As of today, Frontier have patched Planet Coaster with performance optimizations, more prebuilt rides/buildings to use, and an optional harder difficulty mode for challenge maps. That's three of my main complaints about the game talked about in my review, and they're already starting to address them. A promising future indeed :)
The whole simulation still lacks in depth, so I hope they will go deeper into fixing the whole management issue. I agree this was a first step but I doubt the December update is going to bring a big fix (YET).
About challenge mode. Is that possible to play with only charging for the park entry and shops? Because I don't want to be an asshole park owner by charging money for rides and coasters, that's just not okey IMO. But last time I tried, I basically had to charge for everything, to even have enough money to do anything.
Good luck playing this game. I checked his pc specs and he has a videocard of 650 USD (a GTX 980 ti) and he plays on low. 99% of the gamers have a videocard worse than this one.
Ashley Johansson a 980ti was 650 USD at launch price if not more and a half year ago it would still retail for 600 USD. In terms of performance yes the 1070 outstrips the 980ti but not by more than 10%. Even now a 1070 can hardly be found for 400 USD and most are sold over 500 usd to be fair. Then again the point was to say that this game isn't optimized. It basically won't run well on a 1070 either which is what my friend has and he saw dips under 30 fps 1080p on low settings when the park was getting very crowded filled with attractions. It doesn't matter that much if it is 400 or 600 usd (over here it is 600 USD because we pay a lot of taxes). The fact remains that this game is trash performing and shouldn't get so much glory because most systems won't run it well at all.
They already took that ability away in RCT3. (All your guests in that game did when they made contact with water outside of a pool complex was endlessly swim around until they either reached a shoreline they could walk on or you manually picked them up and dropped them back on land.)
I'm not going to lie, I LOVE the new custom coaster interface. It lets you build your own coaster pieces, instead of selecting from a menu of predesigned track pieces. To me, that was the biggest thing holding the series back from being a true theme park simulator. That, combined with the new path interface, is making it so you can legitimately build versions of your favorite parks since you can build custom curves, lengths, and widths of the paths. It's honestly one of my favorite features, making things like queue lines asymmetrical so it feels more natural, with scenery that only doesn't place if you are directly touching the object you want to put it around. Got this game the day it came out, and I'm so glad I did. This game is exactly the rollercoaster tycoon sequel I wanted it to be, even though it's not TECHNICALLY Rollercoaster Tycoon. I've already logged 17 hours on this game, and I'm just a casual gamer.
Brad Grimm I think it’s alright but I wish they did give you a setting in the options menu to have the piece by piece system but I bet they haven’t because it isn’t rct and it might be a licensing issue or trade marked or I dunno 😂
Same, I made a theme park on my old laptop but the more items I placed the more laggy the game got, but now I have a new desktop computer and I've logged +18 hours in 3 days
This is a very fair review of the game. I didn't have the difficulties you are having with paths or coaster creation (although, it can be daunting at times), but there certainly is a learning curve for which the game does not assist you with. Planet Coaster is a lot like other good Sim games, you have to be willing to make your own fun. It's basically a giant tool kit with about 90% of the tools working as intended.
I've been watching your videos for several years now, and I have to say, not only have you kept the quality of your videos up in all that time, but they've gotten progressively better. Keep up the good work.
I like the sound of Planeteers. Having wide open worlds would really add to the game experience. (Sigh, Sims 4 isn't open world.) I would spend so much time exploring in a Sims game if the world could look like that. I'd love to be able to make acres of parks. A travelling or hiking element would be something I'd really enjoy.
The problem that everybody forgets is that open world and Create-A-Style were extremely taxing for most computers and it's one of the root causes of lag in The Sims 3. They were too ambitious for the time, should've waited until the 2020s to experiment with this kind of thing. They wanted The Sims 4 to run on low-end machines. I really don't mind the fact that they went back to the lot system, the only thing is that worlds (cities) should be bigger and have more lots. Open world also caused issues with routing and regeneration of Sims, so much that even ten years after the release of the game, there are still glitches, freezing and lag even on the best of computers. The game is also programmed in a way that allows overheating of components. I literally fried a PC with the game and there was a guy that reported extreme temperatures when playing TS3.
I love your reviews so much. They're honest, you're voice is soothing as hell, and these ultimately make me decide wether I buy the game or not. Thank you.
Planet Coaster > RollerCoaster Tycoon. Cities Skylines > SimCity 2013. Now we just need someone to give the Sims 4 some competition. Clearly the new developers are willing to put in the work, time, effort, and passion that their predecessors are not.
i still think roller coaster tycoon 3 is better than planet coaster, as u have animals and water parks and had more rides as well, you just have less building potentinal on rct3.
I remember when I first subbed to your channel Clint, you had a 4 digit subscriber base and would answer almost every single comment. It is good to see you enjoy your much deserved success, thanks for continuing to put out quality content. P.S. More Tech Tales please and Happy Holidays!!!

