    From what I understand these are Ronn Dunnett crafted. Enough said. This is top of the line!

      Yes.. They are.. Very thin shell and differently made than the original..

    There are really not that heavy. I easily moved the kit around.

      how do the edges work? are they rounded off? it looks quite thin.

    • @dunnettclassicdrums
      @dunnettclassicdrums 7 років тому +11

      Now, how could you possibly tell how thick or thin the shells are from a video?

    • @RoeShamBoe
      @RoeShamBoe 7 років тому +9

      well compared to my SLP 10 (13?) ply wood snare or brass Sensitone which has a curved inward lip, the bearing edge looks quite thin in the video, not really sure how it's hard to see that? anyway, just an honest question, guess you're not interested in answering it. have a good day.

      The edges are perfectly radiused - by hand. They represent the finest edges you can install on a metal shell.

    In my experience Ludwig snare drums get peak performance from Ludwig heads. Same with bass drums mostly. Cant quite tell if its the head or tuning on the snare it has a slight boxy tone going on. Listening through a Bose. Toms and kick sound punchy in a good way.
    Vistalites looked very cool but were fragile as an egg and prone to cracks and sound less than typical wood drums. How heavy is the 24? Need strong hoops to keep these round. Heavy cases with temperature control to keep the metal from flexing from temp. Id be checking every screw on this kit if it got real cold or hot. Better studio kit, looks fantastic.
    Although theres some nice tones going on with these, Ludwig needs to get back out to the woodshed and leave the foundry mill to improving stands and lugs. Sharp edges? why didnt they fold metal over like on the old snares? Refine cymbal stands to be lighter and stronger. In the past Ludwig hardware was notorious for slipping. Liked to have seen the front spurs. As far as drums, the trees really have got this covered.

      Bradwick 1, I'm with you on Ludwigs heads, however I've been informed by my dealer that they have discontinued making most heads except for snare batters and bass reso heads if I remember correctly. I recently got my 2 last drums 8x7 and 10x7 and they came with Ludwig branded Remo coated heads. Whoda thunk it???

    I wish Ludwig would make the Stainless Steel in the following power sizes: 6” 8” 10” 12” 14” 16” and 20”x28” long kick. The steel would add more projection/volumes for the small drum sizes without sacrificing the integrity of the drums 👍

    Nick is using the dull-sounding Evans 56 (synthetic) Calf Tone drum heads when he should have been using the clear two-ply Remo Emperor drum heads! If you use the clear two-ply Remo Emperor drum heads ― along with the Paste 2002 series Bronze cymbals ― only then, will you have the ultimate drum and percussion sound: Ne plus ultra. (And do not forget the proper tunings!) Cheers!

    Please might someone build a "cutaway" bass drum (like an TRIXON bass drum) so those of us who like our toms set lower can still use a 24" kick and we can place our toms in the cutaway. thanks in advance! :)

    these are cool, but a few years ago i had a 1976 Ludwig Stainless kit, 24x14/14x10/18x16, i used Ambassadors & Emperors top and bottom, and they sounded not only way better than these, but were literally 5x louder (and they actually did have the beveled top and bottom bearing edges on the shells, 45 degree if i remember correctly, kick included. i don't know why these wouldn't). i only sold them out of dire straits, and kinda took too little for them, but i miss them every day

    • @mellilore
      @mellilore 7 років тому

      I still own some '70s Ludwig stainless steel concert toms (10x18 which I use as super-portable jazzette bass-drum, 10x14 and 8x12, the rest of my "Stainless Steel Jazzette") and yes they have the beveled edges, only to me they look to be 30° (just like the old 3ply with re-rings Ludwig wooden shells up to 1975/76), not 45°. And again yes, they are a lot louder than this...

    • @acarlovonsexron1994
      @acarlovonsexron1994 7 років тому

      DW apparently is doing stainless steel now, WITH the beveled edges. We'll see if they possess the same magic.

      Yeah, they say they're 1.5mm, I wouldn't know how that compares to the Ludwig of the 70s. I feel like I read somewhere that the steel they used back then for those shells is no longer commercially available, like they're only used by the military for aircraft or shipbuilding or something along those lines.

    Can anyone explain bearing edges to me? What are they?

    • @richardpine8011
      @richardpine8011 7 років тому

      The edge of the drum that the head comes into contact with. A sharper edge has more sensitivity and overtones, a rounder edge, 30 degree or completely rounded has a much warmer, dryer, vintage tone. Look at the differences between a Craviotto snare with 45 degree edges and a fully fully rounded baseball bat edge. They sound much different.

    Look great, but not a fan of how they’re manufactured. Why wouldn’t they keep the original bearing edge? I’ve got a 70s S/s it’s got phat bearing edges. It’s an important part of its sound. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s almost like Ludwig took the cheaper route in the manufacturing process of these reissued S/s. Beautiful looking but my 70s bass drum sounds eons better. Those were wrong heads for this promo, too. He overstates these drums are gear best for rock and even suggests which heads you should be using for rock, then proceeds to play rock on drums with synthetic calfskin heads?🤦🏻‍♂️😂

    Evans heads are made cheap and are overpriced. With certain products to use when cleaning dirt and marks off of the head remo heads will be just fine but it will melt an Evans head

    • @ryanbates362
      @ryanbates362 6 років тому +1

      First of all, moron, both Remo and Evans make many different types of heads out of many different types of material, so you can't just make a blanket statement like "Evans heads melt". Second, how are Evans heads made "cheap"? Have you seen the manufacturing process? I don't think I've ever put a hole in an Evans head. The only real difference I can think of between the two is that Evans heads actually sit flat on the drum and don't need to be seated.
