I spent 24 Hours in Portland, Oregon

- Portland, Oregon is an amazingly diverse city with a BIG personality. It's been the center of a lot of slanderous propaganda in the media as of late as we've dealt with severe homelessness, drug problems, and many intense riots during the Police Brutality Movements. Portland is an awesome place to live as there is so much today in the outdoors and hikes, we have the Oregon Coast just over an hour's drive away, and we have Multnomah Falls 45 minutes east just the beautiful Willamette River running through town. If you are in town you have your pick of breweries, coffee shops, and bookstores (Powell's is the most well-known) you have weird and strange stores throughout, great doughnut shops (don't go to Voodoo Doughnuts), amazing food carts, great views of Mt. Hood from Pittock Mansion, and St. Johns Bridge, and it's just a great Oregon city. It's tough to see the slander, but I hope that I can make some videos that shine a light on how cool this city can be. It's very LGBTQ+ friendly and a great city for all types of people.
I wish it was more diverse, I wish there was less crime, and I wish the city could return to its old identity, and I hope to be a voice for the city, Love you Portland.

I feel as if a lot of times portland gets overdone in the media and on social media, if you just stay off specific streets, it is an amazing place.
I completely agree - it’s become a punching bag, and that’s not to say there are problems, that’s for sure. But I’m a believer it will get better, it’s the crime & homelessness that are major problems. But yes, there are areas that are amazing here, the city is great but I feel like it’s more the location of the city so close to a ton of nature, mountains, lakes, rivers, beaches etc. anyway… I’m ranting now haha, thanks for watching and the comment ✌️
Great overview! Sorry the mountain wasn't out ⛰ Really happy you featured the Japanese Garden.
Woah Rick, it's been awhile! I was with onTheGo with Ryan F, before they got acquired haha, small world - glad we got to cross paths again, thanks for the kind comment, and hope innovation scene here is going well!
@@JacksonMeyer Ha! Yeah for sure. Small world indeed 😂
Omg I’ve been obsesssed with Portland forever. I need to make it out there. But I’m broke in NYC right now. Thanks for doing this. Y’all are my people.
Haha no problem, glad you enjoyed it and got to live vicariously through me ;) I e got a Top 10 waterfalls in Oregon Video Coning this fall as well as some more Portland videos. Would love to see you in the comments of my future viddies 😜

You're gonna take a long flight to be disappointed. Portland has very few redeeming qualities. It's a largely vacant city with bad food and clueless people. Yes I said it and I meant it. Portlands food scene is gutter level. The only people who actually think Portland has great food are either lying bc they have some skin in the game or they simply don't know any better. Their beer and weed are really good though- they do those things very well. Their coffee is also good. Coming from NYC (if you are from NYC area) you will likely be disappointed. The city is close to some very beautiful forests and Mt Hood is awesome.
It's not propaganda if it's true. I live here, I aint leaving, but there are SERIOUS problems here. Of course you can drive out of the city and be in some of the most beautiful nature in the United States, however Portland as a city is pretty broken right now.
Yup - 10 years ago it was a totally different city. And I agree, massive problems that need a massive solution. The crime & homelessness are my biggest things that need fixed - but the nature is unreal 🌊🌲 🏔️
@@JacksonMeyer it's really what keeps me here. I don't like doing things with crowds or lines at all. But a 1h drive with 4wd and it's pure magic every direction! I've lived here all my life.
That “ramen” looks good lol 😂glad it was good! We love checking out food trucks on our trips! The Japanese gardens look so nice!
-Candice, Andrew, and Riley 🐾
Haha we were talking with the lady so much, we got distracted and didn’t realize the crispy chicken was like katsu and not crispy chicken on ramen 😜 both plates were awesome!
Hey let's visit Portland to go to a book store and ignore the drug use
Would you really watch the video: “24 hours in Portland, check out the drug use?” …People are aware of the problems here and I’m choosing to live a happy life rather than be consumed by negativity surrounding it. I try to assume positive intent… especially when commenting on other peoples content. Hope you are well.
That’s such a reductive thing to say, a city is more than it’s issues. Every major city in America has problems with drugs and homelessness. But there’s much more to a city then what the media pushes.
@@JacksonMeyerexcellent response. I love Biden too
The problems are definitely there, and notably downtown and in old town/Chinatown areas. After visiting multiple times recently, yes the homelessness is a huge problem but the city is amazing and so many neighborhoods haven’t changed drastically in the last 6-7 years like the downtown area has. Most people who slander Portland either don’t leave the downtown area while there or have never lived in a major city before.
