I like the Crab Claw dude thing with the arm because that's kind of something discussed in the manga: why full body cyborgs are inherently stronger than partial cyborgs. Namely, the big cyborg arm is only as strong as the joint. The joint includes where it attaches to your shoulder or whatever. Although in the manga it has chibi Batou lifting a huge weight, and his arm falling off, and the Major easily lifting it. Because she was full and he wasn't. Whereas this Batou is really, really cyborged. Maybe not 100 percent, but a LOT. Enough that he can laugh at point blank grenade explosions.

I like this because it's as if they decided to make a cool children's toy design of a cyborg fight a grounded somewhat realistic cyborg with military and police experience.
2:29 Weird thing to mention but I love that the animators of this scene made the guns feel heavy. Great point. I find one of the biggest problems with modern CGI is there's no mass to the objects. People can subconsciously tell that an actor in front of a green screen is pretending to interact with something that has no genuine weight, and thus no real presence. Kinda crazy that by going that extra mile to give a prop a real sense of weight and mass, an animated film looks more "realistic" than a Hollywood blockbuster.

@@bacondropped From what I understand, just pulling out their gun requires a cop to fill out multiple forms. The two of them probably had to basically write an equivalent amount to The Hobbit, to explain the massacre. 15 pages worth of that, would be explaining why they showed up with a belt fed LMG in the first place. If Hot Fuzz has taught us anything about cops, is that it involves obscene amounts of paperwork. Actual cops like Hot Fuzz is BECAUSE it actually shows them doing tedious police procedure and paperwork. More accurate to being a cop than Lethal Weapon.
Japanese content with guns seems to have a precision that American media lacks. It seems ironic until you realize that half of America *wants* to be ignorant about guns, while the Japanese generally have no strong feelings either way and are just keen on having accurate depictions of whatever they do.
I was very disappointed in this scene when I first saw it. I mean, Batou and Togusa enter the Yakuza hideout and start blasting. I wanted a long shootout but Batou finishes them off in like 30 seconds. Then a giant cyborg with swiss army arm appears. I wanted a long fight but Batou finishes him off in like 30 seconds. That was 20 years ago. Now I see the true genius of the scene. Batou is a goddamn tank. There's no reason for him to drag these fights, he's the best of the best so obviously he'll just walk over them. It's only now that I noticed many awesome details, like 1:59 the guy using a badass cannon he obviously didn't train with much, because the recoil from the only shot he fired made him knock himself out. Awesome.
With the risk of vision being hacked, I can’t imagine how anyone who believes violence might come into their lives would sign up for/leave such an augmentation in their brain.
It’s explained that in at least Section 9 the guys (Kusanagi had a severe medical condition that necessitated a complete cyborg body at a young age which was eventually upgraded once her active duty ended and she went to Section 9) are all former military and chose next level body modifications that were necessary because of a combination of injury and need because they are Japan’s top cybersecurity, counterterrorism and Interdiction unit. It’s kinda convoluted but that’s the best I can reckon after twenty five years of watching all the shows/series/movies 😂

GiTS 2 really had that Noir feel more than the OG did I feel.
"You don't need to be a Yakuza to go to the Yakuza headquarters" and "we'll try to avoid shooting" are my favorite quotes from Batou
Batou knew Togusa could hold his own (Togusa's true cop instincts is what got him in section 9), that's why he let him come.
I can't shake the feeling that for an un-enhanced police officer, Togusa is well above average. He does, however, have his limitations.
@@floydjohnson7888 The Major explains it in the anime. Togusa is well above average, but as you says has his limitations. Section 9 wants him because he has a different perspective that the rest of the team with their cyber augmentations. Diversity of opinion and not just raw capability is important as well.
@@LeblueLegume Good point, o keen bean
@@LeblueLegume "Over specialize and you breed your own weaknesses....it's slow death."
@@LeblueLegume It isn't just diversity of opinion, Togusa with his minimal augmentations is also a lot more resistant to hacking due to having way less points of failure/entry
Imagine how awesome Cyberpunk 2077 could've been if you could be as badass as Batou
Batou tried so hard to avoid shooting "as much as possible" but he just couldnt.... ¡¡¡YEAH RIGHT!!!
My late mom totally had a thing for Batou. I can see why.
Rip your mom, she had good taste.
R.i.p your mom
"it was the face of death" such a reassuring guy
+max barnett lol so he pretty much said: all you could see was your wife and child? nope. those aren't your wife and child. those are clearly the corpses of the guys who got rekt. moving on.
Terminator: Stealth is optionnal
Batou: Yeah sure buddy
Wow, amazing. Love this anime. That guy with the big crab looking knife looks really cool. I wonder if he was just an android or a member that just went through the process of getting modified and cyberized in such a way. So interesting :D
props to the guy in front and middle with a knife in the second wave
Yeah, but he litterally 'brought a knife to an all-out gunfight!' - song by Nickelback. ;)
This 5 minutes beats 90% of all modern anime lol.
It really does.

