Nice video Branden and that looks like a sweet rental.
Good video... I bumped into a couple at a charging station at Ardmore Oklahoma. They were given one of these at an Avis in Dallas They had no idea they were going to get an electric car, and have no idea how to charge it. Plus they were headed to the Wichita mountains north of Lawton Oklahoma and that's trashy BTC hardware Francis land. I did everything I could do to help them I got them charging at the EA in Ardmore with my account because the credit card reader wasn't working. I told them the credit card readers on the Francis stations didn't work at Lawton that they would need the app. I'm sure they're a trip wasn't pleasant.
Yeah I had a guy confront me at a charger accusing me of blocking a charging station. He didn’t know it was a EV. No apology or nothing when the car said charging started.
I Always look forward to your videos
Nice! Hyundai kia max at 105kw, and the new ev9 is only 85kw.
Pleasant surprise to see this, I wonder if all will see this upgrade in future models.
Heck, could I dream of a firmware update to boost older versions?
Dare to dream.
probably has to do with actual different motors for genesis, so don't expect fw to change anything for the better - tesla updated the chargers which makes the ioniq5 family at least "acceptable" nowadays ;-)
Brandon your correct. I have one. The max I’ve ever managed to get out of EA is 187kw and I was there 22 minutes with a warm pack. Worst/ longest charge time was 48 minutes but it was all my fault, ice cold pack below freezing and I didn’t use the cars navigation so the car didn’t precondition and I drove it down to 8%.
Cool! Nice surprise to get ~40kW extra. Front charge port seems easy from a plugging in standpoint, but I agree, it could get pretty nasty in bug season.
Oh you don’t need bug season. I road trip 90%+ at night. I keep baby wipes in the trunk! Going through Fl, GA, SC, NC nights and back roads it gets bad.
Hey Branden I just Videoed 179kW ona ID 4 at a Magic Dock in Minnesota (I uploaded youtube earlier today) Looks Tesla just updated the software for non Teslas. Your reaction was funny wait what 122k kW because i reacted the same .. I was like woah 172 , 173 179kW lol . btw.. my battery was like 57F , it was 35F outside and I started right off at around 140kW (%10 SOC). and that was without battery preconditioning as you know the ID 4 does not have it. I am going to run a full %10-80% on the MagicDock ina few days
That’s normal for ID.4 though
@@brandenflasch as long as you start less than 20% . So many are still upset thay arent pulling more than 80kW on ID 4 .. just trying to educate on (especially with EVs without preonditioning) they need to be charging at less than 20% ..10% if they can with the ID 4 an no matter the temps they wil get a good charge.
Genesis ..just watched your latest vid as well, yeah it has some nice features like the rear and side sshades and rear passengers able to set heat/ac to their preference (thinking froma Uber driver perspective) thins the ID 4 does not have BUT the vehicle it self ...yeah just does nothing for me..reminds me of Kyles Coda lol . For Uber I really think the ID Buzz would be great , I have 3 locla Colleges/University and students would love it. Hate the idea of going backwards owith range though.. Kia 9 when they start coming off 2 years leases ..
anyway Genesis G80 , just a bit to old school sedan vibe for me ..and Im old shool ! ;)
Great video, Branden. I've never seen a Kia/Hyundai go any higher than 97kw on a Magic Dock due to that rear motor inverter limit. Could it be because it's not a true E-GMP platform? Otherwise, why would the higher amp make a difference?
Different inverter
@@brandenflasch Ah... so it is a different inverter. Hopefully, they're upgrading it on ALL their new E-GMP platform EVs now that they're joining the Supercharger network. Thanks for the info.
@@Paul-cj1wb tesla will be upgrading to higher voltages as they upgrade to v4 (I assume in many cases they'll use NEVI funding for it... we'll see)
Branden, do you know if the Magic Docks are still limited to 350A? Or did they raise it to 500A?
They’re able to do 500A now
I do think Tesla should make the end stalls for non Tesla vehicles and this would allow more wiggle room for the old CCS1 vehicles to get in a better position to plug in with those short cables. Also new brands should position the charge post to the left rear and or right front. 2024 should be a very big improvement of DC fast chargers in North America. I think DC fast charging will only get better this year forward.
Thank you for this in-depth video Branden! It's interesting to hear that the G80's voltage is only around 600 volts. That is especially surprising coming from an EV6, which is also part of the E-GMP family. My car's voltage is firmly in the 700 volt range. So I guess the G80's voltage is closer to the EV9, since the EV9 is also a low 800 volt vehicle.
Don't you think that the long wait for Hyundai Kia Genesis vehicles gaining Supercharger access is because Tesla needs to reconfigure the Superchargers to output up to 1000 volts? I highly doubt Tesla will open up the Superchargers to E-GMP vehicles without reconfiguring them, because then we'll hit a max power level of about 100 kW, give or take. Giving us supercharger access without reconfiguring would lead to a suboptimal user experience and a lot of slow charging complaints.