Ah, the humor of LGR... I looked at the part at 7:35, and once it dawned on me what I was looking at, I laughed for a good half a minute at it. I like how this guy doesn't rub the funny stuff in your face, but in a way allows you to find it for yourself.
Ever since RCT3 decided to become all but unplayable on any AMD card made after 2010, I've really been needing a good game that I can just make crazy 3D coasters in. To hell with managment and visual fluff, I just want to make a ride so dubious that not even a bootleg Chinese theme park would let you ride it. I'm a selfish player, sorry park guests. If this can do that for me, I think I'm all but sold. If only buying new games didn't feel like such a gamble, but what can you do. Great video as always!

OMG The name of the coaster at 7:35. I had such high hopes for RCTWorld, and after watching some of the first videos - could not have been more disappointed.
I actually bought the soundtrack last night. Some of the tracks are really good! And it's a billion times better than Roller Coaster Tycoon World's soundtrack, which sounds like... Elevator music, or something.
I can only imagine the insane amount of laughter that came at the expense of those poor digital souls being murdered by a rollercoaster hurtling toward them at 200 mph. I hope we get a LGR Plays.
I've been comparing this game to one of my childhood favs Thrillville ever since I started seeing gameplay of it, so its funny to realize that they made that game.
Awesome review, I played Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 a lot! Had to watch this review to see if it was worth it and it met my maker. I didn't even know of your channel until now. Happy to watch your newer reviews in my sub box.
Thanks for the review. What I love about them is that you're unbiased and say things like they are. I've got RCT3 running on my M17X-R2 that thinks it's not capable of running properly so I'm going to look at the other Roller Coaster games you mentioned :)
The staff of Planet Coaster said in one of there live streams that there gonna add Rides that are not actually in the game. like they mentioned, Go Karts, Bumper karts, ect.
I've been going back and forth about purchasing this game. The same complaint across the board is the lagginess, but this may be exactly the chance I need as I've been in gaming A.D.D. mode due to boredom.
Ok, I had this super long reply bc goddamn this game gives me so many emotions, but I won't subject you to my impossibly long repliea. Ahem, basically, everything that was lined out in the video is 100% true. This game is fun and immensely creative but can be tedious, and easily gets bogged down by its own greatness once a park gets reasonably complex (somewhere around 5 rides and 500 is when I have to lower the settings from ultra). Even so, when the graphics are on ultra (and even medium settings, actually), this game is absolutely breathtaking to look at, imo. And the only thing LGR didn't seem to mention is that even on ultra settings, the loading screen takea all of ten seconds. Coming from a recent Sims-binge, thats seems fucking miraculous for how robust the game itself is. But then again, you have to add each individual path tile yourself... :/ Honestlt, I would suggest waiting for a steam sale (the holidays are coming up, after all), and getting it then. Even if it doesn't entertain you as much as it did me, at least you won't have spent full price!
Rose Cortes Thank you! Your response was perfect! I loved the Sim City games and this would be my first Tycoon-esque game. I think I'll definitely wait for the Steam sale. I'll save my $44 plus for Mass Effect Andromeda.
Just in case you were serious, don't do that. Steam checks your returns, and if you get too many "tried for a demo" returns they'll stop giving 'em to you.
I really appreciate you a lot by posting about your PC specs man, thanks I really needed someone to tell me what I need to build a great gaming computer. Thanks buddy keep up the good work. :)
This looks like the type of game I'd play for shits and giggles if I had a spare day and nothing to do. Nice video. Interesting and informative as always. I always enjoy your videos. They're informative without being too overwhelming.
Exactly. I thought it was stunning aswell. I want this game so badly but I just cannot see myself spending $45 on a Tycoon game. Oh well, back to RCT3 ;)
Hrm... a bit disappointed in how everyone else who plays the game seems to have no problem with pathing or laying coaster tracks, but you seem to be not even trying. Is there a bit of a learning curve? Yes. Will there be 5000 UA-cam video tutorials? Assuredly. But the fact remains, unlike a lot of games, the game does have the ability to pull off amazing things once you know how it works. Personally I bought a copy for my father's Christmas present... knowing full well I would need the month playing it behind his back just to learn how everything works. So don't let the few annoyances get you down, the game does reward those who take their time learning the nuances.
