I disagree with your opinion on the sidequests. To me, they added to the lore, loved the exploring, and the additional characters they added and were fantastic additions and hit me in the feels in so many ways. But I respect your opinion it's to each their own
Funny enough, if I had played the demo, I never would have got the game. I didn't like the first three hours of the game. Thankfully the story got way better after that. I didn't mind the side quest, but the side quest rewards sucked. I * totally agree* about the boss fights. The last two felt like a massive downgrade compared to the previous boss fights

The demo did the opposite for me and sucked me in, but I feel that was partly hype for final fantasy in general!
