I've been thinking about this too. I'm wondering if it might actually be great for the H1, IF you do the little NF-A4x20 mod that some people have done. The flow-through would seemingly dump the hot air right into the exhaust fans - which would be ideal.

Quick Tech News I think the EVGA XC3 will definitely fit. While the clearance is 45mm acc to the NZXT site, it’s realistically 55mm without the filter.
The MSI offerings are too thick. Asus ones are straight up 3 slots. Gigabyte are 2.5-2.75. They maaaayyy fit, but it’s really difficult to say, as we don’t have exacts.
I just hope the 650 watt included PSU holds up. Acc to many sites with wattage calculators, it should be able to (just barely), but I think I’ll under clock my CPU and GPU just to be safe.
      Happy building!

If you could test this "convection" cooling system with a case focussing on bottom-up airflow and an Ice Giant Prosiphon cooler this would be sweet. Perhaps trying the Lian Li O11D mini? This would probably be the most convection airflow optimized setup:
    - 3x120 bottom intake
    - RXT 3080 FE (ideally)
    - IG Prosiphon (has 4x120 fans)
    - 3x120 top fans.
    How about this?
PS: Using hot air through another colling unit is not necessarily an issue. Within certain parameters it can even be beneficial, has the airflow regardless of the temperature helps circulating air faster whilst the moving hot air does not warm the component very much as it moves. Also the flow-through design could help with RAM and VRM cooling.

Obviously most won't know the real answer for a little while but pause at 7:45. The "X" shaped shroud going around the card, is that too a heat sink or plastic? I wanted to know because I was planning on painting that portion white to match the Black/White theme of my build. Look at 7:41, before I even saw this image I assume the entire shroud was a heat sink based off of aesthetics but seeing those 4x heat pipes connecting to the frame/chassis of the card further makes me believe that it's indeed a heat sink.

The bottom fans of the M1 don't usually do much (unless coupled with an Accelero), but with the 3080 FE they might help quite a bit, because they would give you direct airflow onto that passively cooled middle section. I actually think h1 will work fairly nicely with 3080 because you can simply add an additional 140mm on the back plate to suck hot air out which is something I did with mine and it significantly reduced internal temp of the system. Worst case is to use a custom front plate with air vents and mount another 140mm in the front to create an air flow. As for power requirement, I’m using a ryzen 3900x and most time during gaming CPU usage is around 10%, so the power supply load should work with 3080 without any issues. I am so excited to add 3080 my h1, making it one the best performing itx system.

    • @renedescartes2613
      @renedescartes2613 4 роки тому +3

Changing flow direction by rewiring the fan cables should be an easy job, if nvidia didn't everything in place again. However, I doubt that this would be of any use, as the new exhaust would be right next to the first fan, which would suck in some warm air. It might be a feasible option to rewire both fans, so that the first fan sucks air infrom the gpu bracket and exhausts it out of the bottom (or side for sandwich layouts) of the case aswell. That way exhausted air and intake air would not mix.
There might be significant drawbacks though regarding the efficiency of the fans turning in reverse and rather creating negative pressure than originally positive pressure.
All that still probably won't be worth voiding your warranty though.
I can hardly wait for Ali's testing and tinkering regarding all these questions.

I think the Founders Edition will work well with the NCASE M1. 2x bottom intake fans feed air to the GPU, then you can have radiator fans from an AIO acting as exhaust about if you want. Or if you have a small tower cooler, you would maybe have a 120mm fan mounted toward the front of the case for intake (above the GPU fan exhaust) and it'd likely mix with the warmer air that gets fed through the CPU cooler out the back.

Which way does the second fan spin? It looks like it will blow heat downwards if in push - but the way your diagram shows pulling air upwards, then it must spin the other way round in pull ? If it is push then it's going to conflict with my bottom case fans & be terrible. If pull, then I don't care about it heating my CPU as I have a 240 AIO on it 👍

i think a mini itx case that will compliment the rtx 3080 will be the In Win A1 as it has fans right at the back of the card and fans at the bottom of the case so it will work really well

I know you've said that the design of the Fractal Era is not ideal for the 10- and 20-series cards. But with this new airflow design, would it be worth reconsidering the Era?

Hello and thanks for the great and informative videos. I have one question though. Why should the air be blown out of the rear fan, the fan blades point inwards, so the air would have to be pushed through the cooling fins and not blown towards the CPU??

I am currently running a air cooled set up on the NCase. My current GPU is de-shrouded with 2 noctuas underneath. It looks like a lot of the 3080 are going to be huge, do you think any of them would be a good fit de-shrouded?

3:20 you should turn that radiator so tubes are at the bottom. It leaves less possibility of pump noise

Great video and confirms my concerns with buying an ITX case for a build I am planning to do very soon with a 3080!
Would you say that the best position for an AIO CPU cooler is at the front top of a mid tower case, possibly only taking 2/3 120mm fan slots to allow an additional 120mm fan to still bring in a slightly cooler air into the case and potentiallly use a couple of extra fans for extracting the air at the back and top of the case?

Do you think that the FE 3080 will have thermal issues in the NZXT h210/h200 case with a sfx psu and a noctua nh-d15 cooler?

I feel like the coolermaster nr200p will be very popular with the 3080. the exhaust systems on the card seem to work well with the card, especially since the hot air won't be blown directly onto glass but rather up into the top exhaust fan.
