    I went ahead and ordered the Max. Will have to see how it does in May. They had less than 20 remaining of the 1K. Clearly most people were interested in the Max.
    I was originally waiting to see more of the Hisense C2 Ultra, but at the early price point this will be cheaper and should be good enough for outdoor movie nights on a 150" screen. Let's be honest, you'll find it for less than MSRP at launch, but likely higher than the early price.
    For indoors I managed to buy a high end screen (145") for less than $100. I'll have enough time to assemble it.
    A year ago you you'd never hear me saying I'm looking for a home theatre setup. One thing lead to the other and here we are.😅

    8:20 how is this "IMAX Enhanced" projector different from all the other 16:9 projectors and TVs? I've been able to watch IMAX "Enhanced" movies for many years because they just expand to 16:9. Why does this need a special enhanced mode?
    Otherwise, thanks for the great review.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  3 місяці тому +1

      @@Pedr4m honestly IMAX enhanced is really confusing to a lot of people. in this context, it means that it passes the IMAX enhanced quality standards for audio and or video. Which is why it includes an IMAX enhanced picture preset. The way I look at it Is it similar to a THX certification back in the day. It should be able to reproduce the image appropriately. But you’re right, you do not need an iMac enhanced certified device to watch the IMAX enhanced version.

    Looks great but I was wondering how the 4 different models compare side by side. I get the extra features in the top two like zoom but would anyone notice any difference in image quality, brightness and colours ? I assume that the first two require you to move the projector to a position that fills the screen. This might be inconvenient in some rooms. But is the difference in price worth the features ?

      @shawnblackmur7887 2 місяці тому

      I have the same questions... I pre-ordered the Plus 2 and wonder if the extra 1000 lumens are worth $600. Once I have it in position I'm not moving it again (dedicated home theater room) so the optical zoom isn't a deciding factor for me.

    Great review. Looks promising, but unfortunately a no go for me as I use a scope screen. I did not see any mention of lens memory on their site for any of the models. Any black floor measurement comparisons? Seems like it show get decently dark. I am spoiled by my ancient JVC DILA projector currently for blacks.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  3 місяці тому +2

      I'll have to go back and check my measurements. But I too have an old JVC 1080p Dila the RS-46u. It is a great projector, but there really is no comparison between the two. The brightness, vibrancy and color output combined with the black floor on this Valerion has banished the JVC to the corner - looking for a new home. The Valerion just looks so much better and is much quieter. Sometimes, I think we focus too much on absolute black floor, while forgetting all the other features that make a great projector.

    • @TimLundmark
      @TimLundmark 3 місяці тому +2

      The black floor will depend on the screen size and brightness target. If you're targeting 100 nits for example (around 150" at the 1700 lumens another reviewer measured):
      Native: 100/2944 = 0.033 nits
      EBL: 100/12605 = 0.0079 nits
      With EBL you're looking at a black floor not far off of what you'd expect from JVC without FFTB.

    Does this projector still use the smaller 0.47 DMD chip? If so, then Benq and Viewsonic are a better proposition as their latest models come with the larger chip offering better native contrast and higher reliability.

    • @tbob2224
      @tbob2224 3 місяці тому +4

      It does use the 0.47" DMD. There are no BenQ or Viewsonic models that can approach the VisionMaster's (or modern UST's that also use the 0.47") native contrast of 3000:1. The size of the chip has little to nothing to do with contrast.
      Also the 0.47" chip has been very reliable in UST projectors - again it's not the chip that's the issue it's the cooling design. Optoma was known to cut a lot of corners in that area which is why so many failed.

      @@tbob2224I posted a reply but somehow it doesn't show. I will try again. Thanks for responding. I'm no expert but do read extensively about projectors as I am in the market for one myself. My guru is a guy called GregW, who runs a French site called mondoprojos, a treasure trove for all matters relating to the latest in projector technology. English translations are provided, so definitely worth checking out. He is a professional calibrator and reviewer of projectors, so I'm only repeating what he has observed, that the larger 0.65 DMD chip provides better native contrast. This is based on a calibrated image, not on the manufacturer's specs which are generally obtained via dynamic picture mode setting. At the end of the day, what really matters is the picture quality, irrespective of how this is achieved. All UST projectors continue to use the smaller chip with fabulous results. Personally, I am leaning towards the Benq HT4550i but my main concern is the dreaded RBE. Would be interesting to see how the Valerion measures up to the Benq or even the Viewsonic 4K X-1.

