[Formerly] little prodigy Brandon Goldberg plays way beyond his age! Today Brandon is a critically acclaimed jazz pianist and composer, all while being a teenager. Sheet music trivia (first to answer correctly gets the PDF): Including extensions, the more accurate chord symbol for measure 99 is ____ ?
Join our secret music club: discord.com/invite/xBmYHcm46u
Assuming the LH E is not flat it would be a G13#5#9 or a Db13#9 add 2
It could also be a EDimb2Maj7, or Ebadd2b5b9
GMaj 13 9# 7 5# ?
@@robinlamoot9774 H # but with minor undertones
I was gonna say what@@Daniel-xi3gesaid: G13(#5#9)
I like the way the band stayed out of the kid’s way. The guitar is just strumming chords, the base is just doing a soft walk and the drummer is using brushes and the high hat and that’s it. Pros.
at first i was like, oh he might’ve just learned a really nice arrangement… but then he started comping behind the solo and started playing rootless voicings when the bass player/band came in 😳😳
I literally had the same thought, just amazing to see👌
@@sukkel2100 me too
That kid played like he'd been doing jazz piano for twenty years.
@@mattbosley3531 yeah i realized that it just took a second!
Yup thought that also, that it was just a solo piece he'd rehearsed..then he appeared to be "comping" experimenting with the arrangement..can seam too staged if these youngsters can't flex loosen up a little
Im not sure who the older guy is, but he was always spot on where he came in and which parts he played along, so also kudos to him
Monty Alexander
The groove is strong with this one
Goes to smash up my piano and retire.....
I did exactly that
Why do I even try!!??
Can’t believe I’d be saying this but I’m learning the piano to play like this kid
Already did that when Joey Alexander won the 2013 Master Jam Fest at the age of 9😅
🤣
He's such a natural on the piano and I love how chilled and laid back he is, doing what he loves the most. Its a much more pleasant sound then other kids his age where it feels like a competition to play as quickly and dramatically as possible, which loses the joy of the music.
think the best part is how the two of them were just havin fun on the piano
made me smile while watching it all the way through!
enjoyed this very much especially at 1:28
Absolutely amazing - his face was also priceless!
Notice how he said “I like to *listen* to jazz.” Instead of “play jazz”.
It is believed that the human brain can naturally pick up human language at a young age just by listening. Young brains can just listen and “build” the language on their own. That’s why we didn’t really need to “study” as babies to learn how to talk and communicate.
Language is just interpreting sounds and producing a meaningful responses using a part of our body, like our mouth or hands.
Is that not the same as playing jazz in a band?
I think this young prodigy really did just spend so much time listening and discovering jazz when he was very little. Jazz is as natural to him as speaking. He just knows what to do when he hears the progressions. And he can to do it without doing calculations, remembering music theory, or relying on sheet music.
Pretty cool 😎
That is exactly what was going on when he was a little boy. The only reason why not more young people learn to play so well so early is that 99,9999% of kids don't develop such an interest and curiosity for such music and for playing the piano. Generally only a very, very small percentage of people get such a burning interest in a subject.
@@christophmunch4796 Im sad I wasnt so interested in music as I am now when I was very little :/
> It is believed that the human brain can naturally pick up human language at a young age just by listening
yea, that's called acquiring a language. cool stuff, basically parents teach them what to say when they want something, they form the patterns in their brain, pick up nouns of different objects, then it keeps going till they form sentences and acquire the language.
And it's so fast because they have to constantly use the language, they get corrected, and gets feedback on whether their sentences are correct almost 24/7, and they don't need to translate it back to their native language like us, to understand things, the intuition is just built as they go
He just answered the question "what do you like to listen to" but I think what you say is pretty much true
Amazing young man. Polished and wise beyond his years. His sense of musical rhythm, style and arrangement are truly an inspiration. What a gift to the world replacing the current non-musical talents and noise with real joy to watch and listen!
The performance is so good, but it is so beautiful to see the two of them play happily
First time seeing a kid three times younger than myself absolutely kill it on piano without rethinking my life choices. I know this is an old video, but.. wonderfully done.
Wow! Just Wow! This little guy throws all the subtleties in there with ease. Bravo!!!!!
The amount of work put in, for such a young person, is seriously impressive. And man he plays so damn well.
Fantastic talent, the passion, the freedom, the love and respect for the style, the connection between both piano players and all the other musicians. So organic, so effortless, so free. PURE JAZZ! This performance embodies everything that jazz is. My favorite moment is 1:45 when Brandon invites Monty to a little musical game of Q&A. He looks at him like "C'mon you are not gonna join me" Delighful!
This was great -- seemed to me that the kiddo opened up and played a lot more adventurously after the gent sat down and played with him a bit. It was nice to see -- and I think he thrived on -- their interaction.
I am truly speechless he has a hear for music he has that loving touch of those pearly keys and I could sit and listen to him and watch his expression of pure enjoyment all night.
Fantastic! The mutual respect and this young man is clearly enjoying himself. Wonderful to see.
I think as you get older, you come to the point where you have to bow to greatness in humility. This young man is far greater than I shall ever be, but thank God for such natural talent! Wonderful! I take my hat off, as the saying goes. 10 out of 10. Exemplary!
I like when he says "I like to listen to Jazz" and whole crowd goes clap
Unbelievable. Gorgeous! I can't believe this sophisticated music is played by this very young man. Wow, you have great days ahead of you. Blessings forever on you and your family.
Wow... couldn't be better, I love it... Congratulations!
Beautiful performance... Your talent is OLD and it is coming from long time ago. Best wishes and thank you for this treat! ❤🌟
not only is he good, but he is having so much fun!
