Excellent!! Followed step by step and was successful! Thanks these ds’s are expensive and no one wants to fix them. Saved me a lot of money and gave my son is game back. Smiles all around.
Wow, I searched and saw a lot of videos about new 2DS XL top screen replacement but yours is definitly the best so far. You are doing with such care and patience that's amazing. Takes are so neat, we perfectly see what to do and how things are connected. Thabk you so much for the videos and all your tips!
Your video is a live saver man. I was laying down one day and sat up to see i was laying on my 2ds xl. Sadly, the screen broke, but your video helped my resurrect this thing from the dead.
I've notice the R button inside the unit got almost remove while removing the housing how did you return it back? It also happened to me but mine was accidentally entirely removed.
It’s always pretty great when restorations are done with asmr, I am a owner of a 2ds xl console and I play Nintendogs in it. it works pretty great on a newer Nintendo console versus an old Nintendo game. I used to have a Nintendo DS lite that broke when I dropped it, it wasn’t even that far.
Omg thank you so much for the idea. I was trying to get this damn hing for half an hour now, and i saw this comment. As i was reading the comment and trying, it worked first try. Again, thank you so much. You're a saint.
bro! I will name my first child after you lol I've been trying for like 30 minutes and it wouldn't budge, then i read this comment and got it out first try
I just finished the repair by watching this tutorial, and I had a few problems, so for anyone that is going to try this, keep in mind that this is never going to take 12 minutes. For me, it took me 4 hours, but I spent 1 dealing with a stripped screw. I would have preferred if you didn't put cuts on the more difficult part, like at 2:56 and at 9:24 when I got stuck because I didn't see what you did. Also, I don't know what the hell you did during the cut at 1:45 but you broke the R button and never mentioned it during the video 0.o
Thankfully this is by far the easiest folding 3ds family model to do a top screen on. The new 3ds xl has 3 ribbon cables running through that metal cylinder, where as this has one ribbon and the antenna wire.
Typical screw-driver kits usually don’t come with a Tri-Wing screwdriver, as a Twi-wing or “Y” screw isn’t very common, and is really only used by Nintendo themselves since they know most hardware stores wouldn’t carry it in bulk. You can by them on Amazon or your local hardware store, they just won’t be found int repair kits.
Without this vid I wouldnt have tried this xD ok I have some small things that I found out while doing this: -on aligning the new screen on the glass and the shell, put the glass into the shell first and then put the lcd on it (its easier and you dont have to worry aligning the lcd wrong) -on the hinge beware, that you need to open the ds a bit more if it doesnt fit
I probably killed the ribbon cable of the lcd because I aligned it half a millimeter off and the cable got stuck on the glue. If I put the screen into the shell first and then put the lcd on it I wouldnt have to look out for the ribbon cable at all
Daaamn that's crazy Found a broken top screen 2DS XL for 40$ But the repair is crazy, i can probably do it with hair dryer but i don't think it's worth the time effort and stress tho 🤔
Great video. I have a question, i noticed at the end when you started to the device we can see on the left side of the replaced screen a light bleeding. A kind of inconsistant light level at the edge of the screen. I am asking because I just bough a 2DS and it has exactly the same and on the same screen and side. Any idea why and anyone else has the same issue? Thanks
im gonna be using this tutorial in the future because my screens got the same issue, my question is how did yours get that bad? or are you repairing a freinds
Hi. So I'm replacing the screen. And have it almost together. Where I'm stuck is the little peg that mounts the top screen to bottom. It is not lining up. I can't get the peg in.
Are you talking about the barrel hinge that connects upper and lower housing? It is a press fit and takes a little force to snap in. Make sure when attempting to insert the hinges that the housing is in the closed position.
@@TheFixTech thank you. Yes that was it. I had to take some pliers and twist it the right way. Got the whole think put back together and the screen isn't coming on with a pop now. Lol. I think I may have damaged the ribbon again messing with that hinge 😅. Oh well. Gonna buy another screen on Amazon and try again. The screen I have currently worked fine before I assembled it. I plugged it in before just to make sure. Powered on. Screen worked and everything. Now it's not 😅
If you somehow see this, do you know if I’m able to remove the lens without removing the screen? Like the blow dry method for the other models and then the lens pops out. My only issue is a scratched screen
Thanks for the video! Is it possible to replace a scratched screen lens without opening everything up? I saw that be done for the 3DS, 3DS xl and 2DS, but not for the 2DS xl.
Hey i recently picked up a new 2ds xl in black and blue and the top plastic cover u remove on mine is majorly fucked up and i found a seller with new replacements and just wanted to find out if i was to use a heat gun there when my screen is not broken, is there any chance the heat could break the screen when i try to remove the ruined plastic cover? cheers
Wait did he just broke the ribbon cable I think it separated 3:54, 6:48 yup it got broke its missing the connector I mean the screen is broken but be careful guys the ribbon cable is so fragile.
If anyone is watching this and is having trouble removing the hinge, Put the 2DS top and bottom in the open position then pry the hinge out. It should come out effortlessly.
Be careful, if you noticed he broke off one of the trigger buttons off the motherboard. It’s a very difficult fix, my advice is to use a plastic wedge tool and to avoid prying where the triggers are
My 2ds xl fell out of my pocket the other day and broke off a piece of the hinge witch ripped the top screen ribbon cable. Rather stressed at the thought of trying to fix it as I've tried fixing 3ds's before but only managed to brake them further.
I have a 2dsxl with a good top screen. And I want to swap it with a 2dsxl with a bad screen. Do you think that one of these can be taken apart without damaging the good screen? It seems like most people go into this not worrying about damaging the screen because its already broke. But Im thinking of taking mine apart to harvest the screen for another system.
Its really annoying how difficult the 2ds is to take apart, but i couldnt afford a new 3ds xl and a lot of this was done to save money. Even changing the battery is quite annoying compared to before
Hi I recently broke my 2ds XL, I broke the screen part of it and now the screen is messed up, are you accepting request ? If not than can you tell me where to go to fix my 2ds broken screen?
I hope someone can answer me but is this the same universally with then because i have the hylian sheild one and i really wanna fix the top screen if its the same ill just order the parts lol
The problem I have which I don’t see it anywhere online about it. There this an orange light that comes on when turning on the system. It’s on the top left corner. You can only see it when playing the system in the dark. When it’s bright out you can’t see it. Would anyone know how to fix it?
I must be the only one struggling with this! Audio jack port snapped off, I couldn’t get the bolt holding the two panels together out and Just messed the plastic up from trying to pry it out !! So annoying 😢
Yes it is possible but harder than the 3ds as the whole screen assembly has to come out and there’s a strong chance the lcd will crack upon lens removal.
@@TheFixTech Got my hands on a 2ds xl with some nasty gashes on the top screen lens, Can I even pop the lens out of the case without taking it apart or is it a lost cause?

