I certainly liked this reel more than I thought I would. I just don’t use bait-feeders. This certainly a big one. I have two plain rear drag reels that, believe it or not, are actually larger - a Quantum and a Shimano that I use surf fishing. Great video Dennis! I like the introduction to this reel as I certainly had never seen one before.
Funny that this one had a live liner issue, I purchased one of these at the beginning of the year and my live liner no longer clicks. It gave out pretty quickly. Still functions correctly just cannot hear it if I’m using it as a clicker kind of like a bait caster on open spool
Your click pin is probably tight to the holder. probably from dried grease. No big deal to continue to fish with it. That or the spring has come loose under the spool - Thanks for the note - Dennis
I have this same reel that i never used because I was busy using two shimano 12000D baitrunners, but I will next year for stripers. Thank you Denise for showing how to service it when i need it. Can you service a shimano 12000d baitrunner reel if possible?
I don't get many of those in the shop and I don't have one here now, but I will add it to my list and do a video on the next one in. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Hey Dennis, I recently just put a new rotor and bail on my fierce 6000 LL, and everything went smoothly until I was reassembling it. Everything was back in place and seemed to be perfect but when I try to put the side plate back on it doesn’t quite push all the way in and it whenever it does the reel jams up. However when I take it off and turn the spool everything works fine. Did I just put it together incorrectly? Any tips are greatly appreciated, thanks!
Try setting the side plate as close a possible and then toggling the bait trip lever. There is a stud in the bait trip assemble that needs to seat in a lower slot in order for the case to seal.
@@2ndChanceTackle that was exactly it. I had to push the little lever connected to the spring inside the plate back a bit then put in the pole for the bait switch. Thanks again!
Great video, I have a newer Fierce 3 4000 Bait feeder that looks like this one just smaller. It’s been used very little but having an intermittent problem with the bait feeder. Sometimes when I have the bait feeder on and get a strike, I can pick up the rod, turn the handle and the bait feeder function comes off and I’m on the main drag fighting the fish. Other times, when I pickup the rod and turn the handle, the bait feeder doesn’t disengage and I have to manually flip the bait feeder lever forward to get on the main drag. Have you run into this on these Fierce 3 bait feeder reels before? Thx…
I generally see them in full fail mode and not as an intermittent failure. Check the internals. You may have a dried grease or a dry reel that is causing the movement or lack of movement in the trip mechanisms. If the grease is right, there may be a chipped tooth or other drive issue where it fails to trip at that point in the rotation - Dennis
That reel needs to be taken apart to see why it is hanging up. It could be any of a dozen or so issues. Trapped line, broken pieces, loose spring, bad gears, etc. please send a note to my email 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com for service and repair information - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Hello, I have the same reel. When i turn the handle, it will not take in line. I have to manually turn the spool with my hand to bring line in. The spool also spins both ways loosely with my hand. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
It sounds like your trip mechanism is not seeing the stop in the base of the reel when you move from bait feeder mode to retrieve. There is a pin that locks the free spool. That pin sits in a cam in the rear drag assembly. You need to take the reel apart and check that assembly - Dennis
I have a fierce 2 baitfeeder where can i order parts and a manual i have checked online but cant find anything on baitfeeders. Our back knob is locked up an we twisted the tiny screw off the level that holds it together. Can you please help us
You can order the parts through Mysticparts.com. Here is the link for your reel www.mysticparts.com/PennParts/Spinning.aspx#FierceFamily I would try contacting Penn Reels directly for the manual. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Sure - there are two types of drag washers in the stack. One is the keyed washer that has a slot or hole that fits firmly over the gear sleeve. The other is the earned washer that fits in the slots of the main gear but has a round hold that does not grip the center sleeve. The keyed washers lock down the sleeve while the earned washers hold the main gear firm. When there is full tension on the drag washers both the sleeve and main gear get locked in place. When you ease up on the pressure by backing off the star adjuster the drag washers in between the metal ones can slip or slide to allow for variation in the drag performance - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Very little difference. The Pursuit has the a graphite body and the Fierce has a full metal body. Internally, there is very little difference in the set up. If you do a lot of casting, then the lighter weight of the Pursuit will be an asset as you arms won't tire from throwing lures all day. If you do a lot of drop fishing for heavier fish, then the Fierce's metal body will help resist frame twist that can occur with snags or deep drop fishing with lots of weight on the line. So, both are good reels and both have advantages and disadvantages. It depends on how you fish - Dennis

More simple design than that 5600 Slammer. 😆 Thanks Dennis. Happy Thanksgiving.
That Slammer is one of the worst designs for a bait runner reel. That one spring can take forever to load. Best wishes - Dennis
