Turkish Wrap "Tantuni" With Ground Beef & Lavash Bread Recipe

- Make Turkish style meat wrap "Tantuni" with minced meat. It is popular street food in Istanbul and all of Turkey but the recipe known from Mersin City on the coast of the Mediterranean. I am also going to show you how to make Turkish flatbread lavash too.
Here is the written recipe on my website: www.turkishfood...
Traditionally Tantuni is made from a steak or tender beef and doesn't have peppers. But in this home version, I used ground beef for making it easy and lox budget and some veggies to give extra juice and taste.
Ingredients For Tantuni, Turkish Meat wrap:
500gr. minced meat (preferable fatty or a mix of beef and lamb if you like)
4-5 tbsp olive oil
1 onion
1 sweet red pepper
3 sweet or mild hot green peppers
1 big ripened tomato
If your meat doesn't have much fat, you can add 1-2 tbsp butter
salt, red pepper flakes, ground red pepper, cumin (about a tsp each or as desired)
about 4-6 tbsp water
For the Lavash Flatbread:
1 cup lukewarm water
3-4 tbsp milk
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp active dry yeast
about 3 cups or little more flour (don't add all at once)
1 tsp salt
a rolling pin
griddle or big nonstick wide pan to cook
more flour to dust
For Assembling The Wrap:
1 red onion
1/2 tsp salt and sumac (sumac optional)
preferably 1/4 crisp iceberg lettuce or regular lettuce, thinly sliced
thinly sliced tomato
thinly sliced pickles
"Story of the Word Tantuni"
According to the story, a Yoruk (A nomadic man) boils the meat to preserve it longer, sets up his counter, and puts a stove near a school. his purpose is to roast boiled meat in oil and sell it to students. He also adds Tomato, parsley, and onion to the wrap. Students ask the man who made this food, which has no name yet, "you hit the spoon every time and make a sound "tan tun" what are you selling?"
This reflection sound of the spoon, the sound of "tan tun", inspires the man and gives the answer AS "tantuni".

Lavash Bread is similar we say 'roti' here in Pakistan with less ingredients 😊😊😊❤ looks yummy may ALLAH almighty bless you more, ameen ❤
Same here in Malaysia, we called it roti as well 🙂
@@hazelguzel1477 ❤
Here we say Pita bread in USA.
No Lavash bread is different. Taste different too. Pakistani roti is flat but dense whereas Lavash bread is flat but airy and light like tortilla bread.
@@dr.samirasiddiqi thats why I said with less ingredient . Way of making is similar we also make roti on tawa. We use just flour, water and salt thats why its taste different.
I am from San Antonio, Texas. The food you made is a staple in Texas. We call them "Taco". Same meat and vegetables, even the spices are the same. The only thing different instead of Pickles we use Avocados. The bread is called "Tortilla" and are smaller and thicker. Look up "Tex-Mex food" , its all good!
I guess that looking at the dish it comes across as a taco but the difference in flavor is distinct. Its the tomato/onion/parsley (not used in this video) combo with SUMAC, and soaking the lavash bread before assembling that makes this distinctly different from a taco. Tantuni is traditionally made with a round steak in cuts similar to fajita size pieces. Paprika and salt are usually the only flavorings added to the beef. You're correct though, they're all good!
Has something of an appearance of tacos or burritos here in the West. Awesome recipes!
Salaam from USA. Mashallah food looks tasty!!!
Salam thanks
This looks so good ..i love all your recipes I have tried so far.. thank you! I wanted to add , to peel tomatoes I core the stem with the point of my knife then cut an x at other end and put in hot water while I dice other veggies and voila skin peels off by then..
Thanks! This looks amazing! Turkish cuisine is so delicious.
Mashallah, you even make your bread from SCRATCH! Amazing! Happy homes filled with food are the BEST homes.
Thank you 😊
The story of the name of dish is very interesting very simple and refreshing dish I will try soon inshah Allah
This looks absolutely delicious, and I'm sure I could polish off two without any problem!
Lavash, or what we call 'roti', is probably the oldest recipe in the world, used in many different cultures
Watching you cook is such a joy. You have such amazing skills! Did you skin that tomato with a knife?! Those rolling pin skills! Wow. Just, wow. Food of course also looks amazing.
I am very grateful to you for showing us how to make this delicious Turkish dish. I like that you told the story of where the name "Tantuni" came from and also that you made this with minced beef as it is a cheaper way for people to do this. You also sound like you have an Aussie accent which makes me happy. I apologise if I am wrong. Where would we all be without these fantastic dishes that people are sharing. Great food is what always brings people together, no matter where, and I thank you!!
Teşekkür ederim!

The Lavash bread is called in Bengal side of India as rumali roti but instead of wrapping we eat with any of the dishes like green Dal or lentil fried with chicken and eggs . It's yum same yummy you also cooked .
This is my realization though we aren't living in same country but somewhere the cuisine tells the story that world's people are actually same . Lots of love , keep up with all your activities focused with positivity of course your way of presenting the cuisine brings joy to me . Thanks to you .God bless you.

Aysenur there is a wonderful fast way to remove a tomato skin, all you do is make a very small slit just in the skin (only a shallow slit) with a sharp knife put it in a bowl and cover it with boiling water let sit about a minute- remove and you will see how easy the skin peels off without damage to the fruit. Please do try it's so fast.👌🇿🇦
In Bangladesh we make roti, which is quite similar to lavash bread. We don't use yeast and sugar. Thank you so much for sharing such yummy recipes.

I am biggest fan of Biryani 👍❤️💐 from Turkey 🇹🇷
I thought Biryani was an Indian dish not Turkish?
@@brissygirl4997 Beryani is originally an indian culture but it could export to Persia and Arab land also but for Turkish it is new great challenge since it is not similar to Turkish cuisine so let us see how our friend Aysenur can do it ...
When Turkish food is cooked and eaten all over the world. And people like it too. So biryani, korma, kadhai, dal and rice can also be made and eaten. It's up to the Turkish people to decide what they like most about food. And when aysenur altan sister respond well to people's opinions. And like people's comments. So who asked you to joke or argue in their comments?
Looks so yummy 😋 will definitely try this

You’re the best🌈🎖
My pleasure 😊
Really you’re the best..🎖
Amazing dish.. Luv from Pakistan
Salaam Aysenur! Interesting story about the origin of the name 'Tantuni'. There is a Pakistani dish of the name Takatan, a pan-fried curry which takes it's name from the metallic clacking sound of the metal spatula-type utensil against the metal tava used whilst cooking to mash and mix the vegetables, according to Pat Chapman of The Curry Club and food author. The British dish 'Bubble and Squeak' is named because of the sound of the food being cooked in the pan, also!
Ma shaa allah abla ellerine saglik cok güzel olmus
