  • Greetings and salutations! Jpeg, Tam, Imer, Genesis, and Marks have decided to come together to review Disventure Camp: All-Stars! Together, we form The Disventure Dispatch- a new podcast where we discuss all things Disventure (...and probably other types of media along the way!)
This time around, for the very special "half-time show" of DCAS, we have a full house! 7 people in a Discord call sounds insane... which it absolutely was!
Whether it's little tidbits of insider info, theories and predictions, or interviews with some VERY special guests in the Disventure Camp Cinematic Universe, if you're a DC fan (or just a fan of pure chaos), this is the place for you!
Watch this episode to see our first impressions and reactions to DCAS Episode 11!

Jpeg: A creative writing goofball who just so happens to have a wide range of voices. He is often thrust into leaderly roles... but often finds it funnier to be an evil Karen. Also a proofreader for DC1 & 3 and the voice of Kai in DC2.
Tam: A connoisseur of the spiciest abs with a strong heart whilst being both an artist and an animator, she claims to be an avid fan of the series yet hasn't watched most of DC1 yet. Also a proofreader for DC1 & 3.
Imer: Your local theorist now that MatPat's out of the way, people often chose to ignore him even though his predictions end up being right 70% of the time. A Survivor superfan who's here to put those sensibilities to the test.
Genesis: Writer, singer, and voice actor, it's the VA of Dan in Disventure Camp S1! He'd most likely say "It's a pleasure to meet all of you! 😄 " He's also the only one other than Jpeg to actually write a description for himself.
Marks: Known for being a sweetheart despite playing the most vile character in the series, Marks is here to provide iconic insight and wisdom. With the other four being chaotic as all hell, it's good to have someone with a head on his shoulders for once! Also the voice of Yul in DC2 & 3.

To answer the question for Kenkoi and Deric at the beginning, I would replace Fiore with Nick. I know Miriam was the last character added to the season, but I feel like she was a better character and left more of an impact on the story than Fiore did despite being in half the episodes.
While I have my issues with the way Fiore was executed in S1, I feel like the premise of an evil child who feigns innocence to make people believe she's not a threat is a solid one, even if a little silly. I feel like without that though, she's almost entirely useless and honestly doesn't add an awful lot to the show. She's horrendous at challenges, she doesn't particularly play off of any of the characters well, and she's lost any kind of power or leverage she had over the others now that they all know she's evil. Even her comedy is kind of just a watered down PG version of Yul's.
She didn't contribute to the Villains Alliance in any way at all, and on her team she just kind of lingered around making Diet Yul comments until Ashley and Jake felt they finally had room to vote her off, whichI get was supposed to be a "Ohhhh this was their strategy all along!" moment, but if I'm honest I really didn't find all that narratively compelling.
Ashley's rivalry with Fiore gives me a lot to talk about personally. Ashley is my favorite character of the show, while Fiore is very hit or miss for me, but I'll try and be as unbiased as possible in my explanation here. While I think it had potential in Season 1, I feel like it was incredibly mishandled and badly executed.
For one, it was wrapped up far too quickly as a result of Ashley's early boot; I thought her seeing Fiore like a little sister was very sweet and had a lot of potential to lead to a dramatic and potentially heartbreaking betrayal later down the line where she learns her true colors. Instead it's kind of just wrapped up with Ashley finding Fiore's book, and moved on from really quickly.
For another though, and this is probably the key issue, is that Fiore didn't even really get away with doing anything to Ashley in Season 1. The worst she did was burn her possessions, which she attempted to blame Lill for, but the two figured out she was lying really quickly, and it was ultimately Ellie and Gabby who caused Lill and Ashley to get eliminated, not Fiore. Their rivalry in All-Stars feels more like it was written with Adventure Camp, the Beta version of Season 1, in mind as oppose to the actual season. As a result it's led many people to dislike Ashley for holding such a big grudge over a child who ultimately was just kind of a nuisance to her, which I find really unfortunate.
In regards to Nick, though, I feel like he's one of the characters with the most missed potential in the show. One thing I like about All-Stars is that there is more of a focus on survival or having to camp outdoors without cabins and such. I feel a character like Nick would have been perfect for this, given he's a pompous rich boy I imagine he's never cooked his own food or folded his own clothes in his life, so him having to adapt to such conditions for an entire season would have been incredibly interesting to me. I also feel him being in AS would have made up for him leaving S1 on such an unnecessarily sour note. Him taking Fiore's place on the Pink Team would have also provided more interactions with Ashley, which I think a lot of people would have appreciated.
I also feel S1 missed out on having him develop a friendship with Ellie, especially seeing as both characters were on the same team. I feel like when you have a minimum wage worker character and a stuck up rich kid in your cast, there was a lot of potential for them to start off with a rocky relationship but come to understand and respect each other over the course of the season. Think something like Gwen & Geoff's friendship in TDI. I think this would make Nick a much more interesting character, but also have made Ellie much more likeable and given us more of a reason to want to route for her, since aside from her scenes with Gabby, all we really get out of her was an alliance with Alec that ultimately went no where in the end. I didn't even know she was supposed to be a minimum wage worker until a friend who'd seen the beta told me she was.
Anyway, I'll shut up now, hope you enjoyed the read. Overall I thought Episode 11 was a step in the right direction. I'm very thankful Connor has gotten another chance, I really hope to see him have more interactions with some of the heroes like Ally and Tom and doesn't just stick to Riya and Alec going forward. Ashley and Yul were also great as always.
