Love it or hate it, The Blair Witch Project is memorable. Be it because it's one of the first found footage movies, because it never shows the witch, or because of Heather's snot, everyone can recognize and/or mimic it immediately. Unfortunately the same can't be said for its follow-ups, but for some reason all three are worth watching if for nothing else than to see a series of films with wildly different styles and qualities set in the same universe. For this "trilogy" of sorts, I am joined by Mike & J of We Watched A Movie! If you don't know em already, prepare to have some new favorite UA-camrs to add to your sub box.
This is an audio commentary ONLY. It is meant to be watched along with the movie so you can raise or lower the volume on the commentary or the movie itself as you wish.

My favorite part is when you said "stan" 🤣
I think I remember reading somewhere that the actors in the first Blair Witch Project were like said to be missing and presumed dead for the first year after the film was released or something too. On top of a mockumentary played on the scifi channel about the supposed 'curse of the blair witch.' Movie did a lot of cool shit at the time and it's wild how much of it was just by accident during the actual filming like the zoom on her face when she turned it to film herself. I really like the first Blair Witch but the rest of them fell short by quite a bit. Sad cause I think the second really had promise with that first scene. Then The Blair Witch 2016 movie was kinda. just there. It had a few good ideas but it really dropped the ball on a lot of them in my opinion.
It did.
The characters in 2016 were also very one note and dull. Plot was nonsense as well, like Heather would really still be alive in the woods after 20 years?
I knew I was in trouble, when at the beginning, they rewrote the ending of the original, and added a loud monster growl, which was clearly not in the ending.
@@RYMAN1321 I never saw the 2016 movie but part of the original was a lot of time fuckery. I think it only explains this in the book though.
I had this convo with a guy I dated (he was from Texas I'm from North Carolina) and i said that we always called vienna sausages "viennie wennies" and he deadass had to ask a stranger in a public place if that was a real thing. 🙌 thank God my locals had my back.
My fan theory for Blair Witch 2016. The monster at the end of the movie was Heather, morphed into something unrecognizable.

Yall have to watch the scooby doo remake of the original blair witch, if you haven't seen it you will love it.
Fuuuck hasn’t heard anyone mention that in forever
Or The Blair Thumb. Cartoon Network used to play it & Bat thumb all the time in the early 2000s.
the time travel thing they mentioned is the exact premise of the stephen king movie in the tall grass
Lmao “how do you work this thing” in witch voice
The first one was the scariest. Especially if you pair it with his theory about the with mimicking Josh's voice, in the beginning with the baby crying...
I live in Maryland so I've actually visited the location of the non existent Burkittsville. haha the building was still there but idk if it is now its been at least 10 years since then.
I can already tell this one’s gonna be good
It would have been so cool if your idea was right, that they were stuck in time there
17:49 Eric does his best Godzilla impression
I know it was partly a joke but it would have been fucking AMAZING if they used the time thing in the third to blend the movies. The payoff of seeing the witch is one thing but just IMAGINE the payoff of seeing the movie from the “witch’s” perspective. Like they try to recreate the scenes as fans of the movie, so they lay out the rocks or whatever for a photo. The sun didn’t rise, so it’d have to have happened at night. The existential horror of that, AAAAAHH!! The fact that we didn’t get that movie is proof we live in the darkest timeline.
(Also if Eric sees this please watch The Lighthouse. The commentary would be great.)
My thoughts on them are the first one is the best, second one is the worst (though it still has some interesting ideas and concepts, the reason why the movie sucked was because of studio handling, not the actual people who made it), and I personally really like the third one, it’s flawed yeah but I really liked it, it’s ideas and concepts were really interesting, the time travel bits and the guy saying “we haven’t seen you in 5 days!” honestly is really scary when you think about it, and I just really enjoy it. Also, 17:38 hardcore agree with the guy in the middle, I can’t for the life of me understand how the other two got scared of that girl from the second one (she looked hilarious lol) and there like “eh” when the Witch makes a creepy millisecond appearance.
The owl is the real hero of this story