    In a controlled light room home cinema setup and the valerion max pro what is the best possible projector screen tonuse ? Is too much information ou there about materials and alr and layers of the screen and ratio i am Lost,any suggestions and recommendations? Thank you very much

    • @Toid
      @Toid  3 місяці тому +1

      What I would suggest is ordering samples. Most reputable screen manufacturers will send you samples that you can test in your room. Even light controlled rooms can react differently. For example I got some samples from Silver Ticket and decided the WAB - which is an acoustically transparent screen was best for me. I also really like Seymour AV if you want to DIY a screen (I have a video on that). But in the end it is best to look at screens in your budget that fit the size you want, then figure out the material. For some of the best values, I think Silver ticket is up there.

    It looks like vidda/Hisense sold their c1 device blueprints and they changed their design path with C2 series.
    I wish all lifestyle projectors added a function that shifts the active image to the top or bottom of the screen and will buy the one that has this, or the best of them.
    Does it require so much processing power or its just a simple function? You cant imagine how helpful it is with a masking system, because lens memory on a projector is not always accurate but this way projector stays idle and the image never looses alignment.
    So far I have only seen madvr core, envy and lumagen processors do it, why not the projectors?
    I mean they dont have lens shift this way they can get more home theatre clients. Its very inconvenient not having lens shift. And I mean all not the MAX version that does offer this function.
    If valerion can transfer on screen what we see on paper I am so going for it.

    I think the real game changer is 100 inch mini led tvs for under $2k now.. Makes projectors a bit pointless.

    • @tbob2224
      @tbob2224 3 місяці тому +6

      Sorry, no. The difference between 100 and 150" is absolutely massive. These also support 3D properly so if you're into that you'll get a much better experience. The brightness of course will be much higher on the TV's but these will still get pretty bright.
      VA panels also typically have massive amounts of motion blur - I much prefer gaming on 4k 60hz on DLP over 4k 120hz on my VA mini LED (U8K), the response time on VA is just too slow for that refresh rate - especially in dark areas - up to 32ms (equivalent to 30hz) in fact!
      Now if we were talking OLED then yes, 4k/120hz is amazing, I love playing games on my OLED (LG C2), but it's not as immersive as a larger screen.

    • @robert7622
      @robert7622 3 місяці тому

      @@tbob2224 I guess game changer to me means changing the actual game.. If you can get a 100 inch mini led TV now cheaper and with arguably a better picture then a 120 projector set (brightness/HDR/144hz) why bother going thru all the hassle? 5 years ago a 100inch tv with decent mini LED contrast was $15k+.. much more then a decent 4K projector.. Now if you got a decent 100 inch tv in the lounge are you really going to be bothered to stick a movie on in the cinema room? Or even build a cinema room for that matter??? Ours hardly gets used since we got a new 85inch.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  3 місяці тому +1

      @@tbob2224 agreed. The other issue that a lot of people don’t think about is whether they can logistically fit 100 inch television in their house. It might fit in the space, but you have to figure out a way to get it upstairs around corners through hallways, etc. It’s a lot harder to do that than it is to move a projector into a room. In some cases, it won’t even be possible to fit 100 inch television.

    • @MrSummerknight
      @MrSummerknight 3 місяці тому +1

      Projectors are so much more flexible. Take it with you to a friend. Move to your next flat, without choosing the flat by if you can somehow ffs get the god damn giant tv into it. I'd never buy such a big tv if I didn't know for sure that I'll keep in that house until I die. Also, projectors use less energy. A TV of that dimensions will use ~400-500 Watt * hour. This valerion projector will be somewhere between 100-250
