@@DG8RS well they are trying to make a come back after being sued/facing a class action suit and having to disappear for several years because of the bad press that was in the limelight with their shady practices
The fact that the ABV barrel shop offers you the ability to try their barrels before you shell out $100 a bottle is the most approachable doorway into upper class bourbon drinking . As a newbie this is so inviting I’ll be on my way here soon !
Great place to go when you're a newb (like me).... 1st time in the ABV shop was when my kids(all21+) took me there for my Bday. Just so happened that the shop had a sale going to help make room for new picks, walked out with 8 bottles for $300!
Idk why this was recommended to me on the top of my UA-cam page but as a STL native not 20 minutes from ABV Barrel shop, I’m very glad to have watched the whole video and am excited to go visit these shops!
Because of his relationships in the industry, the owner of the ABV Shop gets access to many barrels others will never see. Example: When they picked the barrel of James E. Pepper Rye they are currently selling, the owner of the distillery himself was rolling out his own hand picked barrels for possible selection!! They also hold the world record for the different barrel picks (not bottles!!) sold in 60 minutes at 47. Great whiskey shop where you can always try before you buy.

Brewzle and Steve Ackley.... 2 of my favorites in a single video. That Dark Arts Maple is incredible. If you don't like it, I'll drive to Opelika to relieve you of it.
This is one of the best videos ever. Can’t believe you were in Steve Ackley’s store I’m St. Louis. He is a certified bourbon legend!! Love the Bourbon Daily podcast. He is amazing and so is this channel.
Loved seeing Nobleton’s mentioned right away. Demetrius has some amazing stuff!! The Theodore Rex he sold me recently is excellent!! Got at least five different bottles of his on my shelf currently. Also just had some Stowloch the other day out at Circle 6 in Defiance, single barrel pour was quality. Nobletons and ABV are two of my favorites and that was cool to see them at least mentioned both in one video.
My daughter lives in Arnold and I just learned about ABV. A place to visit while visiting her. I usually go to A1 Wine & Spirits which is pretty darn good as well. In St. Louis, I've been to that Friar Tucks. I'm surprised no one mention Dogwood Wine and Spirits - formerly Lukas - in Ellisville.
I drink bourbon like once a month and I like the idea of whiskey way more than I actually like the taste of whiskey lol. But I just can’t get enough of this channel. Such good content. Keep it up brewzle!
The Found North stuff is exceptional man, its blended with the bourbon fan in mind and it really shows. $185 is high, think I paid a touch over $100 for that same bottle.
Really love your bourbon hunting videos TJ. Especially loving the conversations with industry whales! I know it makes the videos a bit longer but I learn so much about local brands. As a life long Saint Louis resident I wanted to thank you for painting the city in a positive light. I hope you and your family enjoyed your time here. If you ever come back with the family try to check out The City Museum downtown. It is unlike any other place I have ever seen.
Grapevine seemed like a cool small shop. I don't mind bundles like that when it is a good pair but I hate when stores just try to move an unsellable bottle by pairing it with a highly desired bottle. I also really like the tasting idea since they often only get a single bottle of the more highly allocated bottles. ABV Bottle Shop is definitely a place I need to put on the list of places to stop by. The idea of a store selling almost entirely barrel picks is great and something that interests me a lot. Seems like a good guy as well.
I’ve been waiting for when you check out St. Louis. Partially since there’s been a whiskey scene in or around St. Louis for the longest time but has started taking off in the last 7-10+ years. There were a few other local distilleries within 2 hours of St. Louis with real potential. I always try to check out what’s new whiskey wise when going back to visit. That’s how I got a 10 year hazmat from a craft distillery a little outside of St. Louis
Have you actually sampled all these Found North bottles? I've had several now, and IMO, they're amazing. My initial reaction when I saw them on the shelf was "Canadian whiskey? For these prices? Hell no!" But man... they are delish!
Was so cool to see you visit abv barrel shop in arnold! My uncle who recently passed built that entire bar from scratch with Steve from the video. His name was Jim Fasnacht. He would have loved to be there
I'm surprised you've never stopped in or possibly heard of Bourbon's Bistro in Louisville. It's on Frankfort Avenue by the way just a tad northwest of the NuLu district, and just a mile or two past Silver Dollar whiskey bar if you've seen or heard of that. Also, I saw ABV had a Gnaw Bone single barrel select bourbon and that was surprising to me as it is made by a very small distillery called Bear Wallow out of Gnaw Bone Indiana which is in between Bloomington IN and Nashville IN, which is where Hard Truth is from.
He had a fair amount of Bear Wallow in his store, pretty cool little distillery doing there own stuff in the tiny town of Nashville, Indiana. Gnaw Bone Single Barrel is what he had, IMO very good stuff if you see it again I would love to hear your opinion. They sell almost all of their stuff at their distillery because they can't keep up with the distribution in Indiana so it was cool seeing it in a store.
That Penelope 15 yr Light American Whiskey is a great bottle. I got mine for $100. This store had it for $160. Id buy it at that price having already tried it and liking it.

Awesome that you stopped through St. Louis! I used to work at that exact Friar Tucks… Fun but sad fact, the owner keeps a collection of rare, hard to find, allocated whiskeys in the back office. He refuses to sell them because he doesn’t want people to resell them at ridiculous prices on the secondary market. So they sadly collect dust on the shelf.
If you make it back through STL, some recommendations. Hit the Randall's wine and spirits off of Jefferson. It's not bourbon fixated, but it starts with everclear on the left side of the warehouse and works down to beer on the right side. Solid selection and some international variety. Also Square One Distillery has some good spirits. The JJ Neukkomm has a unique finish with the cherrywood smoked malt, and despite being a whiskey guy, the amber rum rocks.