you make it look easy! Going to try this soon with your excellent tutorial
This was a great video, and your technique for rolling the top screens ribbon cables are very good
Ordered everything you linked for it, looks like the videos pretty easy to follow👍
Thanks, let me know how it goes.
Bought one on Facebook market place with a dead top screen for 20$. Easy fix and an easy flip.
dang what a deal man
The hinge pin pulls out way easier if you have the lid opened in normal position

Got the same model and yeah this video makes me want to play it.
It’s crazy how people manage to handle technology like the 3DS!

It's actually less terrifying than the actual 3DS

Hair dryer will work
Saving it for later when I get a replacement screen as the one I got was damaged.
What type of screwdrivers did you use? I know there's a toolkit in the description but I want to look for something in my country.
Any small precision toot set will work, size 00 Phillips

It’s 50/50, I’ve gotten some really nice replacement screens. Every supplier is a mixed bag though.
can you use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun??
I am pretty late but do you have a bottom screen replacement video? This video is helpful but my bottom screen and top screen are both damaged.
is it possible to use a hair dryer instead of a heatgun?
Yes, hair dryer can still get hot so be sure to keep the heat moving.
4 of the buttons have come off. Do i solder them back? Or are they supposed to be lose?
how do you get the screws to come out every single time perfectly? ive stripped screws on 3 different 3ds even while using the right screws
