I'm a Bengali Londoner and I will never forget how my Somali mate's cousins in Gothenburg fed us like we were at a wedding. much love and respect for Somalis.
The chef was so welcoming and Polite, love how is English became very limited when asking about the spice mix he uses haha
You know that bro there is no secrets, it's just that he didn't know how to say the Ingredients in English
@@LatifsInspired HAHAHA We are safe guarding the tasty ancient Somali food secrets ;)
Somali cuisine is an undiscovered secret, very hearty and delicious. Thanks for sharing.
They just prefer to keep a low profile usually. Focus on food more rather how the place looks . In Somalia it's combo of ambience and taste though
So why are Somalis skinny? I want to try the food but It looks not hearty only delicious
@@balochafghan4890 Its hearty and delicious, try their pulao and samosas. Very tasty and they know how to use spices sparingly to bring out the taste in foods.
@@balochafghan4890
Our gentics we are lean in stature as our forefathers were camel herding pastorolists who lived off a diet which was based on camel milk and camel meat.
I have never tried Somali food but I will definitely try it now!
If you love meat specially lamb, and taste flavoursome food, then InshAllaah you will be in for a treat.
Maashallah Latif. Great to see you visit my local Somali place 😀. I come here after Friday prayer in East London Mosque. I watch your videos to cook Asian food but nice to see you explore other cultures. Soo dhawoow walaal!
Masha’Allah! Somalia 🇸🇴 food is absolutely one of the best kept secret food in the cuisine world. Great video brother.
@Hafijur Rahman Thank you brother. We Somalis love our Bengali brothers and sisters.
One of the secrets has to be soy sauce! Lol...When i ate at Brothers (i’m sure you know this place) the beef steak had this distinct flavour profile but i’m assuming now after the chef mentioned he uses soy sauce that they (brothers) also must have used it on the beef to give it that deep rich flavour, of course there’s more to it but I suspect that’s one of the keys lol
@@tshelby9808 Hahaha That’s not true actually. The secret to Somali food flavor has to do with the exact herbs and spices we use which doesn’t contain soy sauce at all. I think you’re trying to get it out of us by using a clever tactic or outlandish statement in order to make us reveal it. Well done @ T Shelby. Nicely played ;)
So, I watched your video on Sunday and decided to visit Al Kahf today.
Everything was just as you said, "cooked to perfection". Great portion sizes and reasonably priced too!
This looks so delectable that I want to book a plane ticket and leave Miami, Florida in the USA right away to this restaurant. Looks phenomenal!!!
@@nej9015 That's phenomenal to know. Are you aware of any restaurants in Miami? I would love to try it.
@@sunflowerbaby1853 usa food the meat isnt the same . I tried both uk and usa.. yall have fake meat when u eat in uk and dubai you will realize the food in usa isnt real .. is hard to explain .. new orleans and washington and ohio probably the best bet for food in usa
You won't be disappointed, east london has every cuisine you can wish for and more
Are you muslim? Maybe try to find a somali at a local masjid. Then ask them about somali food. You might even get a home cooked meal.
Somali food is amazing and tasty as a Bengali I love Somali food specially the lamb roast and shanks respect to all halal food from all cultures Mashallah
It's not that great. However I do love them as a people. U have a somali on your side, I any situation youre safe.
This was my first place I experienced Somali food. At first I was a bit unsure of what to expect, but the flavours are really nice. The three Somali soup is definitely underrated
Yummm. I’m a Somali living in Qatar and I really miss Somali restaurants in the West, especially Toronto where I’m from. The spices we use are similar to Indian spices - cumin, coriander seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric, red chili powder, garlic and lots of fresh coriander. That’s pretty much the base of our spices. And this chef is using soy souce to top it up a notch. In my family, we add a bit of brown sugar and lemon juice to the lamb.
There is other spices that are missing and we use them so let’s make it secret for the restaurant 😜🤐
I lived in Doha and used to go to souq waqif Yemeni restaurant to get my Somali food fix. The host there was a Yemeni Somali who always made us feel so welcome.
I've tried Brothers cafe in Tottenham, Savannahs in Shepherds Bush, Hooya's kitchen in ilford... all had fantastic 👌 food. Next on the list is Al Kahf inshaAllah
Next brothers in Tottenham is another restaurant that I think serves better food
@@aja2168 nothing yet has matched the taste of brothers cafe. Savannah is more modern decor and food is great too.
@@aja2168 for me I loved brothers but if ur female u will feel awkward a lot of male go there however they have side for females. Savanna is not very very authentic they have authentic mixed with Morden western food and very fantasy still great but u will not feel like Somali authentic food however I didn’t try the other two and will go there soon inshallah (god’s willingness)❤ I tried Duniya in Harlesden authentic food as well👌🏽
As a lifelong Londoner and fan of the restaurants in Whitechapel never heard of this place, will be planning to head here soon
Somali food is so good and the fact people don’t know Somali food is crazy to me 🤍🇸🇴
Well, they need to be more open minded and mix with other people. If they keep speaking their language around non Somalis and staring too much of course they would people people off and nobody would go to their restaurants
This is my local somali joint. The meats are to die for. The decor is horrendous lol. You don't go there for the aesthetics of the restaurant, you go there for the food only! The rice alone is amazing.
I tried Yemeni food in Qatar with our Yemen friend. It was an incredible experience with insanely diverse but delicious food. People who explore are often rewarded.
Ur making my mouth water! As south Asians are very difficult to satisfy when it comes to food!
No one does it like muslims. Alhamdulillah. ❤
Well done to our Somali brothers. May Allah give this restaurant baraka and make them expand.
I went there with two of my brothers and I LOVED it. It’s so good I recommend.
Worked in Whitechapel but never knew of this restaurant until I saw this vlog. I’m going there tomorrow to eat.
Am really enjoying these trips to other chefs.
That food looked banging and so like a family in there.
Food is love and you could see that
Blessings and thanks you brother💫
Amazing.. its a secret jam. I pass this wy olmost everyday but never reslised such a nice restaurent be there.

