The Death of Spiderman is a damn gauntlet Peter has to run. He gets saved by his loved ones multiple times, with MJ running Green Goblin over with a truck and aunt May straight up shooting Electro dead. Peter's last words are "I did it. I saved everyone" and he passes on with a smile.
It's an amazing mix of tragedy and epicness

10:16 the wrestling was in the original. It was a couple of panels before the robbery. Also fun fact, an issue or 2 later, Peter tried to get the money from that wrestling gig, but had to turn it down because he had to reveal his identity.

So just so you know, Miles Morales isn't actually originally from the same universe as the mainline Peter Parker was from the comics. He first appeared in the Ultimate line in Marvel comics 2011. In the comics, Miles' universe known as Earth-1610 or the Ultimate Marvel Universe, is a separate continuity from the main Marvel Universe which is known as Earth-616. The Ultimate Universe was created in the early 2000's and kind of served as a starting point for new comic reders who may have found it difficult to get into marvel comics considering their decades of pre existing material and lasted until the early 2010's until they decided to move on from it. The Ultimate Spider-Man run by Brian Michael Bendis was the biggest success of the Ultimate universe and all the way from the year 2000 until 2011 that version of Peter Parker was killed heroically and had a complete arc (and was later brought back which was a mistake). Brian Michael Bendis who was the main writer of Ultimate Spider-Man created Miles to explore the idea of someone from a different background taking on the role of Spider-Man, although admittedly the writing on the character took a few years before he had a distinct identity. However, after the destruction of the Ultimate Marvel Universe in the 2015 version of the "Secret Wars" storyline, the Marvel Multiverse was destroyed, as multiple fragmented universes have merged into a planet called Battleworld ruled by Doctor Doom. During that event Miles was brought over to the main Marvel Universe and became an permanent member of Earth-616, although he still remembered his previous universe.

I feel like I'm the opposite actually.
I loved Miles, despite his flaws, initially because he existed in his own universe. Where he had a legacy to live up to, and had to prove himself to be as good or better than his Peter.
Nowadays, Miles just feels redundant. He's in the main universe now, he doesn't remember his Peter, and is now Spider-Man at the same time as 616 Peter. He just exists to be another Spider-Man I guess, which is just kinda boring? He doesn't have anything to prove anymore, he isn't trying to live up a legacy. He's just another Spider-Man in a universe filled with way too many Spider-people.
It'd be like if you took Batman Beyond, and pulled him into the present DC universe. Now Terry is just Batman at the same time as Bruce in his prime. What's the fun in that? What's the point? You're just doing someone with the same name again, just with a *slightly* different personality, there's not interesting takes on existing characters or their legacy.

  • @runbaa9285
    @runbaa9285 27 днів тому +32

It really took Miles a while before he gets his own character traits. For the first few issues he appeared in, a large part of his character was mostly a retread of Peter's. It felt somewhat redundant. It wasn't until a while in that Miles started developing his own unique traits, which then gets expanded even more in the Spider-Verse movie. The Spider-Verse movies really, and I mean, REALLY cemented Miles' current personality in the comics. It wouldn't even be wrong to say that a large part of how Miles is currently portrayed in the comics uses the Spider-Verse movies as a template and source material.

The mission statement is basically, what if Peter Parker became Spider-Man in his mid-30’s after he’s already married and has kids? It’s completely disconnected from everything and only a few issues in. I’d highly recommend it

    Here's what's going on now!
After Slott finally ended his 10 year run on Spidey, Nick Spencer took the reigns and took Peter back to his more 80's character writing and GOT BACK WITH MJ! It even established Mephisto took his marriage because Peter and MJ's daughter will grow up to defeat him for good and he wants to prevent that. Spencer ends his run and Zeb Wells takes over where he turns Ben Reilly evil, splits MJ and Peter up and she dates some dickwad named Paul, and has Ms Marvel die after barely establishing her new job at Oscorp so she can revive as a Mutant. But we have a new Ultimate Spider-man series that's doing well and is about an adult Peter married with children to MJ becoming Spidey for the first time.

It's funny that the intention with the Ultimate Universe originally was to give us a universe free of continuity but now with the relaunch of the new Ultimate Spider-Man, despite it being a fantastic series, it's HINGED on the continuity. From knowing who the Maker is, to needing to know he controls this new world and that it's run by a secret cabal of world leaders, and what happened to the old Ultimate Universe to motivate the Maker to make this new universe

Ultimate Spider-man was my first dive into Spider-Man even before Sam Raimi movies. This series also has a pretty good game that I advise to play to get a taste of this unierse of Spider-man (not on PC though, emulate it or play on PS2.).
Also, neither this video or the game will explain the actual differences between OG and this universe's characters and their origins, so I'm gonna explain the Venom bit and that bit about Gwen that you were shocked about. But if you don't want to read the poilers, I'm gonna mark when I'll start them.
In any case, I like initial Ultimate Spider-man and it's influence is seen in all Spider-man adaptations on the screen.

