LOL, had to look them all up again, Thanks again, they are doing great,.....well,....except the small flat round leaf one, it kinda got smothered by some other plants and died off,..my bad
Very nice but I would of done something with the glass at the back, maybe painted it white ? I dont like the wood as you look through it ,but thats my preference, super cute tank and crabs though .Little tip,it you put your plant cutting 's in a plastic bag it keeps the moisture while you decide where to plant them .☺
Looks cool, but I doubt this can actually work in the long run. The soil will still release a ton of nutrients into the water below, but since there can hardly be any submerged plants all those nutrients will cause a massive algea bloom, before the emerse plants have rooted down. I don't know your room temperatures, but I doubt they are 24°, so you probably need at least a heater for the water, and depending on the sources, 40x40 is too small for a group of 6, most sources recommend at least 60x30 for 6 animals, so you might need to add another level to the tank.
Just over a year in and things are going great, terrestrial plants need lots of trimming, floating aquatics (dwarf water lettuce) keep algae at a minimum, crabs are doing well (lost 1) new babies dont last too long as the adults eat them but dont want it overcrowded anyway.
Awesome videos! I’m just struggling to keep my moss green/alive. I think it sits on constantly wet repti soil is that a problem? Where do I plant it? 🫠Also I’ve got some pothos growing in the water portion only, if they are in constantly wet soil I know they’ll die too? Help pls!
The Pothos can tolerate wet soil in my experience but the moss does need good drainage, if its constantly wet you will need to make the drainage portion deeper, or add more soil so its well above the water level and can drain better, ...good luck!
awesome tank set up, i like these crabs but i want to get ones that are more aquatic than land based and for freshwater. do u have any recommendations? also what do you feed them and do you have to change the water in any way (like ph levels etc) ?
There's a species of aquatic only known as Thai spider crab. Very small and shy, they are pretty much nocturnal. If you search on UA-cam you'll find a few videos on them
I think so, just be sure there are some "landscaping elements" (wood , rocks, plants) to allow them some separation to establish their own burrows and caves
I love the tank. Especially the overhead light it has. I am just about ready to try and start my own. Is there a good place to buy these online? Or is it sensible to look locally due to shipping?
Sorry not much help as I haven't had to deal with them and the crabs. In fish aquariums I have used Fenbendazole (dog wormer) and had great success. Not sure how it would affect the crabs
The water level should stay below the mesh in the Hydro Balls, and the soil should be above the water level. That being said I have often over filled it a bit and the water gets into the soil and it doesn't seem to affect anything negatively. Thanks for watching
Yes, There are over 30 types/variations of Tinctorius frogs this one is actually Azureus, I misspoke as had my Auratus in the tank next to them, but they are all types of Tinc's
Keep these crab videos coming!
They are so interesting and I can’t wait to finally get my setup
Glad you like them!
This video was incredible. Thanks for taking the time to walk through all the steps.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great Paludarium! The crabs will be super happy in there! Also you got all the names right 😁

i think you are the best in making crabitat for vampire crab, it is proven there were babies, means they are happy inside the tank.
Thank-you appreciate it!
this person is one of my new favourite youtubers and ive only been watching for 5 mins
Thank-you, I appreciate that!! Sorry for the slow reply
They’re so cute! 🥰

Omg!! So amazing! Thank you for sharing 🥰🥰👏🏻👏🏻. I just couldn’t get my crabs happy. It may take me a few paychecks but sooo worth it.
You are welcome, hope it works out for you
That looks amazing looks so rewarding and fun
It really was...Thanks
You could also use the plastic mesh bags for the leca.
Carl, you rock man! Great videos. You make some of the challenging issues so simple. Great presentations and explanations! Thanks man!
Glad you like them!
Awesome video Carl!!!
Thanks!!

Looks great!!! How many times have your original crabs had babies now?
Hard to say for sure but probably had a bout 3 batches now
Awesome enclosure and tutorial! What stones are you using here? Seiryu?
Thanks, yes they were Seiryu stones

I dont know of any strictly land based crabs, I feed my Vampires Crabs fish flakes, some insects like mealworms and some chopped veggies

Nice update on the vampires! Just a little question, can I use gravel?
In the water portion for sure, but probably not best for the land part as they like to burrow
would a 30cm cube paludarium be good for three vampire crabs? beautiful work, by the way!
I think so, just be sure there are some "landscaping elements" (wood , rocks, plants) to allow them some separation to establish their own burrows and caves
@@PetsNPonds I’ve got plenty of supplies to do just that! Thank you for your help :)
I love the tank. Especially the overhead light it has. I am just about ready to try and start my own. Is there a good place to buy these online? Or is it sensible to look locally due to shipping?
Thank-you, I always suggest supporting local where its possible, not too familiar with online light sources other than Amazon
I’m dealing with a Planarian infestation right now. Do you have any suggestions on how to quarantine the crabs or remove the Planarians?
Sorry not much help as I haven't had to deal with them and the crabs. In fish aquariums I have used Fenbendazole (dog wormer) and had great success. Not sure how it would affect the crabs
mine can climb the filter wire so i had to put a mesh on top
Mine climb the plants often, so the cover is neccessary
Any problems with mold or anything?
No not at all, I leave the glass top cracked open a bit to
keep the condensation to a minimum
Does the water fill into the drainage layer? does it not make the soil soggy?
The water level should stay below the mesh in the Hydro Balls, and the soil should be above the water level. That being said I have often over filled it a bit and the water gets into the soil and it doesn't seem to affect anything negatively. Thanks for watching
Hey PNP Aquatics, I don’t want to sound stupid with the crabs do you need a heater in the water for the crabs ?
I just keep them at room temperature, no heater required, Thanks for watching!!
I’m from the UK so yeah I can’t keep them at room temperature
@@AaronBarnardyoutuber I am in Canada, room temps for me here are 20-21C and they do fine, it doesnt hurt to heat them if you want though
@@CarlOutside thank you i just want to get it right thats all because they expensive for a nice pair of them here
could i keep only females in a tank together
I am sure that would be just fine, thanks for watching
Does the water need a heater? And does the water need any special treatment? Thanks
They are fine at room temperature, I do not heat the tank and they are quite happy and breeding. I just de chlorinate any new water going in
@@PetsNPonds perfect , thank you so much for the response
Is that moss real or fake moss? I’m just wondering
It is real moss that is growing well now
how do you keep the water on the right temperature ?
The room temp in my shop is warm enough, you could put a submersible heater in the water section and that should warm it up more if necessary
no cover?
Yes, it has a glass cover one it. I want to keep it humid in the tank
vampare crab need salt water or mineral water
Just straight freshwater is best for them
Did they have more babies?
Yes, a few times now
What type of mesh do you use?
On this tank I used the Exo Terra Bio Drain mesh
what pump did you use
Its called an Elite Mini, thanks for watching
How can u tell male and female from vampire crabs?
Males have much bigger bulkier claws, female claws are quite dainty and fine
So u can tell only by their claws? Not colours / eye or their base?
@@limsunny9634 there may be other ways, but claw size is the easiest and most obvious
Thanks u so much for the advise
Male have a triangle Belly and females habe a roundish oval Belly
The frogs are tinctorius not auratus 😉
Yes, There are over 30 types/variations of Tinctorius frogs this one is actually Azureus, I misspoke as had my Auratus in the tank next to them, but they are all types of Tinc's
vampare crab eat what????
I feed mine fish flakes and pellets, they will also eat some plant/vegetable matter
Nice set up! Check out mine!
Will do
