    Correction: NVIDIA's chart says either it is 10dBA quieter at the same temperature (thermal-normalized) or 20C cooler at the same noise level (noise normalized). Sorry to mix that up, but that's what we get when we have 6 hours of technical briefings and 24 hours to turn around the content!

      As soon as I saw that reference cooler design I was thinking Mac Pro. 3 tunnels to separate PSU, GPU and CPU. Each has it own's intake and exhaust, and it is not obstructed. Might be as simple as using pieces of perspex in your existing case to separate these?

      @@GamersNexus It’s a shame some other channels accepted NVidia’s offer of early access and all of the “constraints” on their coverage that likely entailed. Waaay too close to a commercial masquerading as a review. UA-cam recommended a few of those videos and I’ve told the algorithm to not show me recommendations from those channels anymore. I’m happy to stick to GN and those I know that won’t compromise their standards to get early access or have a better relationship with the manufacturers.

      Stick a heatsink on the M.2 and it should still stay cooler even with "Hot" air blowing on it. Exhaust Air is rarely more than a few degrees above ambient, where component temps are excessively high relative to ambient, so as long as you can catch airflow the chips will be cooled effectively no matter how many components the air has been through.

    • @MrMattumbo
      @MrMattumbo 4 роки тому +2

      @@budthecyborg4575 Even with a heatsink over time it should get saturated and end up with the same thermals. You can add mass to soak up heat but if it can't dissipate quicker nothing will change except the time it takes to reach X degrees. Maybe that would help with certain workloads or if the heatsink has lots of fins, but from what I've seen M.2 heatsinks rarely work well even without a GPU blowing on them.

    When you are testing, please look at when the GPU is in an upright position, as when on a testbench or in a desktop - and when the GPU is in a vertical position as in the Silverstone FT cases or inverted as in the Silverstone Temjin cases. In all those scenarios it would help immensely if the through fan could run in the other direction so that air would flow away from the CPU cooler and not directly into the feed of the CPU cooler. Or can perhaps the fan be turned over?

    • @Ty4ons
      @Ty4ons 4 роки тому +6

      If the fan is flipped it would feed hot air straight into the other fan that’s pushing air out the IO shield. You want the fans on the card to blow the same way so one of them doesn’t feed hot exhaust air into the other.

    It looks to me that most "partner design" coolers just blow all the energy into the case in all directions. Recirculated and eventually reach some case exhaust.
    At least the new FE cooler pushes part of the total energy out directly through the IO panel, and the rest has a more focused direction instead of going all directions. So perhaps it can perform better for the CPU because of less recirculation in and around the graphics card itself, so the hot air flows better instead of being re-heated again at GPU before going out.

    Hi Steve .
    Two quick questions on specifically the 3080 and 3090 cooler designs affecting chipset temps in vertical GPU mounts.
    1. How will it affect exhausting hot air onto chipsets in a vertical configuration ?
    Up to now , we where recommended to use vertical GPU mounts that position the GPU further from the side-panel glass , and thus closer to the motherboard .
    What would have the most impact on performance on the system ?
    A> Closer to the glass panel possibly starving the GPU of air (Normal GPU mount)
    B> Closer to the motherboard , exhausting hot air onto the Chipset (GPU Bracket that moves the graphics card further away from the glass panel)
    2. Will different chipset configurations also be affected differently ?
    X570 active cooling with mini fans vs X570 , B550 and Intel motherboards with passive cooling for example ?
    Thanks for giving us the quality consistent answers :)

    Hey Steve, I would actually be curious to see how the 3080/3090 perform with a stock intel/AMD cooler. Not because it's a realistic usage scenario, but _because_ they are really crappy coolers already barely able to keep up with the CPUs they ship with. In which case, if a 3080 does indeed worsen the intake/ambient temperature of the CPU, these will be the first coolers to show it in tests. They won't be able to absorb any extra BTUs in soak, or hide small temperature changes in tenths of a degree.
    If an intel 10900 with a stock cooler is still able to post the same performance with a 3080 in the system, then any $40, $50, $60, or $100 CPU cooler would simply shrug off any contribution from the 3080 cooler. And if they _can't_ , well that would still be informative to anyone running a SFF with a low profile CPU cooler, without GamersNexus having to run a bunch of low profile coolers in a bunch of extra SFF cases.

      @@arose001 I've built 8 ryzen systems since zen 2 launched. There's no reason at all to use the stock cooler, especially on the 3700x/3900x... They're worthless coolers and I'd only use them to test if a system works. They can't handle the chips at full load or with any PBO... Don't even need to give benches for that. You should just know that. The wraith stealth on zen 2 is garbage, 3600 will hit 76c in a high airflow case (p500, NR600, full tower cases etc.) with the stealth. Which is uh. Not very good. I wouldn't even want to turn on PBO and see it hit far higher. Now imagine putting the 3600 with stock cooler in a choked off case. It hits 76c in an optimal setup, 3 intake 2 exhaust, high airflow low ambient (20-21c) what would it hit in a worse scenario?

    It is currently hard to find an up-to-date video about best practices when building a PC on an airflow case. This came close to it during the PC case section and was super nice. Is there any chance of you making an up-to-date video about where to position your case fans, what are the appropriate speeds for your case fans and why? Especially now since it seems many people will be making new PCs to accommodate the new GPUs.

    I have an SL600M case with 4 200mm fans (bottom intake, top exhast), plus a vertically mounted D-15 exhausting upwards. This cooler design seems really interesting for good GPU temps, but with a 3900x, I would love to see some testing in vertical intake/exhaust style cases to see just how bad CPU thermals would get. This is of course assuming more heat energy radiates directly into the CPU cooler's premises, and not out the PCIE slots or towards the front of the case.

Seeing the new RTX 3000 series supports pci-x 4.0, will us Intel users be left in the dust in terms of "cheap" upgrade path and run into bottlenecking with the RTX3090, while AMD users striking gold with already having pci-x 4.0 support on recent builds? you could always reverse your tower cooler fan. have the back fan blow into the cpu fan fresh air which is also blowing towards the front of the case, and have the front fan blowing out the hopefully mesh front lol. if you have 3 front fans you could have the top 2 blowing out and the bottom one sucking in towards the gpu intake. and if you have top fans too, you could make the one closest to the back suck in having the fresh air get caught in the crosswind going into the cpu cooler and the one closest to the front blowing out which would take some of the cpu coolers exhaust and gpus air with it since the gpus exhaust blows straight up anyway. the front top exhaust is just to catch any remainder heat and keep air moving fast over the ram.

    I think the new cooler design on the Ampere FE cards looks like it can be perfect for the Lian Li O11D case where you can put the exhaust fans on the side. If you then mount the GPU vertically, the hot air from the card will go straight out with the side fans on the case.

    the new RTX build's fundamental design is similar to what i been thinking about. using and cramp all GPU processing element (VRM, memories, core) in small dimension of PCB, and use the rigid chassis as the bed to the whole card build instead of the PCB. so the extra dimension of the GPU card's chassis can be used to hold cooling units. and that small PCB of the new RTX is similar by size to upgradable GPU card for customizable laptops. makes it simple for GPU manufacturer to market the same card for laptop too. besides the VRM differences probably.
