      @@Digiphex I will walk out of a performance if I see some egged criticizing the cutoff point of a keyboard string sound. Not necessarily because he's wrong, mind you, but because he's a world class nerd and he's going to scare all the girls away and although I love music too, I'm pretty much just here to get laid.

    For a screen interface, it is well done, best so far from Roland for sound design. But as a sound designer I will still have to go with the JupiterX for hands on sound design. 4 layers of PCM and/or modeled is nice too.

    After much deliberation and coming from a Korg Triton Extreme, I just bought a Fantom 6. On a positive note, the sounds are great, and the controls for those sounds are very comprehensive. It connects to my PC easily and acts as a 16 in/3 out USB interface - I use it with Cakewalk by Bandlab. The latest upgrade allows sample mapping to the keyboard, and some basic sample editing functions. However, for my two penn'orth, it has some real failings: 1. The navigation keys and the sequencer keys are all black against a black background and small - they need some contrast. 2. The memory does not appear to be expandable - 2 Gb is your lot, and when the free new expansions (17 in total before you start buying new ones), are all loaded in, it uses up over half the memory available, which is shared with the sampling and sequencing memory. 3. There is no facility to do a linear sequence - ie use the sequencer as a performance recorder. I often build a song from patterns, but then solo over the top; this won't work with the 6. 4. After touch seems to be very insensitive - even changing the settings makes little difference to it's effectiveness. Sadly it often seems in the rush to get stuff to market, that one side of a new instrument is really well developed, whilst other functions found in previous models are neglected or lost.

    If i want to choose Performance on the FLY which song will be next on the stage depends on the singer and dance floor, is there any Pending load for Scenes ? Are they easy to navigate scrolling for each page? ( Set Lists in this situation not working out, Pending load?)

    If Roland just would add full function sampling features in this Fantom, so that you can also adjust and tweak your own samples, the same way you can adjust and tweak factory presets, as you can do in Yamaha Montage, in that case i could seriously consider buying Roland Fantom.

    I don’t mean to be making a direct comparison between the two in a broad sense, but can this Fantom produce synth sounds that are possible on the Kong Minilogue XD? The Minilogue does a very good job at sound production. Could the Fantom imitate those sounds?

    • @MrTownsend
      @MrTownsend 3 роки тому

      I mean, it's hard to say. Every keyboard has their own unique sonic features, especially with analog. I'm sure it can get close, but it's a question of how close do you want it. The other side is the Minilogue is far more of an intuitive keyboard and less of a learning curve. Workstations can take years to really dive under the hood to see what it's capable of. The best thing that I can see for this board is it's ability to connect with computers and even have some CV for the Minilogue, Korg Volcas or Moog's Semi Modular stuff.

    Can anyone from Roland explain why they left the super natural acoustics engine out there... for drawbars, guitars, keys, brass, saxes and many more, it was just brilliant in the integra 7 and jupiter 8.. a true all around workstation needs those sounds in high quallity... onboard.. for live sutuations.. having to rely on pcm for these voices is just a step back. And a big one at that.

      I member the FA 06 had instrument layering I wasn't really blowing away with it as I'm able to they are much more on the computer digital audio workstations but the nice thing about these keyboard workstations is that you don't have to worry about crackling or popping due to the computer and operating system of a desktop what usually happens if I stack on around 5 instruments that have quite a few effects on them individually