    - So, the Venom bit. Venom here is not an alien organism here. Venom was the Cancer Treatment Suit made by Peter's and Eddie Brock's fathers, which was then stolen by Bolivar Trusk's company and ruining the careers of the creators. So due to this partnership, Eddie and Peter were childhood friends. Eddie found this project and showed it to Peter (also gave half of it to curt Connors, basically creating test and control groups), disgusted by how Trusk robbed their families, Peter went into the lab to take the sample and the suit engulfed him, this creating the Black Spider-Suit. But this didn't last long when an armed robber shot a man, Peter was reminded of the death of Uncle Ben and lost control of the suit, transforming into a monster and nearly devouring the robber. Struggling to free himself of the Suit, he accidentally leapt into some electric cables, destroying the Suit but leaving trace remnants in his bloodstream. Peter returned to ESU intent on destroying the rest of the Venom Suit, where he was confronted by Eddie, who had seen him as Black Suit Spider-Man. Peter revealed his identity and told Eddie what had transpired, taking the Venom Suit and disposing of it in an industrial furnace. Embittered, Eddie returned to the lab and took the flask containing the control sample of the Venom Suit from storage, deliberately exposing himself, turning him into the Venom. And Venom in here for most of it's time is almost formless black with purple highlights mass with gaping maw, long tongue and white formless eyes. Venom also has the ability of devouring human beings and digest them in the matter of seconds (clothes, bones, everything disappears without a trace inside Venom once consumed), and this has to be constant, otherwise Eddie will then be fed upon. This conflict is at the center of the Ultimate Spider-Man game.
    - Now, onto Gwen. When Curt Connors found out Peter is SPider-man, he offered the help to him. After one battle, Connors patched him, but this left a it of sample of Peters blood, which Connors was curious to experiment with. He also discovered the symbiote tht was created by Peter's and Eddie's fathers and mixed the blood sample with the suit and i belive the lizard serum (?). After a month of experimentation, this resulted in a black and red mass in a form of the fetus, whcih escaped and started consuming eeryone in it's way. After growing, it started to get Peter's memories and found it's way to Peter's house and just as the video said, Gwen appearedthere, at the wrong place and the wrong time. The form, that resembles Carnage (basically IS Carnage in this universe) grabs gwen and slowly drains her, leaving only this empty husk of a once living teenager girl. But to Carnage it was enough to shape itself after Richard Parker, Peter's father, not fully though. And both Carnage and Peter after a certain amount of time after Gwen's death understood that it needs Peter to be whole. And after the fight in the industrial part of town, Carnage was incenerated.
Well, that's that. I maybe oersimplified some some things, but these as it is already big amounts of information.

At the same time Spider-Man 4 was also cancelled, Spectacular Spider-Man was cancelled and replaced by the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon and Spider-Man was fading in relevance as the MCU was reaching new heights.
Seriously, I remember that time really well, it was a terrible time to be a Spider-Man fan. The character had seemingly been one of the top franchises of all time in the 2000's, but in the early 2010's it was just completely sinking.
I have my own issues with the current era of Spider-Man, but at least it's consistently performing well and generally liked by most people. It's a whole different world compared to 10 years ago.

Ultimate Spider-Man is almost like modern comic books in a nutshell. The first 100-or-so issues are incredible, actually some of the best comic books I've ever read, and I would recommend them to anyone, even if you don't read comics. It's a perfect start, easy to pick up and read, no continuity, chronological order, great art/writing. Perfect.
Then after the first 100 issues, the story starts to stagnate, the art gets way worse and the continuity gets very hard to follow. Even when they reset it with Miles, it just doesn't feel the same as it did initially, it doesn't have the same magic. By the end of it, it was basically just the same as the main Marvel continuity, with all the same problems they were trying to get away from in the first place. Bloated events, convoluted continuity, hard to follow reading order, bad writing, recycling of old ideas etc.
But in spite of all that, it doesn't take away from that initial run by Bendis/Bagley, which is so great in spite of it. I'll always go back and re-read them, because they hold up so well on their own.
You can tell this because seemingly every piece of modern Spider-Man media borrows *heavily* from early Ultimate. From the Raimi movies, to the Andrew Garfield movies, to Spider-Verse, MCU, all of them are indebted to Ultimate in someway, in some cases even more than the original comics.

