The Bad Monkey is the perfect example of how people listen with their eyes and opinions of others.
This is why I defend “affordable” guitars as not just for beginners. My Squier has become my own Custom Shop with the mods I’ve done. A truly signature instrument that inspires me to play more than anything I’ve ever played.
I've been hyping that pedal for years, but for SYNTHS, on Gearspace forum. But, TBH, I haven't used it much lately, because Moogerfooger overdrive sounds better, to me. TC MojoMojo is another good one with synths.
Part of why I hyped it was the value, as a $40 pedal all day... same category as the MojoMojo. The Moogerfoogers are on a different level. I prefer their overdrive (they all have a drive knob), but they cost a lot more both new and used. If a Bad Monkey cost what a MF-101 costs, then I'd get the Moog pedal. But for a $40 pedal, you can dial in more than $40 worth of sweet tones on the Bad Monkey. For hundreds, now there's more competition.
I feel the budget guitar argument, but it's a personal thing too. I've always wanted a 335, and I finally scooped one two years ago and no other guitar has felt like MINE like my 335 does. It's everything I've ever wanted, it reigns superior over my previous Dots and other guitars I tried to fill my 335 void with. Not saying everyone needs a 335 to feel complete...but man does it make me feel complete.
@@navedoesthingsEverything is feel. Our eyes lie to ears most of the time, but if you got a legit 335 you can’t beat the quality of craftsmanship. It feels and plays like luxury. I can only speak from guitar store experience unfortunately. I’d love to have my own one day.
Dude, just buy a fender…
The difference is like iPad and other tablets
Mike Cole more like Mike Cool.
more like mike turtles
Your stank face when you "got this thing goin" was great
pumped for the new "Chat-tar" a guitar designed fully by chatgpt!
Not sure if it’s as unique sounding as other pedals (that would probably be the Zoia), but it’s origin story is certainly one of the most unique. Great video.
The bigger question is, can Chat GPT create a pedal that doesn't already exist in some format. The Blues Breaker circuit has been done to death by everyone who makes pedals. Each one outside of the Marshall pedal has some change that is unique to that builder. So if Chat GPT just made its on modification, its still that same circuit at its core.
Kinda like saying "Chat GPT just wrote Stairway to Heaven, but called it "Elevator to Nirvana" with the same chords but changed a few words. Its still Stairway to Heaven.
Chat GPT can learn and it can extrapolate based off of known data....what it can not do, at least per my own understanding, is conceptualize. You cannot give it a blank slate and a say "Create something" Even if you say "Create a Guitar Pedal" it will still analyze data on guitar pedals and create one based on whatever it uses for its reference(Type(OD, Delay), Genre(Rock, Pop, Metal)) . You can say pedal builders are like this also, but at one point, they were not. The guy who invented the Maestro fuzz did not have other fuzzes to go off of.
When we get to the point where Chat GPT wakes up one day and just invents something nobody has ever seen...THEN its time to worry.
It’s really no different than how humans do things. We basically create variations on previous ideas. Rarely do we have a 100% original idea that’s not based, at least in some small way, on a previous idea.
@@James-eg3nf My take is that creating something that creates for us will eventually eliminate human creativity. Those rare creations that aren't based off of anything previous are the most impactful. I say this on my electrically charged smartphone whilst I bask in my ac.
My “secret” is pretty simple: Tele directly into a small tube amp, no pedals. That results in the most magical, warm, full, round, responsive, slightly compressed, dynamic tone that simply can’t be replicated by any pedal or amp sim, period. Some things come close, but nothing beats this combo in my opinion, and I own tons of guitars, amps, and arrays of amp sims and plugins.
Why no pedals? Pedals fun! You buy all the pedals, many colors, many effects, many prices, you buy pedals. The pedals support you. The pedals are the friend. The pedals become the life. You become the pedal. Buy the pedals
@@k0slizard389 Absolutely agree - and I have a box full of vintage and new pedals, but when it comes to recording, pure amp tone is my preference, plus you can always add effects in the mix.
Share one of your recordings that is just the guitar and amp. Let's hear it.
My favorite tip for guitarists when it comes to drive pedals, is to just pick one that you think looks and sounds cool. They're all so similar that it really doesn't matter if you get a behringer, bad monkey, walrus audio, or authentic 1998 gold Klon
Just sounds like gain 🤷♂️
Mike, those CuNiFe pickups sound fire! 🔥
I think you got lucky though… mine came with a dead pickup (bridge). Lots of people saying the same thing with theirs.
They might become the rarest Strat pickups ever made, due to supply issues, price, AND quality control problems.
Best kept secret is the double Tube Screamer technique from Trey Anastasio of Phish. First is a boost signal, second one adds bigger crunch.
Before hyping this up, I want to make sure folks are aware that a lot of "AI" is just mechanized, industrial scale intellectual property theft (with a lot of statistics to confuse humans and the engineers responsible for these learning models). How many circuits were used to create this pedal? Which ones did the sellers of this pedal get permission from? I love this channel but want to pump the brakes before we fall into praising products that were stolen from their original creators. (also Behringer exists so this might be moot 😅)
These are the real issues. I hope he addresses them.
