I really appreciate you showing us even the little things. Some of us - like me - know squat about this stuff...and I want to learn as much as I realistically can. And you are helping me with that. Peace.
The torque spec you found is just the start of the preload adjustment procedure. You start at 89 ft-lbs and then adjust in 10 ft-lb increments until the rolling drag is in spec. I looked and Toyota doesn't give a procedure for reusing the crush sleeve. But, on every other manufacturer I've seen you are supposed to measure the rolling drag of the whole differential before you take it apart, then when you reassemble it you adjust until it's about 5 in-lbs greater. It's really tricky to do. I always take the wheels off and back off the calipers if it has disk brakes. Even then it's a PITA to get a consistent measurement of the rolling drag. But, I doubt it makes any difference!
The fact that you balanced that drive shaft so damn well amazes me. Because it's a specific job which requires it's own shop and specialist to do it. Very good 👍👍👍
Yeah it wasn't weight balanced made sure the phasing was dead on and the run-out was acceptable. But it turns smooth as can be with no vibration. The front driveshaft that is factory however the phasing is out a couple degrees and has a vibration over about 45-50 if you have the hubs locked in...lol that might be a video for another day
I love my 09 Tacoma. Its just a little 4 cyl 2.7, nothing too fun, but shes got 200,000 miles and purrs like a kitten. Love the videos, especially the big diesel repairs
Enjoyable to watch you do something on here. Why ?? Because you finish what you start. I have a bit of a problem with stopping and walking away before something is done. Keep it up. We enjoy your efforts immensely.
You just reminded me of something on my "to do" list I have to change out the gear oil in my 88 Ford F250 and both axles on my 04 Toyota RAV4. I guess I know what I'll be doing on Friday morning. Nice day to do it today where I'm at, but I'm on a ladder today painting my house. Took a break from it and your notification popped up so I immediately had to see it. Thanks for the great video. 👍
I really enjoy the content of all of your videos. Must admit I'm like most I expect as I prefer old red. But you're good at what you do so keep it going. All the best from the U K.
Just found your threads online. Found your youtube. Inspirational!! Exactly what I want to do with my 90 2wd 22r! And my rear pinion seal is leaking LOL. Looks awesome. Can't wait to lift mine a bit.
i don't mind the white wagon wheels i wouldn't mind getting a set of the chrome steel rims with the round holes for it (my mind is blank what most people call them for some reason)
I had a 1988 Toyota 2wheel. Drive truck...replace pinion seal on it back in.2005 .or 2006....truck had...180k. On it... And replace brake light switch trigger. Right above break pedal....
another great video love the fact you got drain bucket after the spill on floor ha ha.Proves you'r human like lots of us we all forget 🤢👍Homer moment Doooh !!!!!!
I own a Landrover and just gave up on the pinion leak. Changed the seal a few times but after a while it starts to leak again. Just fill it up every now and then, and let it mark its spot. sometimes you win sometimes you lose.😢
Front pinion seal was leaking on my parts chasing/work pickup which uses a crush sleeve. I figured after 300k on that diff the bearings have a little wear and rattling it on with the impact just reset it to factory! Sounds good, and it was cold and late so.....all good! That is a cool old Toyota and now leak free(less?).
How did u shorten drive? I would love to see video if u ever do again. I love ur videos so easy to follow. Especially for us shade tree mechanics, thanks brother your friend from Larned kansas Eric Houser.
On the tailgate vid, you left with one garbage bag in the truck, this time you pull in with three! lmao sorry just found it funny. Keep the good videos coming Ezra!
Lol. Don't have trash pickup at the shop both videos were recorded just before I left for the day on different days. This one was recorded same day as the old red update video
@@Ezrider359 Hey are selling in merch so I can help support your channel more? I would live to have a tshirt of old red or even that sweet looking jaguar! Anything to help you brother.
it did have a crush sleeve, the crush sleeve is further in the diff its used to set pinion depth by tightening the pinion nut witch is why i said it was important not to over torque it.
If the crush sleeve is crushed beyond proper pinion depth it has to be replaced. Initial setup would involve tighten the nut until proper pinion depth is set. For what I'm doing here what you are doing is torquing it to a amount that is tight enough but not so tight that your going to further crush the sleeve.
Yeah it's a Smitty built. I bought it second hand probably sometime in the late 90's it wasn't originally for that truck as I had to cut the mounts off and make different mounts but they are good bumpers. That one is probably older than the truck 😂

What up EZ, good to see your finding time to get work done on the 'Yota... that's a nice little truck
sockets make some of the best seal drivers! smooth as glass! the toyota is ready for another 100k miles.
i probably use sockets more often than the seal driver kit i have.

Ezra when you grabbed a finger of that gear oil I thought you were going to taste it. It looks real clean under there.

I sure love that pretty new tailgate
Always good to see content from you. Im always learning something new each time
Yo that truck looks mean like that though with the white steelies and matte grey. Glad to see you posting again
I like the steel wheels on that truck. Nothing wrong with saving a truck by combining two together.
i don't mind the white wagon wheels i wouldn't mind getting a set of the chrome steel rims with the round holes for it (my mind is blank what most people call them for some reason)

Good luck 👍

Wahoo! Nother Ezra video!
Great video.
Cool stuff man 👍
Turtle here great work i don't have your nice pump and that gear oil stinky stuff
Maybe in future do a video of replacing the seal if it has a crush sleeve? Thank you
it did have a crush sleeve, the crush sleeve is further in the diff its used to set pinion depth by tightening the pinion nut witch is why i said it was important not to over torque it.
I am sorry my mistake
Thank you.
Any idea on the size of the nut that holds the yoke on? And a ball park of the socket you used to press the seal in?
Thank you, helpfull!!
Well done
If it makes you feel better I gagged when you pulled the seal out. I cannot stand the smell of 80/90.
esp when its old, new gear oil isn't too bad old gear oil is pretty gross.
Always thinking my list just got longer lol diffs and transfer case
Where u live at in South Dakota
Good job can i get the part number.

what's the cable hanging down on the drivers side with crimped loop? an old stabilizer???
the exhaust was hanging off that at one time, it does nothing now needs to be removed.

Didn't think you could reuse a crush sleeve...

Is the front bumper original?
Not factory but a very popular aftermarket bumper from the 80's
@@Ezrider359 is it a SB bumper I always wondered if the SM bumpers work fine. For my fathers 86 Toyota.
