    I'm on the same journey with my Classic 350. So far I have installed air filter, exhaust, windscreen, and a cam. The windscreen is surprisingly critical in getting the top speed out of this bike. As for the speed limiter, it is in the ECU and uses the front abs tone ring data. I have it on good authority that the hunter ecu/throttle body does not have the limiter and is a direct swap with no programming necessary. I'll be making this swap sometime in March. I fully believe the little J engine is capable of 90mph and I intend to prove it. Why you ask? Cause I can and it's fun to try.

      Very interesting input. Highly doubt i'll ever do the windscreen but the hunter throttle body confuses me. I dont understand why the throttle body would make any difference. I'll ask my RE rep and my shop if they know anything about that.

      @@FoxParasyte the ECU is permanently attached to the throttle body. Your RE dealer probably won't be able to help you as I haven't had much luck in that regard. The parts are available on eBay though.

      I have an old CB250 for the Smokey Mountain 500 vintage ralleys. It is shocking what a simple Spitfire windshield does above 45mph for a tall rider.
      The RE350 is basically equivalent in power torque to that Honda 234cc twin....except the Honda doesn't have limiters built in. Just a mild cam and a gear ratio...that can be altered easily. However you may rag out the motor quicker.

    Speed limit on UK motorways and duel carriageways is 70 mph. I've done a good few hundred miles on motorways doing 60, and it's been fine. Mind you, trucks and people towing can only do 60 so i just tucked in behind a lorry and crunched the miles. No worries. On the whole, UK drivers are pretty good about overtaking so i didn't feel pressured. 😊

    I bought a 2023 Classic 350 because of the high MPGs. I got around 75 mpg during the first 500 miles so I'm happy. I plan on taking back roads when I travel and will stay away from highways/freeways. If I wanted to do highways I would have gotten a bigger bike. Even if I could do 85 mph I wouldn't go on highways with this little bike. I am happy with my RE Classic.

    I just got my California motorcycle endorsement because of this bike. Since I didn't need it to commute to work or any other type of necessary riding, it is strictly for pleasure. I have no problem using GPS clicking the avoid highways check box in settings and cruising up the 101, or up to Julian, or any number of beautiful rides that is pleasurable just for being a road. It is so much fun for that purpose and I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.

    very good video, thank you. Here in Wyoming, 80 mph speed limits, coupled with an altitude often above 5000 feet, makes riding the 350’s a challenge. Really enjoyed your video and past videos. Im buying in 3 months the Classic or Bullet 350 and Im planning on making the same mod (decat mod, fuelx and DNA), but being european half of the problems you got on highway dissapear, here you can go 75Mph constanly and you are quite safe, being "slow" on the right side of the highway is quite respected and hey, if I plan to do 3 hour trip being able to go 100Mph speed is useless. The next understandable mod next is the cam mod, but I find it over my needs. This bike is all about style, sound and efficiency. Thanks for the video mate.

    Sometimes design or style is more important to someone than performance. It might not be the best tool for everything, but it has perks for some things, and that's enough for some people to want it over other selections. The classic style is gorgeous, and these bikes are simple, reliable, and have tons of mods you can do even aside from the performance. I look forward to seeing what you do with the future mods!

      A middle of the lane full frame size bike that can't make a pass of a slow car or a truck in under 10sec is a danger....plain and simple.
      To cripple a 350 down to 20hp or less at the factory is moped/scooter logic to comply with a nanny state rule somewhere.
      The other reason may be the casting and parts are substandard and therefore should not be pushed to their fail limits. Don't know if that's in play with this motor.

    Once again, a great video. Do you find the 350 sounding strained at 65mph? Buzzy? Do you get the feeling you are doing it harm by running extended times at freeway speed? I don't have a problem with a 75mph speed limiter but going max revs all day sounds like a good way to wreck the bike. People have tried the larger sprocket and commented that it made the bike more relaxed at 65mph, but it doesn't increase the top speed and it tends to bog it down in slow speed acceleration. Half the people that put it on report that they removed it after running it for a while. They did not have the performance mods on it, however. I read that the cam can add about 5hp to the bike, it is targeting the low, mid range performance envelope, the complexity of installation makes me leery of it. It would undoubtedly void the warranty.