its still really annoying to build anything quickly. why is it not possible to draw for example a 5x4 rectangle with path tool to create small square for my food shops? why I need to click: select grid and then build that 1 by 1? Also why they didnt include more neutral themed prefab buildings and shops? I dont want to spend 10 minutes designing nearly every shop from scratch. There is steam workshop but downloaded blueprints are all in "my blueprints" not in regular building/shop/scenery menu. I always feel like I need to make too many clicks to do anything - like I am always fighting with the UI. Also when they said "steam workshop is integrated" I thought users will be able to upload their own 3D models, textures, rides etc.
Oh, I definitely agree that there's room for improvement. My point was mainly that the pathing and tracks weren't nearly as bad as LGR made it look in the review. As for the Steam Workshop stuff being in "my blueprints", that's actually a good thing. It's hard enough to keep track of the hundreds of included items with the UI... piling user content in there would be a disaster.
Thanks for the honest review, I was really glad you also pointed out everything you did not like / could be better, because that's what I really needed to know!
Is it as good as RT3? I have rt3 platinum edition But im just wondering how this stacks up in terms of gameplay (Obviously not graphics) So which do the people who have played both prefer? Rt3 or planet coaster?? (In gameplay and creation)
(Obviously, in terms of graphics, you know...) But in terms of gameplay, in terms of creativeness, it's absolutely wonderful as it's at least as good, if not much better, than RCT3 in terms of small details. You should watch OfficialNerdCubed's play through of Planet Coaster to see how much effort you can put into a small part of a park. In terms of management, I don't think Planet Coaster really is good in that regards. Just put a bunch of staff down and call it a day.
0:21 I always imagine the globe as RollerCoaster Tycoon World and the mascot for Planet Coaster is giving it a well deserved boot. This way I always start my game with a laugh.
At times I feel overwhelmed; seems like this game is less about building a theme park and more about building/designing. When I see what people create; I feel useless lol. I'm hoping for an improvement to the management side of this game as well.
For fans of the RCT series, it has now been ported to Android. Full game. Works incredibly well, all sounds and park's are there. The controls are so well done for a port of a PC game, and there are no micro transactions to unlock things! A review of this would be much appreciated :)
Planet Coaster as of right now is absolutely stunning. My daughter and I play it almost every day, so I happily bought all the DLC. The Adventure pack and Spooky pack are great additions.
I really dislike the management part in this game, it's basically non-existant and it's just too easy to make money. Less a game and more a sandbox rollercoaster creator. Also a lot is missing (flatrides, scenery) and right now it feels more like a beta version than a finished release. Had to refund it because of that but I hope they'll fix those issues in the future.
Whilst I agree, I'm also confident that it will get better, especially with modding and expansion packs. I'm just loving what there is so far and can't wait for more!
No weather, no events, no disasters, no deaths or injuries, every ride/coaster just safely "fails" - no different fail states like jammed restraints or brake failure. Crime and vandalism is not in game, no go carts, bumper cars, boats, mazes. Small amount of prefab coasters, shops and buildings. Annoying UI - worker wage/ training management is a chore because of bad UI. you need to adjust every worker separately. Research is linear, so every time you star a new park, its always the same and it gets boring quickly.
As of today, Frontier have patched Planet Coaster with performance optimizations, more prebuilt rides/buildings to use, and an optional harder difficulty mode for challenge maps. That's three of my main complaints about the game talked about in my review, and they're already starting to address them. A promising future indeed :)
so its the usual wait a couple months and buy in a sale kind of deal
Great you can pin this, they do seem to be working on everything you pointed out.
The whole simulation still lacks in depth, so I hope they will go deeper into fixing the whole management issue. I agree this was a first step but I doubt the December update is going to bring a big fix (YET).

