I think there should have been a road only test too. I've found there to be a fairly significant difference on the road as one would expect. The game's stats show a pretty huge difference in cornering G too which is mostly backed up by my experience. However a combination of the offroad tires doing incredibly well offroad (as one would expect) and the incredibly small PI change of offroad tires makes them, in my opinion, frankly unbalanced. So even though I feel rally does better on the road than described here I also favour offroad tires more than described here due to the huge PI difference. I mentally view rally tires as a specialised road tire rather than an offroad tire due to the PI advantage and the performance of rally tire on road. Of course I've not found many situations with enough of a mix to warrant rally tires over offroad or road specific tires to matter anyway. I'd also be very interested in how road vs rally tires fare in wet conditions (and to an extent dry) for road specific courses, though that is obviously beyond the scope of this video.

Not necessarily, I just raced agaisnt someone using full race slicks on a dirt track at S1 class. He dominated everything, never even had to touch the brakes, literally full throttle the entire time and never broke traction once.

Sometimes like you said in more poweful cars rally still do the job but looks like offroad ones are the way to go. What i don't like is how bulky they are and because of that they don't look that good on normal cars like they do on trucks and pickups..
I set a top 3 global time in a dirt race in a jesko using off-road tires. Then, I switched to rally tires thinking they would actually help me. They helped on the tarmac at the start to launch off the line and it helped a lot on the first and second turns on tarmac but once it got into the dirt, they were extremely slidey and impossible to get close to my time.
I will say the off-road tire suffers in tarmac handling as compared to the rally tires, but with a car in A class you don’t really go fast enough to make much difference
Funny, I just did a buncha tests exactly like these and went looking to see if anyone found the same results. Rally tires are, frankly, useless in comparison to off-roads. OR's arnt that much worse than rally on tarmac, but are SO much more dominant off of it. Combine this with the PI the off-roads save and actually using that and I've found that unless the track your on is 80%+ tarmac, the Rally tires arnt even competitive. Even with 50/50, even if the street portion is technical, if theres **any** handling consideration on the dirt, OR's blow rally away. I consistently am 1-3 seconds faster on basically every one of the 10 tracks I tried. Basically, my conclusion is Rally is for street cars that couldnt afford semi slicks.
I was using rally tires for my B and A class builds trusting the PI grip increase in the numbers but now I can see that off-road tires and a little more PI to increased power or reduce weight will be the way to go. Thank you so much for the video! If you can test other PI categories will be awesome to watch! Have a great day buddy!
I can confirm your results. The offroad compound still works very well on tarmac, at least for my awd BMW 1M A-Class car. Super versatile, very fast both in offroad and rally races online, even fast enough in road races against the ai.
I feel like the Rally Tire is supposed to be more of a mixed surface tire. A jack of all trades master of none situation. Rally races in real life take place on mixed surfaces with a good amount of tarmac and gravel. The Offroad tires on the other hand should be used if you plan on NOT being on tarmac, or at least very little. Another thing to note is the ACTUAL rally cars in game (#34 Beetle, 207 Peugot, Civic Coupe, etc) have there own tires that, apparently, have more grip than the rally tires upgrade. might be worth looking into
For sure. I have not been using the rally tires for anything at all that touches dirt honestly. They are just too slidy and lack the lateral grip that the offroad tires have. As for the BF Goodrich and Toyo "Rally" compounds, they are pretty damn good overall, but from my tests, the offroad tires still have better grip offroad! It's wild. Makes building and tuning a bit more fun!
Even more, I "discovered" the stock tires on the Peugeot 207 for tarmac. I had been running Slicks and experimented with the Stock tires. I saw no appreciable difference in its fabulous performance. The Slicks came off, and the PI difference allowed me to bring the power way up. It is now an absolute terror on pavement in addition to rally with the same tires. The handling on stock tires is amazing.

I'm probably not gonna watch this(I say this politely. I'm sure your videos are great but I'm just video surfing and commenting) but I'll toss in my two cents.
Off road grips dirt trails and off road like tarmac while rally has a bit more slicker feel, you can drift using those while offroad is just pure grip when off road.
Thanks for stopping by! But my tests proved that the offroad tires were all-around faster!
"Infamous rally tires"??
Very infamous
@@ConnerSpeed6 do people really dislike them that much?
@@fin3662 in FH5, YES! They are only used for road racing 🤣
@@ConnerSpeed6 damn, thats kinda disappointing, thank you though
So basically, offroad for mostly dirt. Rally for mostly paved.
I mean. If it's 50/50 dirt/road, I am still fitting offroad tires!
Great.. they f* it up. First Offroad should have much less grip on street abs second they should have the same index point.. sadly there is nothing to do for the better looking rally tire because they steal 25 index points from your car.
Yeah, for sure. Sadly this is the way!
I feel like ofroad tires should add more pi points than the rally compound since they improve the ofroad stat so much
@@0wly they definitely don't!
Plot twist: snow tires are 2s quicker
Oh snap. Have you tested? I am online testing now!
Forza Horizon 5 is so realistic
Cool!!
#EngagementGang
Thank you!
I know the winner
pshh... Yeah right
rally tires for me have no grip
Same. Messed up, right?!
Offroad tires ruin the aesthetics for rally cars :(
Very ugly indeed. But much better for rally racing 😕
Mexico is by far the worst Horizon environment yet.
I've never seen a more wrong statement
@@ConnerSpeed6 Strokes for folks. Looks amazing but plays like crap for me. Just not feeling it.
I seem to gravitate toward the rally parts of this game more and almost all my cars have rally tires. Rally tires do well as street tires too and cost less pi. Basically, most of my cars are competitive in every event. I have set rules for builds too. 1 tire width and stance upgrade per class upgrade. Tuning makes a world of difference but isn’t for impatient players. I spend more time tuning that driving now
I do too! LOLOL!
@@ConnerSpeed6 if you wanna save some time and enjoy PLAYING the game again I would recommend the ForzaTune pro app. You put in the cars weight, torque, etc. and it gives you the ideal tuning adjustments for that car with the upgrades chosen. I swore to myself I would not tune this time around but nope! It’s like drugs I swear, smoke a little weed and you aren’t a drug addict, smoke crack once and you might have a problem, that’s how I feel about forza when comparing just building cars and playing to tuning cars lol
@@MrDickhead47 Thanks for the mention!
