Oh, I forgot to thank you for making the video where you quickly keep changing the bass drum size which really allows one to hear the difference and then pick out the sound that is best.
I was set on saving money for a set of DW collectors series which would take me years to obtain until I ran across these. I have officially changed my mind! I still love the DW collectors series but for less than a quarter of the price I’ll gladly take a set of these. Man I love these! Great sound as far as on video through good sound equipment. I would love to get a kit with the 24” kick and add a 14” floor Tom to make it a 1 up 2 down set. I’ll be putting up every dollar I can stand to hide from my wife now till I’m able to get a set of these.
Marcus Benavidez Hey man, I was just wondering how it sounds. Does it sound the same as it does in this video? I’m extremely interested in getting one. I actually was looking for a kit that has that dry woody sound that this kit has so I was super excited to see how cheap this was.
I bought a PDP kit from a local drummer (he was upgrading to bigger drums, still PDP), in "Ox Blood", with a 24" kick, 9x13, 16X16, 18X16, & it sounds AWESOME.
These maples sound amazing.....especially with big band tensioning (coated resonant and batter), a 6.5x14 LM 402 and Paiste 2002/Giant Beats up top. My only "complaint" is that DW didn't utilize die cast triple flange hoops while developing this kit. If DW would offer these tone monsters with the feature above.....I'd purchase the kit without question. DW is onto something here. These sizes are insane for worship as well. I’m playing with the idea of using my 15-20 year old pdp drums (piece birch or maple) for praise. And try to get one of these massive ones for worship
This is the set I've been looking for & in the big sizes that I think sound best - but I wish they would also offer the mounted tom in 14x10. I like 26, 16, 18, 14 but 13 is not too bad. Something about large sized drums that really inspires me to play my a$$ off. I will get them as soon as Guitar Center offers a 0% 48 month financing deal. I really like that they are light weight too. I'm getting older & weaker and don't want to tire out setting up heavy drums.
I heard Dave play these on this video and bought 24,13,16 and 14 x 6.5 matching snare. Black shells with Black hoops. WOW. Bought used for $600 (+ 100 for snare} Better than any Ludwig Bonham Kit. PERIOD>
I never picked up on lower end drums. But my church plays on this kit series and I will admit that it is pretty damn good sounding for the price you pay. Plus the over all finish and feel to this kit series feels more like a brand with higher quality.
They're not cheap use the word affordable it rolls off the tongue so much better. I really think Pdp has stepped up with the whole concept series. They're really, in my opinion, as good as high end expensive kits only affordable for most drummers without breaking the bank.
My best buddy plays an Ayotte kit, and he bought these 13" and 16" toms as add on. Former DW player, traded in for wood hoops. He's traveling now and has his drums in storage, so I picked up the toms in brand new, out of the box condition for a steal! The 24" will be here this Tuesday, got a great reduced price on it too! I'm seriously considering the snare as well, for the price point it's hard to resist! Always wanted wood hoops myself, and this is my first new kit! Been on 1968 Ludwig's my whole life, all 54 years of drumming! Ayotte were the #shiz in the day, these are VERY CLOSE!
The fuck did I slept on those.....?! That 26, man... holy shit. I love small drums when gigging, but I still remember playing a 28" DW collector. Felt like the entire room moved every single time you'd hit it lmao. Wood hoops sounds much better on toms in my opinion, than regular hoops. Snare drum sounds gnarly too! I think the bop set will do it for me tho as a second kit, it's beautiful to boot. Will get like the 18" and add a 26" à-la-carte, then set those two up side-by-side in the studio to have two bass drums. Just set-up a cheap double bass with no beater on the main, only slave beater, with the rod upside-down, and you get yourself a dual bass-drum set-up!!!
LOVE THE WOOD RIMS. the sound is incredibly natural. no metallic overtones. for the price, pdp are very impressive. i secretly, really want a set of wood rim drums. hide them in a secret room with a secret passage way, and they'll be my dirty secret.
So, I just bought this exact kit with an additional 18 in floor Tom and a DW collectors series aluminum snare (6.5x14).. it hasn’t arrived yet.. so I’m curious what everyone here has to say about what I can expect.. suggestions for heads, maybe some tuning tips. I’m also using 16inch Zildjian k sweet hats, 18 inch k efx, 20 inch k sweet crash and a 21 inch k sweet ride.. in case anyone wants to know 😄
These sound great out of the box at deep tuning but I recommend a hire tuning and I'm wondering if cast hoops would sound better. Great video still as a matter of fact this sold me on the drums and I appreciate that sir and crew.
@DW Drums I'm very keen to get set here in NZ for my first real kit, Just wondering is it possible through my dealer to get a 18 wide x 16 deep floor tom preferably matching or similar (I'm going for a bonham setup) at a later date as a add on?
jesse bruce Rockshop are the NZ dealers and I have found them really great to deal with. If you are in Auckland K road has the dedicated drum store and they are excellent, any branch should be able to do a custom order for anything you want of any of the brands. Usually do two main orders a year so you might have to wait a few months before you finally get it in the hand. Currently waiting on a crash to come in that wasn't in the country so they were able to bring one in with their next shipment no worries.
