When my mother was dying. I read to her John 14:1-4. Which made her transition to heaven easy for her,and help to not grieve so hard. As she knew where she was going.

“He’s where the joy is,” and today’s readings show us how to live in that joy. First, who do we mean by “He”? TLC’s study “He’s Where the Joy Is” (which our church small group worked through) shows the “He” to be the Trinity. “I AM in the Father and the Father is in Me” (Jn 14:11), and the Spirit “brings Me glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me” (Jn 16:14). What strikes me as new about what the Unity of the Father, Son, and Spirit bring is that we live and abide in this Unity when we obey Jesus (Jn 14:21). I’ve been very familiar with Jesus’ commands to obey Him (…and no, “my familiarity” doesn’t mean I’ve always obeyed…), but these commands to obey always seem to follow being “in Him” (as at Jn 15:5, and 15:9, where He says, “Remain in My love. When you obey My commandments, you remain in My love.”). Obeying Him ensures that I remain in Him (“Him” being the Unity of the Trinity), and that is what leads to Joy: “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with My Joy. Yes, your Joy will overflow!” (Jn 15:11).

I’ve heard or read a few teachings about John 15:2 and how “in me (Jesus)” refers to believers (therefore not Judas Iscariot); and how “takes away” is the Greek word _aero_ and can mean “lifts up.” I saw a video that shows how a vine dresser lifts a straggling vine up and ties it to the trellis to get it out of the mud so it receives sunlight and can be fruitful. This makes so much more sense in light of who Jesus is and what He does and how He loves His own! In fact, in 15:6 we see that it is the one who does not abide in Jesus who is taken away and thrown out. I certainly have had the experience of Jesus lifting me up out of the muck and mire and putting me in a place where I could get air and sunlight and start growing again. Something to think about. 🙏🏼

He doesn't abandon us in our grief, He knows and is present especially when we ask Him to meet us in our grief and be present in our pain. God bless you all!

These chapters are so rich about our Savior Jesus Christ! He is the only way to God. He is the way, the truth and the Life (John 14:6). He is the true vine that we must abide, or remain, in (John 15: 1, 5). He is our friend who loves us and gave His life for us (John 15: 13). By believing, abiding, and following Jesus, we are promised the Helper (the Holy Spirit) that will live in us and guide our lives (John 16: 13). Then, no matter what happens in this world, our grief will be turned to joy (16: 20), and we can take heart despite troubles because we have a Risen Savior who overcame the world. Praise His holy name!!

“I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭17‬:‭23‬ ‭NLT‬‬
This verse is so beautiful to me, as it exemplifies, not only the extreme amount of love that Jesus and God has for us, but it also tries to unify us under that love. It is using God’s love to create more love, and unity, so beautiful. God bless all of you today✝️🤝

Aloha, praise the Lord, and good evening BR family. Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you for your service. However, the most important service that matters is serving God. He wants us to build the kingdom on earth by loving one another, repent and ask for forgiveness. 14:1-2, he said: Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go and prepare a place for you. He is where the JOY is!!!❤

I find myself in tears as we end the earthly life of Jesus. I cannot help but think about the fact that he knew the humiliation and suffering that was coming. I am also completely amazed about how short the New Testament is in comparison to the Old Testament. I guess I always knew this, but reading through the Bible this year has made that so tangible. I wish there were more stories as I want to know so much more about his earthly ministry. #questionsforheaven

Great and powerful recap. Great explanation of why some of our prayers may seem unanswered. I have an estranged daughter and I have been praying for reconciliation for years. I have had to accept it is not in His will …. Yet. I know He has been working on growing my faith and trust in Him and have had to learn to just lay it at His feet. Also most assuredly I recognize He has work with her on the other side and is dealing with her free will. I need to just be patient and trust Him that He is at work and in His time….not mine. When the time is right, it will be His will.

Diane, I too have an estranged daughter, so I know of your pain. I'm praying too. My daughter is 53 and even tho now she is no longer drinking or taking drugs and actually is able to hold a good job, those bad years have scrambled her clear thinking and have caused her to turn away from me and her siblings. It is so sad. At this point I truly think prayer is the ONLY possible path to reconciliation.