@@JacksonMeyeryou should have so least mentioned the problem for those who don't know.
Hey I've been living here for 12 years and thanks for showing people this place is not a wasteland. I really miss our town. And I know it's still here, we gotta get our quirky shit hole back. Thank you again
This is the type of comment I appreciate: Honest. It's identity has sort of been lost, and I miss it too - it's definitely still there but there is a giant shadow on it due to what I believe to be the main 3 interrelated factors: Crime, Drugs, Homelessness. Just so you know, I am excited to make way more Portland Content in the next year. I'm backlogged with a Europe Trip and Oregon in General, but people need to see our Quirky city in positive light.
I just spent a week there for vacation (first visit) and I fell in love with the place. Can't wait to go back and even considering what a move out there someday would look like. Yes, Portland has big city problems but we didn't have any experiences that made us feel unsafe. We stayed in Beaverton and found it to be a cozy place.
Spoiler guys I was homeless here with my wife for about ten years. We ran a small cleaning company, but had a bad combo of events happen in short succession. Now I've been off the streets about two years and since then things are scary different amongst the homeless. Some of the best, just honest real people I knew were homeless heroin addicts that literally gave you the clothes of their backs while keeping you from withdrawal. See fentanyl wasn't just gradually introduced to us. See one day there were junkies, and tweakers. Then the next day there was no longer heroin. It was literally gone. Finding anything but fentanyl and fentanyl laced drugs is literally not possible. I don't like the way it makes people act. Imagine the intense addictive qualities of crack cocaine but now physical withdrawal is coming for you. B now I know crack is addictive but a few days sleep and a turkey sandwich will fix that. Opiate withdrawal can last months. So crack with withdrawal and fetty does not fix pain. See I was apart of over prescription doctor's on my late teens until my early thirties. Oxycodone, heroin help pain. Fentanyl puts you to sleep occasionally permanently. Sorry to go on a tangent but things here are different. The cartels from Mexico left overnight and Honduras cartels took over. A year ago you didn't see a hondorin dealer EVER. NOW THERE ARE OVER 50 a day in the dt areas. I miss Portland, v hell I miss the old street way. These angry, addicts forget death is permanent.
Thanks for these comments. I lived in Portland 10 years ago and have always missed it but the current reputation is so bad. Great to hear these positive perspectives.
Thanks! I learned some new things today!
Thanks Jenny - Awesome! I appreciate your comment and you watching, I really do - It really means a lot to me, have a great day!
I love portland and oregon
I always enjoy the view sites and drives n different local businesses
When I go out- I don’t see a ton of the drama and trash. It’s not everywhere
Thanks for the comment - it’s hard because 10 years ago it was a different city than it is now, there is plenty to do see and explore, it’s just it’s identity has changed a bit, and we have to adapt. Still so much character here!!
Love that you showcased some of the positives instead of emphasizing the depressing parts. It’s not like anyone isn’t already aware of our drawbacks. , which this place is truly much more. But it is really a shame that most tourists come here and focus on Downtown, which is easily the most culturally devoid region of Portland. The desirable areas of northeast and southeast Portland are where you wanna be to get a good taste of Portland culture and more unique attractions
Real dope that you checked out Forest Park though. That was my backyard for 4-5 years and is so gorgeous. Levels of green like I’ve never seen in my life. Check out Laurelhurst Park and Mt. Tabor Park next time you’re here!
Oops. Just now seeing that you stayed near Tabor and have friends here, meaning that you’ve probably been to the places that I mentioned. I hope you showcased some of them during some of your other visits!
Hahahahaha I clicked on your profile and now see that you’re based out of here. Wow, oops! Just finished this vid and the vibes were supreme throughout. Subbed 👍
I appreciate the sub!!
Ayyyyy I appreciate it, really do. I tried to be intentional showing a really fun day in Portland, the reality is we have a drug and homelessness problem, but I can’t dwell on that, I gotta just keep on livin’ man! Thanks again for the comment and subscribing, very much appreciated
I highly recommend a historic, indie 🤓 theater like “Hollywood”
I’d like to check out this city sometime. I live in salt lake city and the cities seem kind of similar. Got a large housing issue here as well which sucks but I’ll have to check Portland out sometime!