in terms of creativity options definitely , in terms of the managment part it has still a long to go :-(
This is like a respond to the failure of Roller Coaster Tycoon like how Cities Skiline was a respond to the failure of Sim City.

@Robin Clarijs Don't know what you're on about, I'm running maxed out on a 980 TI + 4790K i7 and have experienced 0 issues or lag.
works on middle settings on a Nvidia 680GTX just fine
+Robin Clarijs wrong, a GTX 1070 which is better than the GTX 980ti is only 400
Ashley Johansson a 980ti was 650 USD at launch price if not more and a half year ago it would still retail for 600 USD. I'm disproportionately mad that they took away my ability to drown patrons.
They already took that ability away in RCT3. (All your guests in that game did when they made contact with water outside of a pool complex was endlessly swim around until they either reached a shoreline they could walk on or you manually picked them up and dropped them back on land.)

Teacup hell is one hell of a ride.
Wow! Those graphics!
Those guy should make a game like The Sims with that engine.
Imagining graphics like those in a Sims game made me very happy. They are quite beautiful! What a great idea.
I think that engine would have no problem with showing a whole open-world with lots of sims (or should we call them Planeteers?)! :-)

Awesome review, I played Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 a lot! Had to watch this review to see if it was worth it and it met my maker. I didn't even know of your channel until now. Happy to watch your newer reviews in my sub box.
Thrillville was the shit.
I want more. :c
(Yes I know there was another. We have it.)
omg yes!
xbox 360... remember the cringy arcade games.. I fave has the west shooter one lol nostalgia
I had no idea they worked on RCT2 and RCT3 and Thrillville, those games made my childhood! Awesome research and awesome video LGR.
I wish you’d come back to this for dlc and stuff like city skylines. I always love your dlc presentations
3:21 made me VERY LOL 😂
EDIT: And then again at 7:53 - dude, you're literally killing ... me ^^
Who do I have to kill to get a new Sim Golf style game with this level of detail?
Holammer
Nobody. Just ask somebody working for Frontier. :)
Might pick this up soon, seems like just the kind of theme park game I've been craving.

I was so excited and in utter awe when they released this game!! I bought the preorder immediately and have loved it ever since
Love the “taken” reference haha!
I really love that you're using fires on visitors, yeah!
A Moth Lol! That could be an option.
Just in case you were serious, don't do that. Steam checks your returns, and if you get too many "tried for a demo" returns they'll stop giving 'em to you.
FungusTrooper Thanks for the heads up. Most likely I wouldn't work the system like that. =) I'll just sit back and wait patiently for the Steam sale.
What's the song at 4:25? I feel like I've heard it before but just can't remember.
I would've preferred Slayer in the background as I broke the Roller-coasters and killed everyone at the park.
...I might be playing this wrong.
That is a legit playstyle in my experience.
I really appreciate you a lot by posting about your PC specs man, thanks I really needed someone to tell me what I need to build a great gaming computer. Thanks buddy keep up the good work. :)
IF they release it on GOG and doesn't require go online at all, then yes, I will probably get it.
Great review.
This is probably the newest game i've seen you review in your usual LGR style, keep up the great work!
"MANBUN doc/fest" made me laugh until I ached. :D
This looks like the type of game I'd play for shits and giggles if I had a spare day and nothing to do. Nice video. Interesting and informative as always. I always enjoy your videos. They're informative without being too overwhelming.
Can anyone tell me what song he uses at 5:07?
That's my LGR theme song, as remixed by Andrew Hulshult. Download it here:

As always, my go to review before purchase. You don't give fluff, you're honest in your opinions and back them up with examples. Thanks!
Can you do a Roller coaster tycoon world review and compare it to planet coaster? both games are sold for almost the same price..
Already in the works.