    • @FoxParasyte
      @FoxParasyte  8 місяців тому +8

      So... here's my thoughts.
      A STOCK 350 is definitely strained at 65+ and yes is buzzy. Granted i have NOT had a stock bike that has been past the brake in period.
      That being said the bike modified like mine has zero issues going to the speed limiter. No vibrations, buzziness, strain. If it wasn't for that limiter i know it would go past 80 all day long. As it sits at 75mph, top gear on flat land. The bike displays the "eco" sign on the dash which it never really did as frequent prior to all these mods.
      The problem lies with the fuel mixture needing to be balanced. Which is where that Fuelx comes into play. Without it you more than likely will cause damage to the engine (long term)
      I have zero desire to touch the sprocket size, don't see a point unless im upgrading the quality of the sprockets and chain.
      As far as the CAM goes. People say that it adds 5HP but they neglect to say whether or not it is just the Cam alone or combined with other performance mods.
      A dealer that i'm working on a sponsorship/partner with is more than willing to install the cam and test it out. He says a lot of that warranty stuff is "bullshit because majority of the dealers here in the US don't have a clue about these bikes"
      I'm not installing the cam on my own. The dealer is going to help me and is willing to allow me to document the process for the following "PRE" episode.

    Your modifications won’t be fully realized until you put in a bigger cam, and Hitchcock’s has a dyno chart for the stage two cam. It appears to give the 350 roughly the same power as the Himalayan 411. Keep in mind that you’ll be looking at horsepower at the wheel, not the crank.

There is a guy motomorten on youtube that has done the cam and before/after 0-60's and it seems very similar to your 0-60 without the cam.😕 It looked like the times were based on the speedo rather than the s/w you used.

    Fuzzy Biker from Iowa has a video of a Classic 350 that was "hot rodded" by Baxter Cycle. A cam was installed in that bike. Check it out. Obviously, for those of us here in the States who want a big single based on this platform, the best solution would be if RE would make a 500cc version of the Classic/Bullet. They could bore this very solid and dependable engine just enough to make it a bike that could, easily, get down our highways at 75+ all day long. By the way, I took demo rides on all three of the 350 variants during the Sturgis Rally and everyone of them had a speedo that was 3mph optimistic.

    Hello from Europe here, where we acctualy drive fast on our highways. So, is it American Highway capable? From what I know, the maximum speed limit on rural interstate highways is 70mph, with a 45mph minimum. On four-lane divided highways, the limit is 65mph, and on all other highways it's 55mph.
    Here in Europe, where I live, highway speed limit is 80 mph, and police tolerate 90 mph and slightly above that, especially in tourist season when we get people from all the Europe, especially coming from the German autobahn where they don't have so much limit. Buses and trucks can drive 50 - 60 mph, and I can easily drive safely on the right side of road on my Classic 350 on constant cruising speed of 55 mph.
    But yeah, Classic 350 is for back roads, for those nice roads where speed limit is lower, around 50 mph, and it has enough "juice" to tackle any problem. But I mean, come on, American Higways? Sorry mate, but you are slow as hell. :) My usual highway speed in my BMW Z4 is around 100 mph.

    • @FoxParasyte
      @FoxParasyte  6 місяців тому +1

      That's why i say it comes down to the highways you take. I can get around just fine by me but i know the roads extremely well. Taking this bike on highways in Chicago, Vegas, or California is a suicide mission.
      Most of my realistic travel doesn't exceed 80mph tops. Does it mean i stick to that on my much faster bikes... Hell no lol 😂

    I fitted the same optimiser that you have and put a 16 tooth front sprocket on it also fitted an on off switch on the ABS and she’s good for a whisker under 90 mph 0 to 60 is around 8 seconds if you short shift into 3rd then hold to 4th and again till it s showing 65 then let her wind up to top speed she be doing that in about the same time a stock bike will get to 60 ish the fuelling is indeed overseen by the ABS and is way better with the ABS switched off , plus above 60 mph you can feel the difference in the fuelling and the acceleration is much more linear and much more economical above 60 than stock hope this is helpful 👍

