And doesn't like store bought plant food. I put banana peel in water for two days and use that water as plant food once a month (each month fresh water and banana peel). Also I use eggshell powder.
I am so glad Oliver is better. I know how scary it can be. I personally have asthma. My husband always knew I had asthma but never seen a asthma attack. A couple years ago I had one. He was so scared, he never takes it for granted now. As a mom I can imagine your worries. May god bless your family always.
Thanks for sharing! So glad to hear your child and family are all okay now. Just a suggestion when doing a seasonal or deep clean…try using my rule of “above, underneath, & behind” tip. This means when cleaning try to look and move items accordingly so you can clean above them (ceiling fans, crown molding, photo frames, light fixtures, vents, windows, etc), underneath and behind them (move beds, dressers, other furniture, rugs, baseboards, etc) to get the most over looked dirt/ germs out. Cleaning near our beds or other places we sleep/rest our heads (couches, etc) can help to minimize allergic reactions even if they are seasonal allergies because we are breathing them in as we sleep/ rest. It’s another reason why some allergy specialists will say close off the bedrooms or even certain other spaces to pets (do not allow them to enter those areas) to help minimize the spread of germs or pet dander, etc so those spaces are “allergy safe zones”. I’m definitely not saying any of that caused the trip to the ER for your family. I’m just suggesting a cleaning/ sanitization tip. Good luck, keep up the good work, and happy Fall!🙂🎃
When I clean I like to put a movie on in the background that I’ve seen many times as well lol something comforting, you don’t have to pay a lot of attention to, just background noise :) Also, I have two boys as well who have a hard time remembering to flush the toilet lol ** I’m so glad Oliver is ok, how scary!

I so so feel your stress with asthma. I am glad to hear you have everything you need. My 18 month old has severe asthma. He’s been in the hospital 3 times since June. This last time he had RSV, upon arrival he was in acute respiratory failure with hypoxia 😔 even pressurized oxygen with albuterol wasn’t helping and they had to put him on a bipap machine for a while, it was terrifying. He was in the ICU for a few days and then a floor room for a few more days. Luckily, he will now be a part of the Children’s Mercy AAIR (Advanced Asthma Interdisciplinary Respiratory) Clinic and they upped his daily steroid inhaler. I have grown up with asthma, but it’s sooo different when it’s your child. I hope your kiddo doesn’t have anymore attacks.
Ahhhhhhhh yes, plant parenting!! Such a messy job, but it's worth it. PLEASE tell me that you don't talk to your plants, too! My neighbor does, and it's always entertaining! Her yard and plants always look so good! AND, DO NOT let your pets (cats especially) get anywhere near those peace lilies - poisonous +++++!!! I have a goo friend who is a master gardener, and he has cats, too, and he told me that if you have cats - No to peace lilies! Also, I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver's asthma! I have horrible vertigo, so I get it! SO thankful he's better! Macaroni and cheese will cure everything!! LOL!!! Loved this video!

I’ve had asthma since I was 2 years old….I’m 41 now😁 A couple suggested asthma medications to prevent attacks in the future. Of course ask the doc and do your research😁 1. Advair HFA Inhaler - start with a low dosage to see how his body responds. They have 45/21 and 115/21, there may be more, I’m not sure. I started with the 115/21 and that didn’t work for me, so my doc bumped it up to 230/21….. I have a life now, a true life saver. 2. Breo Ellipta (100 mcg/25mcg inhalation powder) - this is another life saver of mine when my insurance didn’t cover Advair. As you can see I’m EXTREMELY passionate and sensitive about asthma. I wouldn’t wish this on my worse enemy.

Oh Rachel do I know about visits to the ER due to asthma attacks. My daughter started having asthma attacks when she 2 1/2 years old ( she's now 37) and we were frequent fliers until we got a nebulizer machine and started her on meds. I can imagine the fear you had. Glad he's OK and you have the nebulizer machine. I love the fall so much for all the cozy decorative things you can do to the house. Plus cooking stews and roasts. Your homestead always looks beautiful and you've inspired me to start cleaning.

You are planting your plants a bit too deep in the pot and the soil . Also when you add rocks on top it pushes the plant down even further into the soil. Add more potting mix higher up and then plants can sit higher in the pot. It also has better air circulation.
Hi. I like how you transitioned the home. Here in South Africa, we don't do this. Our house interiors stay the same except over Christmas. That's the only time our houses change with things like decorations but not seasonal.
The candles (artificial fragrances - VOCs) are really really bad for asthma. I mean they are really toxic for all of us but especially for those who already have respiratory issues. Diffusers with essential oils smell amazing and can actually help with breathing issues Becca Bistrow has an amazing video on artificial fragrances & what all they do to our endocrine and respiratory system they can even change a persons heartbeat 😬😬

Those hanging plants are beautiful! They had a ton of roots and I’m pretty sure the problem was they need bigger pots. And It was definitely a good idea to put the peace lilies together in the big pot, since it was probably struggling a bit to really establish itself with all the extra space. And the rocks are a perfect natural touch :)

Wow your room brought my childhood back! My brother is asthmatic and when he would have an asthma attack we would do the same and bring a mattress to my parents room and sleep with them (I've been a coward since forever so I wasn't about to sleep alone)