Your getting up there in subscribers. Congrats man and keep up the content
the best kept secret in the world of guitars is that if a drummer learns guitar, buys 1 or 2 delays, maybe a slicer, and learned how to fingertap proficiently. Once youre able to get those frequencies outputting equally, a drummer can effectively use the fretboard like a melodic drum pad and create their own rythmic style
Secret sauce? Filtertrons through an early Distortion+(mine is 1983). I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Simply magic
That's a great sounding pedal. I used on a recording in the late 80's...love it!
Can you do a video of ALL your guitar gear? I'd love to see your stockpile of goodies! 😁
Imagine if there comes an amp simulator with an implemented AI that can replicate the tone settings from a song you play it
I really, really don't want to. That would be a tragedy and we should be doing our best to boycott AI use in creative industries.
hello mike, in the video about maroon 5 you said you would maybe release lessons on funk guitar, is it something you still think about?
lowkey ChatGPT probably could design a cool cabinet
Sounds like a bluesbreaker, but the AI angle is a pretty clever marketing move. Great playing, btw.
What speaker cab are you using?
It seems like in the analog guitar world, the amount of work AI can do is limited. Does it really mean anything if AI can slightly tweak designs we've been using for 50 years? Maybe there truly are some hidden sounds in these simple components (the Hephaestus fuzz comes to mind) that AI could predict before a human builder. But realistically, what is the use case for this?
In terms of mass production? Probably not a lot. It could see use in small batch production of circuits though. Like most of AI's applications and actual uses, it's just over hype and marketing propaganda. There's a reason why we still play 75 year old amp and guitar designs and I don't think that will ever change. The biggest guitar tech innovation of the last 50 years or so (outside of digital modeling, which really isn't guitar tech innovation, it's digital circuit/software innovation) is probably korg's nutube. And does anybody really care about it?
You need your own custom Chat Breaker with some mods. This pedal was made for you. Holy Krishna...
Might be because the pedal is sold out 😅 kinda hard to get your hands on. Unless second hand market.
Honestly, it does sound a lot like a blues breaker. And I do like it. But I can also get a similar sound from my Boss Wazacraft Blues Driver.
thats....thats the joke.....
Here is a secret you can clone a Klon and it sounds basically the same other than the tolerance differences. I have an original klon i bought for MSRP back in the day, won't sell it as i love it but i a/b it all the time.
i need a pedal to recreate your amazing guitar face . great video thank you very informative
It may have been designed by AI, but your PLAYING is what makes it sound so frickin’ sweet. Great vid.
May have to check 1 out.
6:27 it's the same with any of the "good" AI music... we're still at the point where Earthlings have to be involved. I just assumed that was the case with this pedal, too, so no worries.
AI originally 'made' a sort of Blues Breaker based circuit. But is wasn't by far good enough and Revv president and head designer Dan Trudeau refined it and added some stuff to it. So technically it is only AI inspired. But you already got that.
From another Cole, I think it sounds... Ok. For something different, try an Atreides from Way Huge. ✌️🙂
i can't tell you because it's a secret.
Great demo - Ai will be capable of great things, but it is a bit creepy 👻
AI is just a new word for something that existed for years.
Nice channel but you are more a vlogger than a musician..you are a great host or news anchor ❤
Sounds great Mike. But you know how to make it sound great.
Really throwing me off with the new font… but I guess some change is inevitable
I think you should have done more research here, the pedal was *not* designed by chat GPT.
Best kept secret? Price has very little to do with quality.
Anything DAN makes is gonna RULE!!!
🤘🏽REVV Rules 🤘🏽
….a moment of silence for all the human artisans.
what do you mean nobody is talking about it?
In other words, it's a recycled design, as AI can only use/apply information/designs that already exist.
0:18-0:21 wait… isn’t this guy… a CHRISTIAN?! 😂
I don’t get it: Is it design by AI or is it based on a Bluesbreaker?? Both seems impossible. …Is it only me??
Chat gpt isn’t AI. It’s more like a parrot on steroids. Pattern matching & generation.
sounds no better than a $50 dollar boss blues driver...
So let me get this straight, we should be impressed that ChatGPT "designed" a copy of one of the most copied pedals in recent history?
Rainger fx..... encourage creativity.
That’s not a korg miku tho…
If it beats the Klon Centaur, I’m interested. Otherwise, couldn’t be less. It seems just ok. You’re making yourself crazy about AI. It’s just a tool which currently needs a lot of I-dotting and T-crossing to not lie and make up nonsense. You should see some of AI’s slap-dash legal work. The robots are not coming for yer jerbs any more than drum machines replaced drummers in the early 80s.
Lol people think chatgpt invents guitar pedals.
The circuit it came up with didn't work. They had to make the circuit work. Half A.I. I'd say.
Kept fast forward hoping he would get to the point.
Is it AI?
Made in China is great
Most unique pedal? Sorry noob that title belongs to the fart pedal.
Pedal sounds boring
Over acting for an over driven tone hahaha
blah blah blah blah blah