Salim El Yabouri consensus seems to be that there really is no comparison, planet coaster beats out RCTW
Lazy Game Reviews looking forward to see how you will mess with that broken game XD
Kyle Scheffler I know it's just for shits and giggles XD
Also a Simtheme Park review that would be great! :)
You might give the best game reviews on all of UA-cam.
Thank you for 'another one'! *DJ Khaled Voice*
"Does not require always-on internet connection"
Oi, EA! *clap*
Listen up, you shitheels.
my jaw dropped when I saw the landscapes. absolutely beautiful. stunning!
also the create an avatar thing at the beginning reminded me a bit of Sims 4, only nicer and more "original" lol
Exactly. I thought it was stunning aswell. I want this game so badly but I just cannot see myself spending $45 on a Tycoon game. Oh well, back to RCT3 ;)
Tanrus Me either. $45 for anything is a bit much. At least for me.
Hrm... a bit disappointed in how everyone else who plays the game seems to have no problem with pathing or laying coaster tracks, but you seem to be not even trying.
Well you can always download from the workshop or save your own blueprints which makes it much quicker. It does take a while to setup though.
Flabaliki also had issues, but that guy has crippling OCD and will literally spend 5 minutes picking a wallpaper for his kitchen in the sims.
Thanks for the honest review, I was really glad you also pointed out everything you did not like / could be better, because that's what I really needed to know!
they really need to make their own zootycoon on this engine. looks great.
Your wish is my command!
Oh my! This game is stunning! Another awesome review Clint!
Very objective, thanks for this video. it was great.
Been waiting for this review with passion!
The music at 4:12 sounds very like of those from The Sims series.
Fantastic review once again lgr!!
Is it as good as RT3?
I have rt3 platinum edition
But im just wondering how this stacks up in terms of gameplay
(Obviously not graphics)
So which do the people who have played both prefer?
Rt3 or planet coaster??
(In gameplay and creation)
An exceptional builder, nothing else really comes close. Management though is seriously lacking.
(Obviously, in terms of graphics, you know...)
But in terms of gameplay, in terms of creativeness, it's absolutely wonderful as it's at least as good, if not much better, than RCT3 in terms of small details. You should watch OfficialNerdCubed's play through of Planet Coaster to see how much effort you can put into a small part of a park.
In terms of management, I don't think Planet Coaster really is good in that regards. Just put a bunch of staff down and call it a day.
It's basically RT3 but better I think, except for the lack of balloon popping
I would love if PC has pool expansion pack too like RCT3 :D
Silvarret is your explanation. AeroHydra is a terrible person for not acknowledging the king of Coaster.
HOLY SHIT I LOVED THRILLVILLE! I had no idea they developed that.
Planet Coaster as of right now is absolutely stunning. My daughter and I play it almost every day, so I happily bought all the DLC. The Adventure pack and Spooky pack are great additions.
Did you name that ride 'Human Barbacue'?
LGR is a prolific gem. Thank you.
I really dislike the management part in this game, it's basically non-existant and it's just too easy to make money. Less a game and more a sandbox rollercoaster creator. Also a lot is missing (flatrides, scenery) and right now it feels more like a beta version than a finished release. Had to refund it because of that but I hope they'll fix those issues in the future.
havent played it myself but arent there things you need to unlock first?
Whilst I agree, I'm also confident that it will get better, especially with modding and expansion packs. I'm just loving what there is so far and can't wait for more!
Don't worry
DLC will fix that whole
Because who ships a game complete anymore?
Quite ... quite a few people.
