      Also - @13:30 is way more important than you think it is for getting the hinge to close properly.

  • @brendanm3779
    @brendanm3779 2 роки тому +88

    At 11:07 there's a bit skipped that's pretty key to getting the hinge pin back in. You need to open your 2DS so it's folded nearly flat face down otherwise the pin won't align. Start nearly flat and just close the lidever so slowly while pushing on the pin until you feel it slot into place. It jumps in the video to the bit where he's pushing it in fully but missed the bit where it's put in place. Apart from that it's a great tutorial, thanks for making it!
    Another highly recommended tip is to check the LCD is fully working before installing everything. At 2:09 you can unplug the LCD ribbon and plug in your new screen to test it. That was you don't end up installing everything and finding you may have a faulty LCD (Which can happen with Chinese imports) You can then repeat this step every so often to just check the screen is still working at various steps where you may damage the ribbon cables. It makes diagnosing an issue much easier.

    Legit just finished doing this fix on my bf's 2DS XL and I gotta say it was a rough journey but following his video was so beyond helpful man; thank you so much for your work. My biggest issue was getting the hinge back in place. I hadn't realized I fucked that part up until I was damn near ready to put the last 4 screws on the bottom case. I had to go back and take parts out again, but I realized I had to just keep repositioning the 2DS so the hinge would juts fall into place. You made that part seem so easy lol
    The repair was frustrating, but satisfying; it was really fucking hard, I won't front, but not totally unfair. This was my first console fix, so I'm feeling pretty proud, and again thanks for the video man.

    @6:16 OMG, please everyone if you are like me and need to replace just the casing and not the screen (the hinges are notorious for breaking on these) DO NOT PULL APART LIKE THIS. You need to roll up the ribbon cable and gently slide it through the latch or you will have a significant chance of ripping the cable and then needing to also replace your screen. Edit: oh and that metal bushing you push into the middle of the bottom half of the case (you won't see it) when reassemble and then pull the cables through and then push the bushing to lock the two halves together. Trying to reassemble it with the bushing on the top half made it unnecessarily more complicated. Otherwise, good tutorial. Oh and that top plastic plate that is glued down is a pain in the ass to separate.

I can do it without the vid but just want it for triple checking. Every time I get to this part I almost cry lmao the hinge pin makes me wanna front flip off a basketball hoop do a 360 then land straight onto my face going downhill at 65mph. Hi, is the circle next to the top screen just a magnet? My system doesn't enter sleep mode when I close it and my understanding is that a magnet in the top is what triggers sleep mode. I've been scouring the internet for a fix to this but all I can find are people saying to put a magnet near your buttons to see if that's what the issue is, but no solutions on fixing it if that's the case. If all I need to do is take the top cover and replace the magnet, that would be great!

So to put it in place I had to hold the screen portion of the shell almost fully open so that I could slide the hinge piece through the main body shell slot and then through the screen body slot. took me about an hour to figure out 😓
