I have no idea how he plans to review gadgets without table. I've seen a lot of reviewers and among them, I think Michael fisher maybe? Is the only one since he goes outside and stuff but in the end, laptops are generally used... On a table. Not using a table for reviewing seems impossible

Dave, since you made this video, there has been a bios update for the Alienware M15 R5 that unlocks CUDA cores on the 3070, boosts the wattage limit to 130W, and a MUX switch and TCC offset for manual control of the max temps for the CPU. I was wondering if you might revisit the laptop with these additional features now unlocked?

It's actually up to 140 watts now, with the new flash bios update via boost.

Nice review, I like that you point out differences. Someone that really wants those front firing speakers and a nice trackpad can just opt for last years model and probably save money and get better FPS too.

Some interesting things on the machine.
I do like the fact that they have both intel and amd options.
I also like the fact it has some gamer features, but it would not stand out too much in the conference room.
(a lot of business guys are now grown up gamers from yesteryears).
One thing I DID notice - the mute microphone key in the upper right - that is pretty cool - especially in the new world of remote working/gaming.

I think you finally hit the nail on the head with the studio setup, like there is a table or desk for functionality, but at the same time this side view makes it more personal, like you are having an inclusive discussion with your audience.
I just bought an r4 and love it. Could have waited a little longer for this but I really needed a laptop now.

I loved the style you went for in the previous video about the Ipad. That for me was the perfect setup. This feels more sinister. But what I would recommend is that you can use some kind of a stand or pedestal for your products while you sit down on a bar chair.
I see they've smoothed the corners of the Chassis. I loose skin once a week with my M15 R4 LOL

On a serious note, I think the table is not the problem. If you're aiming for minimalist, the whole setup does not scream minimalist. It looks like a storagr room.

Dell has been in bed with Intel for decades. Of course they keep the 3080 for that sku.
Even though the table is back, I enjoyed the setup, really shows off the room.
I like how you choose your lighting and clothes carefully when making your videos. It provides a great ambiance to all your videos. ✊🏾
Dave's search for a perfect setup makes his videos even more interesting to watch and wait for the next one.
Tbh, his old setup was perfect, imho. I know he doesn't like it, but I wouldn't mind if he got back to it. The aquarium is cool, though!

Seems very likely there would be a kind of brand loyalty/deal between them and Intel for the high-end GPU/CPU configuration considering how long it has been Intel only I think brand can't just slap an AMD in it's place because they want to.

The RTX 3070 is the best of the 3 GPUs. You don't wan't the low future proof performance of the 3060 (specially in the watered down R5 series) and neither the heat of the 3080. The main default of the R5 is the lack of membrane x key RGB keyboard: the 4 zone is worse and the MX is just bad and limited to US.

I bought and returned an m17 r4 recently. The MX was the one thing in it that wasn't bad.
@@isodoubIet The per key RGB membrane keyboard is more silent, saves 100 bucks and is probably more durable. Sadly the R4 in my region is only offered with either the 4 zone RGB (way inferior to the x key) or the MX in english international (not in my language). So yeah, is a pretty terrible deal. I think that the R4 series is better than the R5 but currently is on sale (sadly most of the units do use the 3080, which is a bad chice for a laptop so thin). I'll wait to the R6/X17, the R5 seems a good deal but I won't spent 2500 € in gaming laptop without per key membrane keyboard.
@@Buran01 I don't know about durability. Sound is not too loud but has that annoying metallic ping, but I found I could get used to it rather easily. It is grossly overpriced though (180 on my model). Despite that, I think I'd get it again when I get another alienware, which will be never.
The X17 is even thinner it looks like. I don't know if it'll do the 3080 properly, even with the four fans.
@@Buran01 R6 would be similar, either decide you'll go for a x17 or simply meanwhile try the zephyrus m16 meanwhile.

Thank you for being honest and criticising Alienware for this year’s R5 and R6. Both are not my cup of tea. Frankly, the M-series seems more attractive

Just got the Ryzen m15 R5 w 3070 and opted for the 1TB 32 GB option and am having a blast with it. I’m not a tech reviewer obvs but for what I want and need this is the best laptop I’ve ever owned. Gaming is laptop butter smooth with the 3070 laptop being about akin to the 2070 SUPER in my desktop, it seems. I’m probably not as versed in what the other orgs are putting out but for me, the R5 hits the sweet spot.

Who is revisiting this Video? Dell has seemingly fixed most of the issues, Max TGP to 130W(Dynamic Boost) through vBIOS, MUX switch for base model, inclusion of SSD bracket from manufacturer, still no 3080 on Ryzen but the intel versions do and surprisingly enough the m15 discounts compare it to the Legion 5

Perfect position at the desk, off center and blocking the tank, void wall open for text. Just a great cinematography approach to tech is astonishing and why I watch. Their track pads are hit or miss with any model and they dropped the price and cut cost. Look forward to the x reviews.

Dude, turn the whole video into a holographic show with you reviewing units and showing the product using CGI (next to or in front of you) and you could throw in a couple of shots explaining internals or keyboard layout, key strokes or whatever, so you don’t have to use a table, as you wished before.
I love your videos and I’m just suggesting ideas for you to keep the great work.
Love the colour of the sweater and the shirt.. making the point they ignored everyones favourite colour options! I’m glad you said the pros and cons compared to competitors. Does Alienware not like seeing benchmarks you usually compare against other competitors laptops?
Also the aquarium or “living thing” sort of vibe. I think you’re sort of craving life. Animals plants people. In a world of tech. You’re seeking vibrance. In the most literal sense, and your actions in studio and and even clothing kind of show it. Even in a tech focused and neutral sort of environment. It’s very dynamic. It’s like musical dynamics.

I got the m15 R3, and I am happy with it... Great machine for the price and specs... Runs my games in ultra settings and RTX On with ease.... Can't complain!
And yes, you are right, it is clear that the R5 and R6 are no longer meant to be the stars of the show, but the new X-Series.
I think I like the muted design choice its a good balance between overly gaudy vs minimalistic!
It’s more about the fact that you don’t have a choice anymore. The product now only caters to customers like you that prefer this, but it’s in fact probably minimizing their sales by half. It’s not a product I would buy anymore unfortunately…. Maybe I would have gotten the X series if they offered a 15 inch display but again, that is not the case. It looks like they made all the wrong choices this year and I will have to switch to another brand.
Thanks for the vid, my m5 just arrived today and I decided to return it. As you said, it is not a bad laptop, but I get fewer and downgraded features by paying the same price as r4.

This video's editing style is much more bold than most of Dave's other stuff. The words are larger, and the colors are stronger. I like this new look, but I also still very much enjoy his old style as well.

I know it’s annoying ot use a dongle, but for a large majority of people, they just don’t use it enough to justify to keep it on the laptop. Although on a laptop this big, I’m sure that they still coulda put one in.
The white color was the bomb! Really cool, so sad it’s gone.
This was the move I love the aesthetic looks great!
