Is it any good? 6000 miles in 5 months on the Royal Enfield Classic 350

  • 6000 miles in just 5 months, how has the Royal Enfield Classic 350 held up?
I bought the bike back at the end of June and ride it almost every day, both for pleasure trips and my daily commute. It gets used in all weathers from blazing sun to freezing cold and rain.
Although I try to keep it clean, I must admit I prefer to spend time riding it rather than washing it. It’s a bike to be used, not just looked at! Like loads of bikers, I don’t have a garage or shed to keep it in, it lives on the driveway chained up and under a cover.
So, how has it held up, and what are my thoughts about the Royal Enfield Classic 350, grab your favourite cuppa and let’s have a look. Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are.
    Ride safe, Dave

I have owned my Halcyon Green Classic 350 since April this year and after 52 years riding will simply say the best bike I have owned from 175s to 1200s of various makes from twins to 4 cylinders but this is my first ever single cylinder bike. Unless you must travel at over 70 mph this bike does it all and has never dropped below 100 per gallon here in the UK. Amazing value for money and very solidly built, but at the same time relaxing to ride and just puts a grin on your face, speed limits are not an issue on this bike, each ride is a joy no matter where you are going. 😊

I'm a 40 year old bike noob. I have a mortgage, two kids, a wife (and a puppy).
When I hit the MANOPAUSE, I decided I wanted some escapism and decided to do a "taster" session at my local bike centre.
In short, I absolutely loved it.
After much research, and a trip to the Birmingham Bike Live show, I decided to invest in a 2023 Yamaha XSR 125 Legacy.
Being 40, I have lived a bit and have weakness in my left leg following a car accident (muscle wastage and drop foot means it looks more like a kids arm than a middle aged blokes leg!). This meant weight was massively important to me.
The retro 70's / 80's inspired looks on the Legacy, class leading engine, and the upright seated position all appealed to me.
Not to mention the Yamaha man dealer network and reliability.
Sure, its expensive for a 125 - I get that, but as a way into (hopefully) a new escape / hobby / lifestyle choice, it ticked all the right boxes for my ability.
Over the next two years, I will go for my test and decide where the bike gods (and that pathetic leg) allow me to go next.
I love the Royal Enfield 350 classic - but like I said, we will see on the weight situation.
Excellent content as always, ride safe mate.
Happy Christmas, and healthy New Year to all guys

Hi Simon, welcome to the mad world of bikers. Your new Yamaha is a fantastic bike. When you think about it ALL bike have an engine, 2 wheels and handlebars, other than that a lot of it is just show. Sure some will say its only a 125 and too slow, but who cares. When I started out it was a 50cc moped, I went all over on that, even touring holidays. Was it slow, dam right it was, but that let me see more of the countryside and the grin on my face was still massive.
Enjoy you bike bike, enjoy the fun, freedom and grins it brings.
I don't know what area you are from, but if you are in Yorkshire or Derbyshire areas and fancy a ride and a cuppa I will ride with you, a bike is a bike.
Have a fantastic Christmas to you and your family and ride safe mate, Dave

I'm a skinny 63 year old bloke with a hip problem and recently sold my Honda Rebel 500 (CMX 500). Honestly, it suited me so well. Comfortable riding position, low weight (415 lbs) and that incredible Honda reliability. ABS, spoked wheels, plenty of power for cruising or the motorway. When you get your full license, the Rebel could be a great bike for you. There's also the Rebel 300 (CMX 300) but oddly, the 500 has far superior fuel economy. Anyway, just my two penneth worth and good luck with whatever you decide on.

Own Halcyon Green variant here in India ... The bike is awesome... Can hold 80-90 kmph all day long while also returning 35+ kmpl ... Classic 350 was or is not about going fast... It was and is about the feel of motorcying which is unparalleled... The confidence that it exudes while riding is simply the best in its segment... The more one rides it , the more he/she is going to appreciate the simple yet high quality and robust nature and feel of it... It is a beauty...

A lot of appreciation has already been made both about the bike and your review. I would like to emphasise on the line where you mentioned that you never needed a rev-meter and always relied on what the engine is saying. I loved the point because as a fellow rider I also do the same, I own an Apache but only refer the meter for the fuel level and nothing else on the screen matters to me or I take a look into while riding... great review...

Great review, always prefer watching reviews from owners rather than someone who has the bike for a few hours , I'm a big fan of smaller bikes, am at the age where I have no desire for a silly fast bike anymore, currently have a CB500X which is excellent and a 125cc Suzuki Address which is great for my 9 mile commute, watched your review as I will probably replace the 125 when it's two years old with the Hunter 350, the classic looks nice though. What a brilliant review. I have fallen in love with this bike. I have an Interceptor 650 and rather than going for more power and speed for my second bike it will definitely be a Classic 350 which has character and charm that much faster bikes can only dream of. The only problem is deciding which colour to choose as they are all absolutely gorgeous. I think that as I already have an Interceptor with metal casings that require regular polishing to keep them looking great I’m tempted to go for Stealth Black. I think it will be a great stablemate for my Interceptor. I’ve subscribed to your channel which is great👍

I'm very confused bw the two(classic & interceptor). I was all set to buy the Inti but then I test rode both, the classic felt so easy going & relaxed. Which one would be better for longer rides apart from the performance? Will installing touring seat & handlebars make the inti comparable to the Classic in terms of comfort?