    I like the mods you have done and would do similiar. My question is - do the mods allow you to have enough power to get a rear sprocket with fewer teeth? This would allow lower rpms on the highway and higher speed- as long as there's enough power. Adding the windscreen to me is essential. If that's not enough I would add the cam. All along i will have an oil temp gauge. If oil temp is over 180F- it gets an oil cooler - to preserve engine life. If that isn't enough to me and if oil temp is low, I'm headed to get a higher compression piston, which wouldn't hurt gas mileage but make it better with correct gearing. I don't even have my classic 350 but I can't wait!

    I enjoyed your video. The way to address some of your issues is definitely with the performance camshaft. I’ve done a lot with my Classic 350, most of the common modifications make minor improvements, the camshaft is definitely a very noticeable step up in performance. The low speed riding of the bike is just the same lovely bike as standard. Once the revs rise you definitely feel the cam working, where the standard bike struggles, the modified bike just keeps pulling hard. It hit the top speed with ease. You can pull onto the highway and overtake cars so much easier.
    Like you I just love this little bike, the camshaft just makes my smile even bigger.

    You can twist and turn whatever upgrade about the engine, sprockets and exhaust / intake, still the fact remains it's a 20hp motor and the bike isn't getting any lighter. Changing a sprocket will give you a higher top speed at the cost of some acceleration, gearing down will give you the opposite. Going on highways is bad enough with this bike, even though you can hold it above a 100 kmh, you feel the engine reving pretty much already. Thus a 6th gear would be great here, nevertheless would the gearbox be able to take the stress? If so why didn't RE make it a 6-gear box?
    I have this bike and I've been over this a 100 times, you can tune it to death yet never become fully satisfied. That is why last week I bought the Shotgun and I'm selling my 350 Classic. The Shotgun is very similar to the 350, only with a double sized motor and a bit heavier. It'll shoot away and catch those Harleys on the highway any day ;)
    I should add that I love my Classic 350, it has given me plenty of joy and fun days for about two years, BUT, both I and my spouse are kind of 'heavy people' so the Shotgun is really what I've been waiting for.

    Run a switch from the fuse box to the handle bar and splice it into the wire under the fuse for the ABS and switch off for highway riding most of us learned to ride without ABS and the likely hood of it being of any real use at speed is slim and the safety factor of not having the rough running and clean running up to 85 mph is a no brainer for me

    I am not surprised no reputable company is making a part to fix the speedometer error an up the top speed a hair, as there is a bit of liability you would take on messing with ABS. But its a stupidly simple part to make so I am surprised no one has done it their self on youtube yet. Thought about getting one myself an would likely fix that but we dont have a local dealer in Chattanooga. Nearest is up in Knoxville. Probably would have bought one already if they had a local dealer.

    • @FoxParasyte
      @FoxParasyte  5 місяців тому +2

      From my understanding simply swapping the ECU/throttle body from the Hunter will eliminate the top speed limiter.

    • @RebelCowboysRVs
      @RebelCowboysRVs 5 місяців тому

      @@FoxParasyte Assuming that is true, I assume thats a pricey option. $200+? Also what does that do to the speedometer error and ABS? You would be putting a ECU programmed for a front tire size of a 17 inch rim on a bike with a 19 inch rim. If my math is correct, that flips the speedometer error, which would also kill the limiter problem too. I dont think 10% would be an issue with the ABS, but...
      An ABS tone ring with one less hole in it though, should fix the error an give you that difference in speed for about $30 US, if someone made one. At least in the US, 70-75mph is common interstate speed. A $30 part that gets you a real 75mph is all you need. Thats about a 5% change for the ABS to deal with too, not 10%.
      But I may be wrong to assume the ECU even has anything to do with ABS an the Speedometer. That could be handled elsewhere with the ECU just using the down stream data. I dont have the bike to look at myself.
