    In my opinion Jinjer deserves a Grammy for this album. There has been no album this year in metal that I've heard on this level. Not the new Mastodon, not the new Gojira, none.

      I loved Hushed and Grim. The engineering as well was quite masterful. Plus, Sickle and Peace and More Than I Could Chew are incredible grown up versions of their approach progressive metal. That being said Wallflowers is a masterpiece as well. However I would say Micro and Macro are their absolute best song writing. Nothing beats Teacher Teacher and Perennial.

    Each of the members are so talented. It's amazing. I'm not a huge fan but I love the band but as a musician how they play off each other, the time signatures, the guitar picking single note chords, the bassist pretty much following the guitar like a maniac with chords and tapping, the drummer.. is just so clean and on point and has the coolest patterns. And of course the lead singer has no issue following the weird time signatures and her voice and growls and face.
    Ok maybe I'm a little bit of a fan.

    Wanna hear something silly? Vlad, the drummer, was (is!) a pianist, classically trained. There's a recording of him playing Rachmaninov Prelude in C# minor, on their official channel. Learned the drums later because a band needed a drummer (not Jinjer, I believe, a previous band?) :-D

    As far as how they write their music, the 3 guys compose the album and record demos to send to Tatiana. She listens to the demos, spends around 3 days listening to each song. Then she fills in her vocals how she wants. They stopped composing with vocals in mind because her vocals were always a surprise to them.

    The "Pisces live session" video vocals are processed, they're real, not fake, just so polished it makes it appear unnatural for a live session (one can compare with live version from a show), so I guess it's natural that people assume that it's some effect, especially if they haven't seen female growl before.

    • @shma1israel
      @shma1israel 2 роки тому

      Yes, but that's why Pisces is not the best song to introduce people to Jinjer, because like it or not, that growl is effected, it's obvious, and it will turn some people away. We all know Tatiana doesn't need those effects on her voice, so I'll stand by my opinion that it's a bad aesthetical choice (I'm only talking about that single recording). The 'Judgement (& Punishment)' one take is a way better choice for new listeners.

    Thanks for doing this song! Sorry that I didn't see it until now. The song is structured around a decomposed Cuban salsa. They run through it fully in the first clean vocal segment before the clean bridge. Then each section from then on takes one bar or transition from the salsa and dismantles it. Musically I think this is their most complex song.