I am surprised I still stand by what I said 3 years ago.
@@civilwarfare101 it's a movie what the you expect
@@tyroneidahosa1316
Anime series are better than movies though. Movies just look nicer.
@@civilwarfare101 supposedly but anime nowadays just drags out and are two episodeic
the weapons are so beautiful :3
I can't get over how beautiful this move was.
Togusa's face at 1:34 XD
"There we go, five more pages to my report"
@@EvilPaladin11 they are a special forces unit so probably much less paper work would be needed.
This is why I love Ghost in the Shell.
3:50
I love when you can tell they did their research on the gun before actually putting it in a scene.
Awesome.
You don't take on the Yakuzas all by yourself... on least you have a bigger gun, or you're Batou… or both.
CRAB BATTLE OLIOLIOLIO
The Crab Guy was voiced by the late Bob Papenbrook in the Manga TV dub, and Joe Romersa in the Animaze redub
+xTommyGirlx It broke..it......it broke my knife!
HRRRRN HRRRGHGH CRAB BATTLE
Richard Epcar also voice Raiden from Mortal kombat as well as the joker. I can recognize that badass grown voice anywhere👍👍👍
I've seen this clip a million times and it never stops being awesome.
GODDAMN THIS SHIT LOOKS GORGEOUS!
Welcome to metal gear?
The animation is beautiful!! Well done!
The animation in this movie looks fantastic.
Fuck it. I love this movie already.
Ohhhhh, you better watch it first lololol, the movie is frikking amazing, but...... it took me 3 views to finally understand it.
This is ghost in the shell 2 innocence?
Until 1:04 This conversation is way too cool. I can feel their characters. Not to mention the general quality of the frames.
When you try to persuade an Yakusa mob but you know your Charisma has -4
3:57 Very Battle Angel Alita-ish. Love these older Anime vids.
@@chrisdooley1184Yeah Section 9’s abilities and hardware are way beyond your typical thug, hacker or cop and brain hacking isn’t actually that common because of how hard it is to do.
This exchange was so one-sided. Batou vs those gangsters. It was so unfair because they didn't stand a chance.
"Go get em"
1:26
"Or dont, I came prepared either way."
Batou, an armored, virtually un-killable battle cyborg: “I’ll go first”
Togusa, a regular human: “I’ll go first, we need to shoehorn a scene about the deepness and fragility of human mortality into this film somehow”
Shut up Batou’s ass is simply too big
That's weird. In the version I have, Togusa says "I thought you were going to avoid shooting," and Batou replies "I did...for as long as possible." I find that way funnier than "I tried, I swear!"
Also, after he fights Crab Man, Batou criticizes his kick, saying something like "Flashy moves like that don't work in a real fight"
@@mortified0 There were two dubs, one that was technically closer to the original script and this one. I only know cause I have a DVD with both dubs (along with the original Japanese audio), that being said, on a personal note, I prefer this one.
He is my 2nd favorite character; first is Motoko Kusanagi
I love the chemistry between Richard Epcar’s Batou and Crispin Freeman’s Togusa. Feels really organic.
2:03 finally learned something from Major eh? Batou?
The "SAC" continuity's TV-movie ("Solid State Society") sees him sort-of replicate Kusanagi's high-rise jump
1:59 As Revolver Goon sent himself backwards, the gag dub would have had Batou thinking, "Even Mullet Man would call him an amateur."
that is still one of my favorite anime movies to this day, and that scene is a big reason why.
"He pulled out a .22, so I brought out my light machine gun."
In the minority here but I love this film better than the first. Love me some Batou.
I may be a philistine for saying this..... but...... so do i lol
Dalton Young same here. It felt to me like the characters and world were more fleshed out, and overall the suspense and tension were played better. But, a lot of that wouldn't have been possible without the background the original set up
I know what you guys mean; most of the movies and series focused on the Major (even S.A.C. - my fave!) And only a few episodes actually focused on the other characters!
Both are good, honestly
the first gets so hih on itself it's beautiful, only to then get memed on by the second one which somehow manages to come off as technically superior, while being on par in any other aspects besides maybe the gettin hih part. yada yada my mind was blown
I love how after the first yakuza gets up and talks togusa is just staring at the blanket coverd gun like hey whatcha got there
+TheInvertedmind I don't think Togusa is staring at the blanket. He is staring at the yakuza who must have been knocked out by Batou by the door.
+satox your right I didn't see them the first time XD
One yakuza dislike this.
I am starting to dislike Batou, hes too damn fat and i don't know just weird when hes alone, he seems like he needs a girl.... Boring Batou!
+Johnny Rekall of all the things you could criticize his character for...lmao....
lol
Love the dubbing in this. It seems Ghost in the Shell, any version, has been consistent with having just wonderful voice acting. I haven't seen one movie or series that has had a bad one yet. They all seem to fit.
+srpghost I agree, this is a series i can watch in english or in japanesse and enjoy it a lot, the dub was very well done.
For some reason I prefer english sub titles and the original language. The words feel like they have more weight. Same goes for Ninja Scroll. Although maybe that's just me.

Its alright. But I miss the movies and SAC cast a lot.
Cool that the actors that played raiden of Mortal Kombat also played Batou both in the same order of the two.
the opening dialog is absolutely hilarious
The attention to detail is what I miss about the older anime. Nowadays the artwork seems devoid of atmosphere.
Badass scenes like this is exactly what is missing in movies & anime nowadays...
So this is what, the second film, Innocence?
+ElleRoni Yes
+Jesus Christ Thanks, Jesus
トグサの英語の声優さん、日本語の山ちゃんとそっくりじゃん!すごい!
The animation is incredible.
Batou is a goddamn beast, I love how nonchalant he is and how little of a fuck he actually gives
Batou rules: Shoot yakuza first when they show up there weapon first even if they not try to shoot you
0:26
"Batou, why do you have a gun?'
"I just want to talk to him, I just want to talk to him!"
Best scene in the movie lol, Batou is total badass
Togusa: "We're only gonna chat with these guys. No Shooting."
Yakuza: *exists*
Batou: " *_Peace was never an option_* "
The most amazing part is that 249 shooting the belt without any malfunction.
I mean iirc they can download any skills necessary to minimize malfunctions, and I'd bet that by this point in the future someone designed a more robust version. In the modern world they're useful, but when one person can move and use it at the same time there's more incentive to make the weapon reliable.
Interesting bit of detail; when Batou sprays the floor in front of Wakabayashi with that machine pistol, the guy pisses himself XD
