Tea For Two- all-time jazz classic, enjoy! Sheet music trivia (please reply to this thread): what are the exact names of the two scales which can be played over the chord in m.35, and what (numerical) type of scale are they?
B whole - half dim scale and Bb half - whole dim scale (although, as a disciple of Barry Harris I only consider the half-whole variant to be the only dim scale). I don't get your 2nd question
You keep good company. Thank you for sharing your privilege with us. For we would not otherwise be able to enjoy such beautiful music which reaches only a lucky few.
In general, I hate it when people clap while the performance. I don't care if its Pop, Jazz or whatever. It's just disturbing in my ears. But this was an impressing performance 👍🏻
Me: such an easy piece I am going to totally learn it Few minutes in; mmm just forget, I need to climb the ladder properly😩 Why are people clapping like that😬
WoW! By seeing it written out, one can see the little tricks Plat does. The Spanish grandmaster on guitar, Segovia, said in a masterclass: "The secret is that if something is difficult for you, there is something you do wrong." Someone else can play it with ease so it is playable with ease. Everything else means there are one or more wrong moves or faulty thoughts involved.
Wow! What a way to think about difficulty, that really brings things into perspective, thanks for sharing; I'll apply this to my learning on the piano.
@@TimothyGondola Hi Timothy, I want to bring to your attention that, as far as I know, it is not possible to achieve high levels of proficiency on the piano in one life. A friend of mine who is a top talent, as they say, told me that he was a concert pianist in a former life and a struggling pianist before that. He went into modern music. He could not stand to have to play a Mozart concerto for the 10.000th time. Remembering the past has advantages and disadvantages. A half-friend of mine thought he was improvising in a classical manner for ballet lessons. He asked to come along and then have a beer. I discovered various classical fragments. He was completely unaware he was playing actual phrases. It shocked him. He thought he was hired for his improvisations but in actual fact they hired him because he mixed 'known' classical stuff all up. The ballet teachers thought he did it on purpose, consciously. But he didn't . He went to a psych and he got drugs and he could not do it any more. He never played piano again. So, be careful with this knowledge.
Thank you so much for transcribing the live version of Pierre Yves Plat, I presume he makes tons of improvisations and this one is a masterpiece!... I had bought his CDs but those are not like this version
What is the general style of the swing section (1:23) called? It just gives me the feels for some reason and I’d like to research some resources on it so I can compose something similar, but it’d be easier with a wider range of similar music so I don’t end up just copying this wholesale, so if anyone does know of similar pieces (for any instruments) or what the style is called please be a lovely human and tell me :D
An excellent transcription - clearly written, and it must have been great fun to do! Something about this piece seems to invite imaginative arrangements - see Cliff Jackson's version (here on UA-cam). Great job.
I love seeing your hands and the sheet music too! Amazing! I used to play but wasn't very good at it; I could only play what I saw on the sheet and nothing this difficult, lol!
I still think Tatum’s is insuperable. Though this one is superior by way of contrasting styles, I think Tatum is the master of this piece; no one can play it without the adumbration of his shade.
There are a few parts where he plays the eighth notes very deliberately straight as a contrast to the rest, maybe mark those in the score somehow? Otherwise, absolutely phenomenal transcription, holy shit. I could barely read this at speed, let alone transcribe it (let alone play it!!)

Almost died when they started clapping on 1 and 3
Shouldn't they clap on 1 and 3?
(Honest question)
@@IolcanPK No, you always clap on 2 and 4, because in most modern music the emphasized beats are 2 and 4.
If they clapped on 2 and 4 it'd sound like disco. Leave them be.
Why did you tell me that I'm getting anxious waiting for it to start...
DaveDexterMusic nah dude when you count of for a swing tune you gotta emphasize 2 and 4
i’ve never smiled so much listening to a piece of music
ME TOO
Im in the break room and people must think im texting my imaginary boyfriend or something 😂
me tooooo))))
“Look at your audience and smile”
“Pull your sleeves back”

4:30 catch the Mario kart coconut mall theme

Aaron Meinzer lol
@@scriabinismydog2439 i see you are here as well
Oh for God's sake if you must clap, do it in time!
Can you please explain why the flaps were not on time?
Raphael R. They were off tempo
@@IolcanPK there's probably some delay
@@BrunoNeureiter even if there is, they're still clapping on 1 and 3 on a swing tune 👀

Pierre, in my opinion, has one of the best techniques in jazz piano.
Also his improvisation skills are insane....
Haha love it when the audience spontaneously starts clapping along but struggles to keep the beat
"on" 1 and 3 as well 🤦
Real pain
Love that part when it just slides into Bossa Nova for a good 10 seconds.
Same!
Timestamp?
@@Pat4ever.I imagine you probably found it by now but 3:36 is what you're looking for
@@harry_dum7721 Thanks yeah it's actually more of a salsa (it literally says salsa at the top) but yes thank you again
the salsa variation is so addictive
i need an arrangement of tea for two based on this variation only
Check out sangah noonas version
Just casually mentioning that you played tatum's tea for two, that's impressive stuff
i love that it says avec joie et malice when it switches to swing, its just so cute
This transcription is incredibly exciting, out of all versions, I like this one the most. Excellent playing, thank you!
there’s no way this is on my level for piano music, but, someday i hope to learn this and bring smiles to many faces as i play :)
Swing | Avec joie et malice is the best description ever
"avec joie et malice" -> this is a quality line
Been a long time fan of pierre and glad to see more and more recognition going his way. Love everything he does
I like the instruction at 4:33 "look at your audience and smile"
Yeah, it's a really nice break and you can almost hear the smile
I had to listen to this twice in a row. Loved the salsa part, unexpected.

Sheet music trivia (please reply to this thread): what are the exact names of the two scales which can be played over the chord in m.35, and what (numerical) type of scale are they?
I guess you could play one of the octatonic scales over the diminished 7th
I'm not so sure what you mean but here I go... B Altered Dominant Scale?
B whole - half dim scale and Bb half - whole dim scale (although, as a disciple of Barry Harris I only consider the half-whole variant to be the only dim scale).
I don't get your 2nd question
This is probably wrong, but I thought of 6th diminished scale. My knowledge is pretty limited in jazz, but I'm trying
@@ThuyKobe Good enough! I was also looking for- octatonic scale. Contact me here and I'll send you the PDF timothygondola.com/contact

Thank you, thank you for publishing this piano transcription.
This is sounding less like two people having tea and more like a tap dance in the rain
Интрига состоит не в чаепитии, а в том, что было ожидаемо и что случилось после! 🎉

Audience engagement is a core part of jazz culture. Problem is, this is a mixed style piece so the audience is rightly confused
I sometimes find that clapping helps. Whenever Ive heard people clapping to Radensky march it made it sound so much better.
Only clap if someone animates you to
this speed and complexity is insane!
I am a sucker for these jazzy arpeggios
The 152 dislikes are the people that are getting bullied because they can’t clap in time
Wonderful. How can you not smile throughout the entire piece? Beautifully played.
Here we see the problem with jazz-classical music. Both have 2 different audience expectations so being a live audience is just confusing
4:33 “Regardez votre publique et souriez”
“Look at your audience and smile”
"Regardez votre pubilic et souriez" 😂 Love your annotations!
Glad you caught it ;)
I’ve been horribly sad all morning but this made me feel so much better. Such happy happening music❤️
Man, you are fantastic! Congratulations! Please, make the transcription of Claude Bolling's arrangement!

As a fellow pianist who likes to challenge himself and play crazy shit, I can officially confirm this song is impossible to play, this guy is an alien
