I can’t thank you enough. It’s almost Christmas time and our dryer and refrigerator both went out at the same time 😞. We have 5 children. The purple wire was the culprit. Got it replaced and now dryer is heating just fine. Thanks again I have subscribed as well. Happy Holidays my friend.
great video as ever, our dryers in the uk are tiny undercounter units tho, you hardly ever see u.s imports like this. seen a few giant whirlpool dryers from the u.s here tho
Generally the UK dryers especially the hotpoint you can access the heater and thermostat / safety switches from the rear panel without dismantling the drum. The main problem is the over-temp one shot switch going open caused by interrupting the dryer in heating cycle, selecting fan only before unloading cools things off. Other fault is the control board heating relay becoming oxidised or burnt, a replacement relay are available and are cheaper than a new control board.
I like to call it "Union Wiring Special", it's a prime example of what makes these tin-can top-load type washers and dryers (which are made in the US using 60+ year old tooling by people who will strike at the notion of having to improve anything on their appliances) so much worse than what comes from LG or even GE's Haier (Chinese) arm....

Very complete explanation. Thanks 😊
I accidentally had my old whirlpool dryer circa late 90s swapped for a new hotpoint. I'm not sure if I like it yet. What are their reputations?
