Back then :
- 3rd job and 4th job were at lvl 70 and lvl 120
- We level up thru PQs , my favorite one been Carnival PQ
- Bishops , Night Lords , and Dark Knights were the "trifecta" of old school Maple.
- We did not have super flashy skills , we just have simple and straight forward skills
- Our skills did not have many lines , the most lines a skill could have was Night Lord been 6 lines with Triple Throw + Shadow partner
- Not all classes have a teleport or a flash jump , only Night Lord will have flash jump and mages teleport
- We use the Free Market a lot and people were outside selling and spamming , only some would have stores. No auction house as it is now
- We would do the lvl 36 GFA 60% quest at NLC either for personal use or to sell it and many more quest that were worth doing
- We would have to use two ability stats or else you wont be able to equip
- In addition to that , there were many classes that would go like "dexless sin" , "strless arche" , "Lukless mage" , and etc. that would use a Maple weapon
- The pain of doing quest to get the 4th job skills , and the extra pain of finding Mastery Books that are 70% and 50% that can fail us many times :)
- We only have 10 classes , and when pirates were launch with Buccaneer and Corsair , there was a total of 12 classes and that was it
- Zakum and Horntail were the "two big bosses" back then before Pink Bean came , and we needed around 12-18 players together. (NO SOLO BACK THEN)
- Items only needed to be scroll and that was it. Now there is things like Cubing , bonus cubing , star forcing. (Well Reboot only Star forcing and cubing)
- If I recall correctly , your first ever main was a Bowmaster , then you switch to Night Lord , then switch to Wind Archer , then have a short one with Pathfinder , and eventually coming back to your roots again !
- Also you're looking for Headless Horseman boss it drops the Jack o Lantern , an item for the Silver Deputy quest
- Lastly , the strafe skill , I think you will do 14k-15k per line :D

I like how back in the day people made private servers to make the game easier so everyone can level up and get all the neat skills so they can PERFORM the way they wanted to. But even in those private servers, because less attention was needed to grinding the sense of community was there. Now people make private servers to make the game harder
Dude, maplestory was my whole childhood, everytime i watch videos about this game tears start falling. Seriously. It makes me remember all those innocent times i didnt have to worry about anything. Literally just have fun with my friends. Which are all gone now :(

Peak Maple to me was right before Big Bang update. I loved it. When they introduced cubing to the game, the idea of basically a built in damage cap raise was huge. Super fun to chase those stats. But that was the beginning of how power creep killed the essence of maple.

I swear man, why do people have to act like old-school and current maple couldn't exist at the same time. Everyone acts like it's pick one or the other, but I love both of them. Give us old-school server, you could even tie it in with current GMS. Let your main add to legion or something... people guaranteed would play. Old-school is basically the only reason why private servers still exist.
Edit: Also equipment progression in old-school is my favorite by far. I hate that for me to get one piece of gear it needs scrolls,cubes,flames,stars, AND b-pot. Bring me back to just scrolling for a while.. please...
I've always enjoyed watching old school maple videos for the nostalgia. I hope someday Nexon introduces an old-school server. GMS these days feels more like a chore than a game, dailies and bossing for the sake of increasing damage. Miss all the friends I made in Windia from 06-09.