Yup -housing issues abound in many cities these days, it’s multi-factorial, but I try not to dwell on it, there are some amazing spots in Portland and surrounding areas. I have a waterfall videos coming up that I am pumped about, subscribe to stay in the loop ☺️
I've lived in both cities, and while there are some similarities, they are very different. Salt Lake has huge blocks and wide streets, Portland has tiny blocks and a lot of narrow one-way streets. Portland gets all 4 seasons, but by SLC standards, only Spring and Fall. Portland gets about 4 inches of snow in a normal year, Salt Lake can easily get 4 feet. Portland is the strip club and microbrewery capitol of the world, Salt Lake is the world headquarters for the LDS church, etc, etc.
love it! thanks for posting !
My pleasure! I'm really glad you enjoyed it - lots more coming soon, just got back form a 2 week Europe trip :)
Portland is not really diverse if you've lived in a bigger city. It's only diverse if you're coming from the middle of nowhere. I guess it's all perspective.
I agree with you completely, I don't recall exactly what I said... but when people use the word 'diverse' I think people immediately think that it's referring to people's race, where I feel like I use it in my daily vernacular to describe really anything that has variety. Like, Portland has diverse landscapes, food options, politics, etc... I think that's where I was headed, becuase true, it's not the most racially diverse city.
100% . Portland is a very boring and very bare bones city with a ton of homeless camps and open air hard drug use. The enthusiasts are 100% clueless and its kind of hilarious and also kind of sad.
The only thing good about Portland is its proximity to Mt. Hood. Anyone from an actual city would be very disappointed with Portland.
Lovely fun day in Portland😮
ahhhh summer days, it was fun
Cool looking AirBNB. If I was hosting an AirBNB with a loft, I think stairs would be better in my opinion:)
I can see that for sure! It’s a super cool stay and the space is well used with just the ladder
Food carts as you know them are not classic Portland, they're post 90's, classic Portland is pre cali and east coast invasions, you know, pre gentrification.
Us older Native Portlanders will never call it the moda, it is the Rose Garden.
Yup, they are newer, but doesn't make them any less of a 'food cart', they are delicious. And I remember going to shows at the Rose garden as a kid, but it's now Moda - call it what you like though, people will know what you mean. Thanks for the comment
Os seus vídeos são muito bons. Continue a gravar. Meu sonho é conhecer Portland 💜 Abraços do Brasil para você!!!!
uau!
Come up to the mississippi ave area some time!
Ayyyy my cousin lives over there, love Mississippi Ave!
Voodoo donuts IS overrated! At least you got THAT right.
haha, that is one of my strongest convictions of Portland!! Also, are you insinuating that I got other things wrong? As far as I remember, I just documented my day and shared my experience and opinions, I don't know what I could have gotten wrong, enlighten me please ;)
Didn't mean to give that impression. It's just that Voodoo donuts is one of my pet peeves. Thx. For the ❤
good vibe 😍😍
I appreciate that! Thanks so much for the nice comment 🌊🌲✌️
I want to move by the end of 2025 to Oregon.
That’s awesome, Oregon is amazing. It has problems like everywhere though, it’s not perfect. Have you thought about moving overseas? That’s what I’m eyeing
I went to Portland cuz the flights to San Francisco got too expensive. Portland Oregon was full of tourists and lines to popular events and restaurants. Friday was quiet but the weekend brought a lot of people out.
Good! I hope you enjoyed it 👍
Enjoying the content! As a woman, I’d love to see more of what Megan has to say - you two are so cute!
That is so kind of you, and trust me as her husband, I'd like to hear more from Megan as well, she's still getting used to the camera and we are figuring out what we want to do as a couple on UA-cam ;) Thank you for the support, subscribing, liking and this comment, it really does mean a lot and I'll try to feature her little quips more for you
Love you too ❤
😂😂😂 Love you bro 😘
If you want to report about Portland Oregon,if you get your rocks off on it, then,by all means, handle your business, but how can it sit right with you knowing rent is triple price in Portland
@@JohnTurner-cg1gc just because I know this conversation won’t be productive… thank you for the comment, I love living here, (I’d rather be travelling Europe full-time), my rent/lease has increased 24% since May 2024…this seems reasonable to me - I’m not much of a complainer, seems like most of USA is these days. Thanks for watching
Cheers man
Cheers! Thanks for watching I appreciate it! Hopefully more videos will be up shortly ;)
I was actually in Portland last week and went to Powell's for the first time and I was amazed buy the amount of books. And like you, I don't really like reading.
Very cool! Yeah, it's honestly so impressive - like, I feel like I could spend an entire day in there. Thanks for the comment and checking out the channel. Lots of Oregon content coming after Europe :)
@@JacksonMeyer yeah, you're welcome. I've actually been watching you for a while now, my name used to be FaceTheOdds if you remember me.