- I’d like to listen jazz…
*proceeds playing jazz*
This really gives me a BIG BIG SMILE!! The Young guy really Enjoys it!!
which soul has decided to be in this boys body ??!!
The kid is so talented.
I was fascinated with his play.
Wow. He plays like an adult. ! Style and comfort ❤
Fabulous...the syncopation...I sang with adults who could not get the rhythm and this child has it down pat....amazing....Sinatra would have loved it
That's adorable. I bet his parents are proud
my goodness what a talent
The little boy is too cute for words and by the look on his face, is having the best time ever
So this is what they mean when they say “entry level job, 10 years of experience”
I love to see how music can capture a lot more of the soul than words. I hear this kid's voice, and I think, 'he sounds young, naïve, and silly.' Then I hear his playing, and I think... 'this kid is more mature than any of my friends, who are way older than him.' And not just musically, either, I mean, I can tell that he is mature and grown as a person just from his playing. Music really tells a lot more than appearance.
Amazing boy! A prodigy for sure! He’s got a brilliant career ahead of him. ❤️
C'est beau cette complicité ; on dirait un grand père avec son petit fils ❤️
I’m incredibly similar to this kid.
I also like to listen to jazz 😎
Wow. His timing is impeccable!!!!!!
His improv is better than most jazz pianists 💀
That young man has some chops!!!!!
I knew another kid named "Tristan" who was my enemy but he was like this kid, he was good at the piano. I have to give Tristan some cred.
惚れ惚れする演奏
Makes me happy every time I watch it!
Age is not a number. Age is a word
thank you
Love this. Joy.
it was so wholesome when he and that man started playing the piano together ❤️
THIS is the reason I love jazz. it's too good!
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! Extremely talented. Must be at least one old soul in this impressive kid!
This kid is the best argument against tabula rasa - suggesting that when people are born, their minds are effectively a blank slate, so their experiences make them who they are.
Thanks for sharing!
Just wow!
HOLY MOLY!
That performance made a Fourth Impact in me
⛔⚠☢Maximum wholesome and heart-warming reached!!! ☢⚠⛔
You absolutely can play piano and organ at any age he is wonderful and has talent. ❤️🎼
This Young man is fantastic……..
Грандиозно! Юный музыкант просто великолепен!!
I'm actually more impressed by young kids like this who can freelance and improvise at a high level than kids who have learned a classical piece note for note but would be lost without the sheet music. This kid has the music inside him. He's not "learning it", he's "being it".
to improvise as he did, you need an amount of knowledge that you can't imagine. he is not just doing what he wants without a sheet. Its not like if classical music was just reading sheets and jazz improvising as you feel
There are many (not all) classical musicians that have the theory and ability to play jazz. They chose to stay pure to the classics. On the other hand there are many (most) jazz musicians who cannot perform the difficult classics.. They chose, and stick with jazz. Perhaps a lot more fun!
I am getting goosebumps on my Goosebumps
SO GREAT YOUNG KIDS WANT TO PLAY GREAT JAZZ!!
15 year old here who likes jazz to. keep it up buddy, do not let someone tell you you are to young.
That is such a nice man 😊👍
amazing !
Two words: Unbelievable! Amazing!
Thank you so much!
This is like a blanket for my brain
Oh wow don’t kids or should I more accurately say from a more spiritual perspective “angels” like Brandon shine their musical “light” over and restore our faith in the Divine/God (if indeed it needed restoring), humanity and all the rest of it! Sheer joy!
Absolutely incredible!!! A Genius !!!!!
Wow!
What a genius and hes playing Sinatra omg
Wouaouh!!!!
Gifted and blessed!
Wow…..amazing. Well done kid 😊
Everyone feels like a boss until Joey Alexander comes to the piano
Wow ❤
Shivers.......
He's a virtuoso. Fantastic.
Hey! Thanks so much for this video!
If you want to never have wars again, let children play music
Kurt Elling's face at 2:30 says it all!
What a talent!!!!
What a talent!
I'm speechless
In the words of my nephew:
"Holy Smoke!!!" 👏👏👏
WOW!
you are an awsome artist now .
1:14 It is the time you look for your dady to say : It is me dady playing
asian : i mastered that at 2
Okay. The kid's just playing from an arrangement, pre-practiced, nice, whee simple but cute. *starts comping* ...holy
This isn't about you. It's about him. I'm glad you had piano skills, but quite frankly, at the moment, we don't care.
WOW... Just WOW... I figured it was gonna be some robotic piece that had been practised over and over because of overbearing parents. Man was I ever wrong. I think I found who Duke Ellington got reincarnated as. This kid has the soul of a lifelong jazz musician.
Awesome ❤❤❤
Fly me to the moon. He played it well.
ça promet!
Pls look up “stick around” by mr. Wobbles and Markus Veltri! This jazz sounds a LOT like this song!
Phenomenal 👏
Deu meu!!! Quants anys te la criatura!!! Genial, fantastic, maravellòs!!!!!
I just hate people calling him a prodigy. This little guy put so much work into piano and music theory just to be called very talented. Remember guys, talent is a human construct. It doesn't exist. Hard work is what pays off and makes you great or greatest.
As someone who teaches music, private piano lessons, to young young children, this kid definitely has raw talent. He understand how to comp and voice chords on the fly, not only that his improvising is extremely mature. He could have been playing the piano every day since the day he came out of the womb and not be this good. Not saying he hasn't worked incredibly hard but he definitely is musically gifted.
I would love to be called talented lmao I put in allot of hard work so people call me talented I dont want people to say I worked hard
@@connorthomas4826 well said!