Excellent Video! I really enjoyed the Camera Work and Commentary. My 1st Bike was a French Made 50cc Mobylette in 1968. In 1970 I bought a ROYAL ENFIELD 350 Bullet, Both these bikes were " Fixer Uppers " . The Royal Enfield was made in the mid 50's in England. When you are " Financially Disadvantaged" like I was , being still in High School at the time, you learn how REPAIR and MAKE THINGS WORK again without spending a lot of money. That Royal Enfield taught me a lot about the mechanics of a Motorcycle. I managed to get it road worthy for short trips in the area I lived in. I always thought I Iwould have liked to have had one in Really Good Reliable Condition. I am myself Very partial too and love the old Classic Single Cylinder THUMPERS from back in the day! The Royal Enfield Bullet my Classic Favorite.!! Your Video took me back to another time indeed!!

Great bikes and a very accurate review. I agree with your tyre assessment as they give confidence and like you have never been as issue. Also the comments regards riding aids is something that chimes with me and the points you raise regards riders skill is very valid. It feels to me that these developments are driven by the constant reviews that seem to demand more and more and it drives the price up. I have a VFR 1200X that has nothing bar ABS and traction control and certainly does not require these fly by wire systems to allow you to safely enjoy the ride.

But I actually wanted something smaller to travel with, and to enjoy the scenery at a slower pace. With great gas mileage. That's why the G1 Scrambler is a rather nice bike. I do find that a need just a tad more power.

Hi Garry, I do wish they had put a kickstart on the new Classic 350. There is nothing like swinging the kickstart and hearing it burst into life. And points, they do the job and Ok might not be as reliable as electronic ignition, but are easier to replace and cheaper than electronic. But with new emission regulations it has to be ECU controlled now.
When I retire in 18 months I'm considering an old classic bike so I can relive my youth tinkering with points, link-life on the chain and getting dirty.!

Nice bike, thansk for your vid. I tried one Classic 350 last week and loved it, except for one thing. The rear break pedal is too close to the peg and comparatively slightly elevated, so I had to have my right feet (size 13) all the time in tension to not touch the pedal. I am used to my Suzuki, and the pedal is far enough from the peg to not touch it easily and I can ride with both feet relaxed. I'll try the Meteor, although I prefer Classic's aesthetics, to see how it works there.

Hi - I'm not a RE 350 classic owner, but can add to the 1-2 false neutral discussion.
It's a fairly common problem with many bikes:- either from new when it gets better as the engine breaks in; or conversely gets worse with milage,; or can be an inherent problem due to design or machining errors.
One short term solution might be to "double tap" the lever when changing up:-
Attempt to change up to 2nd as per normal without using excess foot pressure / force until hitting nuetral
Then at the same time and while still holding the clutch lever in, (to let the gearbox internals settle) lift the gear change lightly to see if it'll click properly into 2nd - double tap.
It might be like HD's where it gets better with use
Or it might need a recall and a modification to the selector drum & forks

Hi, thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoy the channel and videos. The service intervals are First service at 300 miles, (minor) on this one they check all bike bike, oil and filter change and valve adjustment. next is at 3000 miles, this is a check with oil and filter change if needed ( for the cost of oil it's much better to have it done) then the 6000 miles (major service), like the first one checks everything including valve clearance. after that it alternates every additional 3000 miles between minor and major.
www.royalenfield.com/in/en/support/owners-manual/ .... this link takes you to the official Royal Enfield site where you can download the owners manual with all the service intervals in it.

owning it is in my area a bit a problem, because Harley folks here believe that they are something better as the rest and let everybody know…

I bought my Halcyon Green Classic 350 at the end of November so have only had limited opportunities to ride it as I don't want to expose it to road salt so early in its life and I'm a soft Southerner! That said, I've managed to get in the first 300 miles and I'm loving it. The riding position is exactly what I've always wanted on a bike (and I've had everything from sports bikes to "adventure tourers"). I would also agree about the tyres, they grip well and give good feedback - and that's been on very wet and slippery roads. Really looking forward to spring and summer now!

Hi kevin, I agree, I have owned or ridden loads of bikes and the Classic 350 put a smile on my face every ride. I have ridden mine most of the winter so far, when I get back from a ride i wash all the muck off it. Lots of wax to start with hopefully will keep it looking good. Defo roll on spring, Ride safe, Dave

After owning this model for 2 months its definately a good bike for the money , it lacks power in acceleration & mid range which can be sorted with a air filter/decat pipe that will be my next step

I really liked this video. It's not a giggle fest or silly or wildly exuberant, which gets tiresome for me. Just explained as smoothly as you ride the little Classic. I'd love to have one but I'm old and poor. I may have to finally sell an asset I've held for 20 years.
I notice you take quick stabs at disengaging the clutch to shift- on your shift 1st to 2nd if it's dragging it could drop into neutral, go for a full pull back to the bar. Liked your video, thanks for posting!

At 13:13. I also have the same thing with mine. An all of sudden acceleration on first and it will not kick into 2nd gear but give neutral. Accelerate appropriately and it will give second gear always. I have no problem with this. I think it’s a good thing actually as this bike is about smiles per hour not mph.
