

      If your sushi house is compliant with U.S. food health standards, it is most definitely frozen. Fish MUST be frozen at least once (usually on the boat it is caught on) to ensure that no bugs or worms make their way into the meat. Fish that is not frozen according to a specific standard cannot be called "Sushi-Grade" in the U.S. None of the sushi places will tell you that though, because some dumbasses actually think that "truly fresh" sushi always makes its way straight from the ocean right to the restaurant still breathing, miraculously completing all of the necessary health inspections and wholesale transaction processes within several hours. Trust me, the fish being frozen is for your own good. Do you know why traditional Japanese sushi is ALWAYS served with wasabi? Wasabi contains anti-bacterial agents. It kills the germs, bugs, and worms. And there weren't any freezers back in the day. So you could bet your ass there were germs, bugs, and worms in the fish. Frozen sushi is safe sushi.

      $400 for any dinner is absurd unless you are feeding several people. I'm sure she was given more sushi than what was shown in the video but I highly doubt it was deserving of the price. I would recommend Ru Sans in Atlanta for excellent sushi at a completely affordable rate.

      No, you can't. A piece of toro tastes like a piece of toro. There are only so many accurate adjective you can derived from one kind of taste.
      Bigger vocabulary = meaningless, you're talking about the same thing, it's about whether you can make a more exact description, and you can't, pal. Cooking that focuses on the taste of the ingredient usually can not be describe, because nobody knows what constitute that ingredient's taste. Cabbages taste like cabbages, there are sweetness inside the taste but sweetness alone is not enough to describe the cabbages.
      Proteins like fish or meat is much harder to describe because they taste like what constitute them, different kind of amino acid, so go ahead, genius, form a new system of categorizing taste.
      Idiot.

I don't think it's asking too much to want a food critic/reviewer to say something beyond that was "so delicious" and "like can you show me how you cut the fish." Hard to respect the opinion of someone who sounds like she just stepped out of her Malibu barbie house.

    This is by far the best omakase experience you can get in America period. Chef siato is funny as hell as shown in the video but the quality of food he produces is just amazing. A lot of people may scoff at $400 for food but if you never experienced an omakase before try it and you’ll realize quickly why it’s so much. Also I got a lot of questions on if your still hungry after the meal and the answer is no! This video doesn’t do it justice you get a ton of food! Obviously each dish you get changes with every time you go but you’ll get 11-16 dishes and you will get full fast! So I recommend you go extra hungry and skip your previous meal. I need to start eating here more but as of now I’ll have to limit it to twice a year.

    so how many pieces of sushi did she get for $400? it didn't seem like very much, or the kind of presentation you would expect for that money. i appreciate that the ingredients and location are pretty exclusive, but i would be a bit underwhelmed if i went for a $400 dinner and got 10 pieces of sushi served to me in that manner, some tiny cakes and a soft serve vanilla ice cream... i'd rather go for oysters, lobster, caviar and filet mignon... and finish it off with an insanely creative desert... surprise me.

      I agree with your statement about class. But I think you are deluding yourself if you believe that you can create the same level of sushi as this guy at home. Unless if you have been training as a sushi chef in Japan for the last 10 years that is, then pardon me.

      Gajeel Redfox I think it's unfair for most of us to judge the cost of the meal just because we aren't trained as professional chefs or own high-end restaurants. So a lot of the time we are undervaluing what we are getting, just because we don't know what's going into that meal. And I don't just mean ingredients because time, staffing costs, rent and utilities can cost a lot too. But if any of you do own/work at a restaurant in the 50 Best, then I am happy to be educated by you.
      I think at the end of day we just need to be happy with what we get and if $400 sushi isn't your thing, either stop complaining and go eat somewhere else or open up your own place and change things.

    What does $400 buy you? The right to consume unsustainable/endangered species.

      Don't let Greenpeace hear that. Sad that one group of People may cause the extinction of whales. Just because they won't consume other foods.

      dude, nothing there was endangered. the ocean sustains itself and the roe is almost certainly farmed, meaning extremely sustainable. think for yourself.

    this remind me of an episode from the simpsons when homer received marriage advice from the sushi chef while eating omokase lol
    sushi chef: "marriage is like sushi, all the delicacies and greatness are taken into care into making it the best sushi one deserve, and all the guts and bitter parts we use it to make omokase"
    homer: "omakase......where have i heard that before"
    sushi chef: "you heard nothing, now eat your omakase"
    hahaha not literally the actual wordings but close enough