The Miles that everyone loves literally just _did not exist_ until the Spider-Verse movie, comic Miles is essentially a different character, same name different guy, and inferior in basically every way to the GOAT movie Miles.
In the current comics, after Miles was thrown into the main universe, he's been thrown around aimlessly with superficial shit done to "make him more interesting", even after the movie showed them what they should have been doing with him.
Stuff like giving him an energy sword and energy webs, shit Parker never needed to be interesting, generic superhero energy powers are sort of the antithesis to Spider-Man's kind of groundedness. (For Spidey himself, the villains can be more out there with their powers.)

Ultimate Spiderman comic run was a game-changing, fresh take on Spiderman that reinvigorated interest in the character, coupled with the massive popularity of Raimi Spiderman films in the early 2000s. The Ultimate Marvel Universe, in general, was an attempt by Marvel Comics to reboot the franchise to simplify storylines, for better and worse. Ultimate Spiderman comics are probably the only Ultimate comics I actually liked since the majority of other Ultimate Marvel comics, such as The Ultimates (aka this universe version of the Avengers), Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate Daredevil, etc... were all pretty lacklustre reinventions of classic characters that became a lot more cynical, edgy, rude characters that frankly made the Ultimate Universe feel less coherent, less whimsical and downright more interestingly grim than it needed to be, especially since this took place in the early 2000s where everyone was obsessed with black leather and almost felt embarrassed by the comics. Ultimate Spiderman was one of the only comics with the original character's heart and spirit while telling its own unique story and depiction of Peter Parker and his mythos. It gave us original characters like Miles Morales, who has now become a household name and one of my favourite superheroes, too.
By the way, I remember you saying that you wanted to learn more about the Fantastic Four in one video, so I'd highly recommend this wonderful video by @B-Mask. It is a complete retrospective about the Fantastic Four's history, what makes them Marvel's First Family, and why they are one of the most important and, dare I say, fantastic superhero teams.

Hell yeah I'd watch you play the old Spider-Man games. I constantly played a few of them myself, they were always fun. The Spider-Man 3 movie tie-in game was awesome, but those quick time events were killer (especially for a 7-8 year old).
I also played the Ultimate Spider-Man game on PS2, but it was in a separate house, so I never got to finish it, but I know how it ends. It was pretty good, a great introduction to the Ultimate universe, and I think the first game where you can play as Venom.
Shattered Dimensions was so cool, I replayed it a bunch! My first introduction to Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Man 2099. Fun fact - the voice actors they used for each spider-man had voiced them in a TV cartoon before! Neil Patrick Harris from "Spider-Man: The New Animated Series", Christopher Daniel Barnes from the 90's Spider-Man cartoon (he also voiced Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid), Josh Keaton from "The Spectacular Spider-Man", and Dan Gilvezan from "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends" (1981). But anyways, the game was a great hack-and-slash and it showed off classic villains with a twist from each respective dimension.
Edge of Time is a bit of a soft sequel to Shattered Dimensions, focusing on present Spider-Man and 2099, as they try to work together in an effort to save Time. It is also good, but I would say I prefer Shattered Dimensions.

Can you watch some of the "Mortal Kombat Legends"? It's animated and way brutal than than the early 'Live-Action' movies. And I think you'll like them, at least.

In Spider-Man's current run MJ is trapped in another dimension and Spider-Man rescues her but in the dimension where MJ was trapped time moves faster and she has already formed a family with a guy named Paul (Which is an author's self-insertion) and Spider-Man does not understand that MJ had to move on and behaves like a teenager(like the author when he divorced his wife), also by Kevin Feige's orders they killed Ms. Marvel so that she would be reincarnated into a mutant and be more similar to the one in the MCU

I love miles morales, But to me he only really worked when he was in a universe were Peter Parker is dead. Having two spider-men in the same city is confusing. Not to mention undoing a lot of the deaths that defined him and his morality and resolve to be Spider-Man. There is also the problem of there being too many spider people in general really.

I disagree with you completely about 'Superior' Spiderman. Once again, the people that write the books show us that they don't even like the character and would rather be writing something else, which is why they wrote a Doc Oc story instead.

The current Spider-Man comics have been bad since 2008 man, the only way to get good Spider-Man comics is to read the NON mainline series, like the new Ultimate Spider-Man reboot. Read it while it's good before the higher ups ruin it too!
