- Because 60 damage Amazy Dayzees are fun! And 448 health Bonetail. It’s not a full-on Paper Mario Master Quest mod for TTYD, but it is challenging! Modding The Thousand-Year Door is currently limited to text hacks, codes, and texture replacements. Thankfully, we can use codes to make things more difficult. There isn’t really a defined “Hard Mode” as far as I’m aware, but I wanted to livestream this game with a twist, using a couple Gecko Codes to keep things interesting.
Only enemy health and enemy attack power are changed from the base game. But you’d be surprised how much this can affect the way you approach certain fights, especially because the enemy HP code (by Zephiles) can apply a random multiplier to their base health. I went with 1.5x to 3x health for all enemies. Goombas have 2 base health, so with this specific range, every individual Goomba we encounter varies between 3 to 6 health. That multiplier also applies to bosses, making some of those fights a lot more tense… higher base health leads to ridiculously increased health due to the multiplier.
The other code is an attack modifier (by Jdaster64), which I set to add a 1.5x multiplier to all enemy attacks. Unlike the Double Pain badge already found in-game, this affects Mario AND his partners, but only applies to enemies, not items or stage props. Speaking of Double Pain, it stacks with the enemy attack multiplier on Mario. And since I was streaming this, there were times where I equipped Double Pain if Twitch chat suggested it. I hope you guys enjoy some of the most fun and most intense moments.
For a bit more context, there were a few things Twitch viewers had control over. Chat got to collectively choose each level up through a poll, which is why we ended up with an overwhelming amount of Badge Points compared to Heart Points and Flower Points. Viewers could also choose Mario’s clothes, specifically between the traditional red, and a Luigi outfit, Wario outfit, or Waluigi outfit.
We also had a major "bitwar" throughout this playthrough - do we fight the Shadow Queen and save the world? Or become her servant, so we could have a Goth GF? Any paid subscriptions or bits cheered during this series could be added as points towards one of these endings. The “Goth GF Evil Ending” won, which is why I didn’t fight the Shadow Queen in this playthrough. I look forward to taking her down in the next challenge run. But hey, the Pit of 100 Trials was very difficult here, and served as a formidable “final boss” of its own... shoutouts to Kappy for helping with strats on the last 20 floors!

I know there is a good possibility of this comment being buried, but I finally decided to do this challenge, but I amped it up. All Enemies have 2xAtk and 2-5xHP, and it has been difficult but a lot of fun! So many strats I am having to do that I wouldn't do in Vanilla due to Enemies not being steamrolled.
I am currently on Chapter 5, Level 12, and have 15 deaths. I made it a self-rule where if I fail a challenge in Chapter 3, it's 1/3 of a death. I spent 12 hours to beat Chapter 2&3.
Edit: I beat it, even Bonetail. Man it was difficult
I’m getting my yearly urge to play TTYD again as well lol. I used the codes in this video last time but for some reason stopped around Chapter 3 and just didn’t end up going back to it. I’m thinking of using a very familiar multiplier to yours though. I watched someone else stream a challenge of it and Macho Grubba was insane lol.

Finally there’s been so many “pro” modes for Paper Mario 64 but so few for TTYD
Yeah unfortunately the tools to alter TTYD in that manner just don't exist. Messing with memory values to change enemy health or randomise item drops is fairly easy. But stuff like pro mode/Master Quest is for now completely out of the question.

@@Seltaeb_ Most of what I know is from the Masterquest discord but they've said that even if the tools existed it'd be too big of a project for them to want to take on after they already put so much effort into Masterquest. Still they'd be better able to explain why TTYD is so much harder to mod.
I think there's also a discord for the Starrod Patcher, which is the tool that allows Paper Mario 64 to be modded. Probably a good place to ask.