Jesus prayed for all believers, both His decipils, and us today. God chose them, and God chose me.
Wow! God chose me.... if I let that sink in, I realize what a big responsibility I have to be an example to others. I have a responsibility to do everything I can to follow Jesus's teachings and to LOVE OTHERS as God loves me.
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other."
God, be with us Christans to Love like You! Help us fill our hearts and minds with Your Word, Your Love, and Your Joy! Jesus, Father, Holy Spirit, guide me and all of us on your vine. Help us bear Your good fruit. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

There is so much in these passages.
What stood out to me the most is that He does not leave us as orphans (I recently learned about the orphan spirit) but He is with us and Iives in us (John 14:17-18). We live because He lives (John 14:19). This reminded me of the old hymn Because He Lives and I listened to several versions while reading.

Jesus emphasizes obedience (Jn 14:21) and remaining in Him as the vine (Jn 15:2-3). In fact, the Father cuts away those who do not remain in the Vine, and prunes those who do. He is using His word, His people, and circumstances that He allows to prune me into greater obedience, to bear more and better fruit.

I’m so glad You Father, are sovereign over my sin loving will.

    • @Jennifer13515
      @Jennifer13515 Рік тому +9

Well, the Scriptures can be relied on to demonstrate how God has decided to interact with his creation. We observe in the Scriptures that God is sovereign in that it is his absolute right to do anything he pleases, and we also observe that what has pleased Him is to allow free moral creatures to make free moral decisions. We have the ability to make moral choices because God has given the freedom and because He is sovereign. And He very clearly lays out in Scripture both our ability to respond appropriately to His invitations to know him as well as His expectations that we respond appropriately. He lays out benefits and gives warnings and consequences for making these moral decisions. In the end, though, He’s decided to leave the choice to follow Him up to us
If God was not sovereign he would not be able to allow for human choice, he’d most likely be threatened by it. He can handle a world full of free creatures, Satan and fallen angels and STILL accomplish his ultimate purposes and plans despite and sometimes in and through the freewill actions of his creatures. No matter what happens from the beginning of time until judgement day, His PURPOSES will stand. What an awesome God!

      "ACCEPTED IN THE BELOVED."
God saves whom He will, and where He will, without asking the permission of Protestant free-willers or enthusiasts. He says, "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." (Rom. 9:15)
The Lord graciously preserve us from that Protestant pride which plumes itself above Divine Sovereignty. True benevolence and true liberality are found alone in the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, which the masses of professing people hate, and, hate a sovereign God they do. But look here! The Church. Not the Church of England, not a dissenting denomination, not a clique of separatists; but the Church of the living God, the members of the spiritual body of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the sheep redeemed with His most precious blood, the living stones in the temple of eternal love.
Many of these never belonged to any religious organization. To what church did the dying thief belong? To what rites or ordinances did he submit? I love to be found in his company, redeemed by blood, washed from all filth at the same fountain, and clothed in the "nothing amiss" of the Dear Saviour dying by his side. That is what I like, to know that I stand justified in the "nothing amiss" of the Covenant Surety from His mother's womb to His Father's throne up yonder. This is His perfect righteousness, His spotless obedience, not merely in, but unto death, for "Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered," (Heb. 5:8) AND IN THAT SUFFERING OBEDIENCE WE, AS MEMBERS OF HIS BODY, STAND PERFECT AND COMPLETE, "ACCEPTED IN THE BELOVED."
      Thomas Bradbury (1677-1759)

My God shot: Jesus died for me and sent the Holy Spirit to help me navigate this life so that eternity with God is mine.
Reading John 17 confused me further in believing and/or understanding the Trinity doctrine. I have to keep studying and praying because I don't see it in scripture. Every scripture that I have read and looked up the Greek or Hebrew terms in those scriptures don't equate to sameness. The word one in :I and my Father are one' was also used by Jesus describing the disciples which means unity/united, and word used in 'The Word' was God means an expression of thought. If anyone can me with scriptures I would be tremendously appreciative.

I always thought He was the wsy and the truth and the light. Today I learned it is "life" not light. Or in some translation is it light?

When I try to quote that passage I always say "light." Makes me wonder if it's interpreted that way in some translations.