Dude, that idea of the characters in the first film running from the drone in the third is legitimate fire. You guys shoulda directed this, then my dreams would have been made.
It is actually killing me thinking of when Heather screamed “WHAT THE FUCK IS THATTTT” while that $80 drone is just buzzing above her while flashing green and red lights
@@LindsayLohanHuh Right?! It works so well!
Ikr? That's such a cool concept
The concept of time travel/pocket dimension makes so much sense in this series. Especially in the first film where it gets darker and darker in brightness.
that whole idea sounded so cool oh my god
The hypothetical scenes that eric came up with were scarier than the movies
Think that’s how the Blair witch should be watched- the discussion you have with friends makes the movie scary
Though I guess the same could be said for most horror movies
When things are left to the imagination and aren’t explained clearly, that’s when it’s scary. I’m not a fan of horror but I think it goes without saying that the more the viewer is left in the dark about certain things, the better. If you show the monster that’s cheap. The unknown can be bone chilling
@@magicalgirl4 Agreed
Exactly! That’s what makes it such an effective horror movie. It leaves everything to the imagination so you’re left to come up with the most terrifying thing you can think of.

@@melwasnevergivenaname ewww WHAT
I haven't watched the whole thing so I don't know if they've mentioned it in the video yet, but in the original movie, the actress that played Heather brought a knife with her while filming because she was worried that it was actually a snuff film that she had been baited into.

I’m sitting here like “there was 3 of them?” I’ve only seen the original
right??? hahaha
Yeah the 2nd one was supposed to be more of a commentary on the popularity of the first movie. But the studio didn't like that so they made then do reshoots and basically made an unwatchable movie. 3rd one came out pretty recent.its basically the movie grave encounters but way worse and in the woods
Loll. When he said 3 I was shook. I thought there was only 2. I've only seen the original.
OG Blair Witch and Grave Encounters were fricking classic
now that i think about it. if you include the fake documentary they made as promotion for the first movie there's 4 blair witch movies
One of my favorite pieces of Blair Witch trivia is that the “WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?” scene was Heather’s actress’ genuine reaction to crew in a werewolf costume stalking them.
Jesus this movie CANNOT have been worth it to make. I feel bad for the actors
@@DeathnoteBB I believe alot of this imbaguity to the wotch being real on the first one is that the actress/person holding the camera was meant to film like a whole bunch of stuff that they were doing but they didn't they only got their reactions
Man the original Blair Witch is a perfect example of how to use the found footage style to great effect without even needing to show the monster. Some call it lazy, I call it brilliant.
Now its lazy but for them they made the best with what they had
@@GrayWoIf apparently in the making of the film they would just have like a general script to go off which was just go to this location etc. And all the reactions are genuine to some things and that the director and crew would have stuff set up to scare them that they were meant to film and react to, two instances I can think of that were reacted to but not recorded were in the woods when Heather screams what the fuck is that, and in the house when they are upstairs they are meant to see the witch at the stairs briefly or something but the actors got scared or something and didn't actually record it because of their reaction
@@GrayWoIf true but even still you could cut the atmosphere in that movie with a knife it was that tense. I personally never liked when they actually showed the witch in the newer movie cause I think nothing they could outright show me could do justice to how terrifying the witch could look like in my imagination. And honestly the atmosphere and the amazing acting/non acting really pull it through for me which makes the original film my favorite in the series.
REC is the only other good movie I can think of with this style.
@@jtehmain8261
I’ve seen people argue that it wasn’t the witch but a monster/victim of them to some degree
Fun (kinda) fact: the main actress thought this might be a snuff film, and brought a knife with her while filming
Poor heather
Holy shit
I just looked up what a snuff film is there's another CIA FBI list I'm on but yeah I cant get that still interesting to know have a good day
pretty smart of her tbh
Note for those who don’t know: A snuff film is basically a murder caught on camera
I was always convinced that Mike and Josh killed Heather because of the way he moves her around in the house before they go to the basement
And also the way he yelled out where he was going almost like he wanted to let someone know where he would be going
Wow that does make sense also because that scream she gave at the end was like… pure shock, not just fear but I feel like something must have shocked her to her core so perhaps the boys turned on her

Fun fact: The talk they have about the rocks being scary is the definition of the "eerie," in folklore. The uneasiness brought on by presence of something that shouldn't be there or the lack of something that should.
The first Blair witch movie I think they overreacted it could’ve been a witch but the more plausible option (I think) is that it was a Boy Scout troop doing arts and crafts