@@ashahaji1565 they didn’t let me pay for this meal however I paid £23-25 the first time for the lamb and chicken with the rice including the drink.

Wow, Somali food looks amazing! I will have to visit when I’m in London. This is great.
Thank you for this video Chef. A good reminiscence for me of when I was in the UK for studies, having many friends like family including Somalis and eating their cuisine 🤩
One on the bucket list. Will be going there very soon...

Ma Sha Allah that looks delicious. Insha Allah next time I visit to London I will check this place out
MashAllah the food looks so delicious, I ate Somali food in AlAin UAE somewhere in the 90s
In the 70s 80s and 90s there used to be more Somalis in the UAE ! Many left but some are left in Dubai
I'm glad you've finally found Al Khaf, it's been a lowkey hot spot for years that has now begun to surface. 👌
Brother's in the endz 💪🏽 Allaahumma Baarik Somali food is banging 💯
❤😎 That’s how to do lamb! If it’s red inside, a good vet could save it. That looked awesome😋. A genuine ‘hidden gem’. Thanks for showcasing other peoples food too 😎👍
My god I'm hungry food looks great!! Need some of that now!! Masha Allah
Excellent review bruv, Food looked Wonderful
Just been to a somali wedding 💒 the food was just amazing. I would love to learn how to cook this lamb & rice . Just fab 👏 👏 👏

Never had Somali food, but a lot of my Bangali friends have recommended it. Will try soon ان شاء الله
Salaam everyone I'm visiting London soon to meet some family I'll definitely be visiting these places insha'Allah
I like the way the chef thoughtfully muted, stammered and then lost his vocabulary when asked about his "secret spices". I was like, brother Latif! hold your questioning for a second, the chef hasn't yet named his recipe price. Lol.
What a feast indeed!😍
Great video bro! Now I'm hungry for some 😋
Looks delicious bro, that lamb shank looks mouthwatering! Thanks for showing me a new place to go!
These restaurants need to promote and collaborate with deliveroo or just eat to do delivery for people because food is soo good and we need to sure with the rest of the people that don’t know our food yet😢😮 thanks for trying Somali food brother manshallah and our chef forget our signature 🍌 😂 I cnt believe u ate without that😢 that’s if u want🤪