Used to live there back in it’s prime. Now it’s very dangerous, run down, boarded up, and a lot of businesses are closed. You didn’t show the fentanyl people everywhere or the garbage and bum camps everywhere, so I’m wondering who, if anyone sponsored your trip and why. Portland is a NIGHTMARE now. All the contractors I know ask for double pay to even work there, and many won’t even do that. Can’t pay people to work there even😔
Thanks for the comment - nobody sponsored my trip… since I live here, this was just a few Saturdays ago. Yes, it’s true there are issues - and both stories are worth telling, but today I didn’t see any of that story… so I told this one. I’ll make more videos and we’ll likely see the drug, crime, homeless problems and we’ll talk about it, but for now - I choose to look at the glass half full. I hope Portland can return to its prime as we all do. ✌️
@@JacksonMeyer You’re a very positive person, and that is encouraging, God bless🙏🏻💛
shit try Miami, its a hellscape of MAGA horrors....its just what capitalism is, terrible, no matter what party of clowns runs it. If you think it's a NIGHTMARE, you must be part of the tiny minority in this country that are doing well as we mostly suffer from the crimes of the corporate oligarchy
Powells and voodoo? Only cringey tik tokers and Germans go to those places.
Haha I agree on Voodoo, so overrated. Powells is properly rated. It’s legit, or I guess I might be a cringy tiktokker or German 🤷🏼♂️ haha
I bet that library is a front!!
Not everything is a conspiracy… it’s an awesome book store! 😜
Ignoring the problems of OREGON does not make everything ok. You are totally 💯 % misleading your audience. I know because I left Oregon in 2021. Oregon is my birth state and I miss it.
And what do you suggest I do, what could I do that would make you happy…since that is important to you. Become a law and order UA-cam channel, move into the field of addiction remedy and political science? Be real, I’m showing an average day of an average person in Portland. Choosing to see the glass as have full rather than half empty isn’t ignoring anything, it’s choosing happiness. It’s far better than the alternative: focusing my entire life, and channel etc. on the Homeless, Addiction and crime of Portland. I say this in the description: “Yes Portland has problems, but Portland also is super cool and a great city with a fun identity…. It’s currently just a confused teenager at this point in time” 😜
Visited Oregon rest of the state is cool Portland is a big pile of garbage just skip it
Haha - Portland is in recovery mode (hopefully). The Oregon Coast is my favorite part of Oregon 🌲 🌊 Thanks for watching!
Portland is a shithole. If you are on vacation and have money to waste for a few days, I guess it's okay. But living here is a nightmare.
As someone who lives here I has lived here for the last 7 years, I have to disagree. Does it have MASSIVE problems, sure. Is it an incredible hub for adventure, YES! I am not recommending you go downtown everyday, I like certain areas of the city of Portland, and there are many to explore and it really is a cool place - but hey, your opinion is your opinion, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you for making a video about the good of Portland and not focusing on the bad like @leebobby1987
Ayyyyy I appreciate it 🤙🌲 - thanks for watching!
Lmao there's a bookstore, some bridges, a sign, a rock garden, a basketball court, a restaurant with a big screen and a bush! Get your plane tickets before they sell out!!
What's good ? Honestly... Bet you're from the ... Let me guess ... Midwest...lol quit commenting
@@Antisnowflake503Nice guess. I'm from NYC actually. That's an ACTUAL city. Ive traveled to many other smaller cities across the US and Portland is easily one of the worst. The food sucks. The people suck. The housing sucks. The nightlife sucks. It could be better but Portlanders don't know enough to see what's wrong with it. You can't improve if you think nothings wrong. Portland is a joke, its vacant, boring af and basically a bunch of unwashed ravers, geriatric crust punks, vagabond homeless and methheads with a passive agressive streak. The only people who think Portland isn't pathetic- are portlanders and ironically- some people from the Midwest. You guys brag about absolutely nothing on the regular and you are arrogant for no reason lol. NYC has issues also- all cities do- but NYC has actual culture, actual food, it's chaotic and it works at the same time. Portland is simply a DUMP and a boring one at that. To all tourists- skip Portland and just go straight to the nature- you won't be missing anything in that city. To all Portlanders defensive of their "cuisine" - visit a real city, eat at some real restaurants and go back to teach Portlanders how to do it properly. If you come to NYC bring some currency and ask the locals where the best places to eat are. You honestly could even just go to Long Island and hit a few Diners and it'll top literally ANYTHING Portland has foodwise.