I suspect they’ll open them ahead of 1000V support
@@brandenflasch I hope so -- guess we'll see on what timeframe Tesla will open it up. Their end goal is 1000 volt support since Cybertruck needs that for peak charging. Also retrofitting to V4 dispensers will solve the charge port placement issue with V4's longer cables.
I’m planning to get my first electric next week, which will be the G80, can you tell me how much it cost you to charge that one from 21%? I know you said it was 0.49/kWh…but I honestly don’t know anything to calculate.
What’s making you go with a G80 as your first EV?
Branden, was there any reason why you didn’t identify the location of this charging station? I’m just curious as a Genesis GV 60 owner.
It’s outside Ann Arbor, MI, but any Magic Dock site would be exactly the same.
What app did you use to activate the charge?
The Tesla app as shown
Brandon, is the cable not long enough so you don't have to block another stall? I see the site is not that busy, just wounded if it would reach?
This idea of blocking a stall needs to go away
@brandenflasch No. Dead wrong. If new non Tesla vehicles start talking two stalls when they can park on the end. Will end in lots of posting of drivers being A holes.
@davidws5439 Tesla drivers do not own Superchargers.
I have a Niro EV, and I was thinking that my front charging port would work fine with the positioning of the super chargers. However, based on this video, it looks like the cable is too short, and I’ll have to block 2 stalls as well.
@@brandenflaschI like your point of view. Thoughts on Bolt EVs sticking around for over an hour?
Great video! Tesla should be taking notes on how to make a proper luxury car, the Genesis looks AMAZING.
I have a tour video coming, but I wasn’t very impressed
interesting@@brandenflasch
I am Impressed, did not think on a 800 volt Hyundai platform to get 122KW, that is actually a lot better than I have seen others get, Tesla must have change it up!
Nope, just a stronger booster
I think having the plug in the front seems like the best location. You dont have to back up. You can park on city streets and use sidewalk chargers. Seems like the best location to me.
You still have to back up to leave. I prefer rear charge ports except on vehicles that might tow.
Backing in a spot is easier than backing out, and safer. I think automakers should standardize on the charge port being in the left rear side like Tesla has done.
Front, rear…you can argue which is better but clearly on the front of the front instead of the side is a bad location. Who wants to deal with bug juice when trying to charge? They put it there for their convenience, not for buyer’s convenience.
He’s parked in the wrong spot isn’t he.
I didn’t hear him mention trying it from the correct spot.
There is no right or wrong spot.
@@brandenflasch
Are you really trying to amplify a failing argument?
If the last open spot is on your driver side no EV, Tesla or otherwise, would be able to charge.
Why not?
@@brandenflasch
You’re kidding right? Say yes so that others don’t think you’re dumb.
Are you really saying it would be completely unusable?
What a ridiculously ugly car.
What a ridiculously ugly your eyes.
That is one ugly looking car
Disagree
It's nicer looking than 90% of the other EVs on the market. Looks like money and quality. Teslas are cheap boring econo-boxes next to Genesis.
1) Mercedes, BMW fans who perceive "luxury" as something that they ASPIRE to, with OPULENCE, VANITY (these ppl care about how much better they feel MENTALLY just by how it looks or how it makes them look)
2) value based luxury seeker who wants the top of the line /fully loaded car regardless of brand recognition or aesthetics (some TACTILE options/features/creature-comforts, when omitted, make that car a deal breaker regardless of how it looks).
The top 0.1% rich typically go for the latter of the above -for "understated luxury"- they DON'T go with any recognizable brands like Luis Vuitton/ COACH - they want to feel luxury with tactility, not based on how they think they are perceived by others /how others view them.
This is the worst video you’ve put up. You’re surprised that the rate goes up during the first few minutes of charging? You aren’t getting that great of rate but blabber away, wow wow. Then you speculate that it will hold the beginning rate all the way instead of actually going all the way to 80 or 100% and showing what it will do. Then you’re arguing with people commenting you are not properly positioned at the charger and you know you are wrong. At least try to position correctly, comment on whether the cable will reach and reposition to inconvenience Tesla owners the least and still charge. Redo the video. You are better than this.
I am surprised because the booster is the limiting factor and 90kW is normal on all other Hyundai / Kia high voltage EVs on Superchargers (500V limited). I tested charging on another charger to know it holds over 120kW until 70+%.
Thanks for the reply, Brandon.
Why even bother with a genesis vehicle? Those cars are junk, they breakdown too much.
Electrified Genesis is not the same as ice model.
Why even bother commenting you can't even afford to move out of your parent's closet. Move on keyboard warrior.👋
