  • Introducing the EVH 5150III amplifier. Buckle up.
EVH 5150III heads and cabinets deliver the sound-the incredible tones Eddie Van Halen has chased his whole life. It's a triple-threat monster: a truly clean channel, a molten crunch-time channel and an off-the-scale overdrive channel you're simply not gonna believe. In black and ivory, with an unmistakable look and sound that's pure EVH.

I've owned this amp for seven years now and I'm still blown away! Nothing that I tested before or after I got it compares to it when it comes to sound, versatility and ruggedness. It has been with me for countless gigs and still, every time I play it live or in the rehearsing room it puts a smile on my face! Gonna keep that thing forever!

I have to say, as much as I adore Ed, I was never a fan of this amp. It always sounded kind of nasally to me whenever I saw him play it live on each of the last three tours. It sounded like that warm, mid-rangey punch in the chest he was talking about wasn't there. I never even felt motivated to try one. I have an original 5150, which I love and have played through for 25 years; but the new ones just never grabbed me. I'm glad other players are happy with them, though.

@@bruceguice5306 What do you plan to do with it? Bedroom? Recording? Gigging with a live drummer? 100 watt is awesome but it's overkill (and expensive) for a bedroom player. In that case, I'd get a combo. If you're playing in a garage band or bars, a 50 watt head with a 2 x 12 or 4 x 12 cabinet will be plenty loud. As for 6L6 vs EL34 power tubes, not a HUGE difference but the EL34 has a bit more British vibe to it.

I remember shopping for a car stereo back in 1978.Anyone remember the old car audio stores where they had the demo decks mounted on the walls hooked up to a switching apparatus so the salesman could switch different decks to different amps and speakers so they could demonstrate how you needed to buy the “bigger amp” with the “high end “ speakers? Well I brought my brand new 8-track of VanHalen 1 to have them test the decks with. The salesman with the slacks and the mullet, if I remember right, he even had a “pukka shell necklace on” He cranked up Running With The Devil” yelled who in the Hell is this band!! he had the installer guys coming out from the back of the store and had a small crowd form , all wanting to know the name of the band!! I felt like a rock star myself!! Lol!!

tricky dick I’m not sure I would compare it to a Mark series, but for what it is, and the cost? Is more comparable to a modded Marshall, and I don’t use a boost with it. Sounds great, it actually has soul, unlike its previous versions. I didn’t like the peavey version at all. But lots of people do. You can see the amps I have, and the 5153 in my pics www.flickr.com/photos/33338128@N02/

@@Locoandchooch I had a fender version evh5153 50 watter, and I traded it off because it didn't sound any better then my Peavey Ultra teal stripe 120 head... It just had a very bright sounding tone to it, which some people may like, but definitely wasn't my liking. The Peavey versions are killer, when they have good glass in them and paired up with the right speakers and cabinet. Especially the 6505(Block letter 5150 and Sig heads).for all out metal, they sound way meaner and more aggressive in my personal opinion, of owning all 3 of them at various times. Now EVH has James Brown on their team who's made their new stuff way better sounding, especially the stealth series. The fender versions , I don't care for..but the new EVH 5153 Stealth's is what I would consider testing out again.

I love this interview. In the background you can see the original 25 "frankies" that they make as a special run for $25 grand each. He played and signed them all with all kinds of case candy and a cool tour case if I remember correctly. These are the ones that Chip Ellis EVH masterbuilder recreated from pics of the original and when they showed Eddie the first one to get his OK, Eddie brought the original and at some point he did know one from the other. There is a cool video of it somewhere on the UA-cams.

You know for when I only want to piss off the neighbors a little bit. Lots of people love and want the stealth head but I gotta say, the EL34 head is my absolute favorite. It’s the one I bought first. I got a stealth because I thought it was geared more towards a lot of what I play tone wise. But I keep going back to the EL34. There’s just something about it’s tone I fell in love with that no other amp comes close to without a bunch of effects added in.

The guitar with 3 on one side is the EVH wolfgang, and the others are EVH signature guitars as well

Eddie was the one who could make it scream .but another great guitarist that I imagine no one has heard of was Frank Marino .I mean very few. Lets don't forget the plumber. Ace...

Yes it sucks it hurts losing your hero But the impact hes had on me as a musician You can't replace that. what it means to meAnd every other person who has been touched by these 2 great musicians. They will both continue to Shape musicians life's long after we're gone. And that's what it's all about. It was an honor living in the same stratosphere as Neil & Eddie - Legendary 🤙
Neil's death hit me like a ton of bricks right when it happened and is still reverberating through my body. It's like a punch to the gut. It just f_ing sucks 😕. And I don't think I'll ever get over it. Losing a soul like that is just hard to describe as you invest so much your life into that person And their abilities. Try to emulate everything they do. And hopefully all that stuff rubs off on you ,That they do so eloquently. All I can do is pass on my knowledge from the professor &(evh)& let someone else exp., the wall of sound those two gentle giants created.! They're both gone now. Who they are and what they've created has been seared in my mind. What they've given to the music industry is so Valuable thank you Neil and Eddie. Not but respect.