Just when I thought a WA youtuber is back and was hyped, but I'm glad you're happy with old school maple and bowmaster
I started playing Maplestory when I was 12, pretty much as soon as Big Bang was released. I never got to experience this real oldschool maplestory but I still feel such a large difference. One of the things I miss the most is the sense of exploration I felt as a noob. I gravitated towards thief class and used the skill that makes you invulnerable as long as you don't attack. I would go places that I definitely shouldnt have been in as a level 30 or so, checking out the really cool monster designs and locations. ( I thought ludi and leafre were the coolest places in the world! ) I probably spent more time just looking around the world and chatting with friends in henesys than I did leveling up. Also very fun to take the ships everywhere!
Very true, the skill you're referring to is dark sight, and as a squishy bowman exploring and trying to find my way around I remember being suuuuper jealous of that skill haha. I had to try and avoid mobs that looked too strong so I didn't die and lose 8-11% of my exp. Great times, I also thought Ludibrium's clock tower was one of the most fascinating places. That and aqua road haha.
I did this in sleepywood. The tree place with the drakes. Good memories. I wish i could blast back to the times when i could lose my self in a world like maplestory.
I started playing Maple in 2005 and when Big Bang was going to release there was a lot of controversy and divisiveness. Some stayed, some quit. While it was different, Maple was already changing before this major update. I still enjoyed "new" maple at the time and exploration was still a thing! The last time I played GMS was Reboot in 2017. I did enjoy my time but nostalgia is a hell of a drug. That's not to say that everything was peachy with old maple because it definitely wasn't. Still, as long as you enjoy a game no one can tell you which version is best except you!
I remember when Phantom Forest was relatively new and I ran into Big Foot. I was on my level 60-ish assassin and had gotten lost in the forest. I was just trying to find my way back for some time when I suddenly ran into him. I just wanted to run past him and it missed me; I had no idea what that thing was so I didn't really think much of it. I can't remember how exactly but fairly soon after I found out what it was and how lucky I got, lol.
I've got some very fond memories of this game and while it's been a very long time since I played I will always remember it as a good, peaceful, more innocent time in my life. From time to time, I feel the urge to look up videos like these and I expect that to happen for a whole lot longer. It's nice to see a lot of people feel the same way.

tbh some private servers are better than anything that nexon could do with oldschool ms
it baffles me that nexon still hasn't released a maplestory classic yet. there's so much money there that they just refuse to touch for years
also a side note: big bang did not kill maple, tempest killed maple
Honestly, unless they somehow lost all the assets for old maple then it doesn't make obvious sense why they never released it themselves... maybe because it would be like them admitting their mistakes? Or because there isn't enough ways to generate revenue in old maple for them to stay a float, and since many GMS players might swap over it can hurt them more than help them financially? Who knows. Certainly there has to be a reason why they've neglected this option all these years.
@@CrownedGaming I could see those being genuine concerns, but when runescape and wow do so well with their classic modes it's just a missed opportunity there. but you're right, i'm sure there's some underlying reason why they're not doing it. they still should though, it's not too late

I quit after Tempest Patch on early 2013 but cameback on 2015 for Reboot , but to be honest Tempest patch did not killed Maple.
According to the people who never quit and kept playing until today , they said that the patch that make many people quit was the so called "Unleashed" patch. Bosses got inflated a lot , bonus potential was introduce , you kind of need to pay loads amount of money if you wanna keep up, and it was the time where the game was "the most Pay2win", then on 2014 or so according to some on the Red Patch , it got a bit more "Free to play friendly". But yeah , I just stick with Reboot LOL

Years of playing maple story GMs I finally found the classes that I love phantoms mihaile bishop all support classes I love because I missed the old way of maple where every class does matter and is unique

I successfully set up HeavenMS v83 and I'm enjoying my new GM account. But how do I update my Heaven MS v83 to the latest version of GMS?
Obviously both current MS and oldschool MS have positives and negatives. I'm too invested in my guild on Bera to switch (and I would argue that playing in an active guild is the only way to enjoy playing current MS) but watching pre big bang gameplay style is definitely nostalgic x1000. I didn't even try to guess the damage. But glad to see you back on the grind :P
Oh for sure, nothing is perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I agree that an integral part of playing GMS today is their Guild system; if not for guilds the game could certainly feel real lonely and almost like a solo player game with AI running around lol. 30-40k im guessing. I was so young when i started playing I never knew what good damage was so im hoping thats about right. don't even think I made it past level 40 on old school since I was clueless but definately one of the best times of my life.
Great guess, it was definitely a struggle to level past lv 40 as a kid in old school. You really had to be dedicated to keep going haha.

I miss the old school MS. where there used to be just four classes. PQs were all the rage and guilds were full of friendly people.
Now people just grind and that’s it. Trading and Free Market economy is ignored because of the new server -_-
my problem with new maple is that the upgrade curve is so insane at around 1 mil damage range and managing all your characters and all sorts of different shit, tbh i started playing old maple because its a lot more simple
Am I nostalgic for old school MS? Yes, 1000%. The game made up so much of my childhood and I have tons of memories from the game, both good and bad. Would I play old school MS today, official or not? Ehh can't really say I would.
There's so much about old school MS that was fine when I was a kid but would be a pain now that I'm an adult with more responsibilities and less free time. Also HP washing will always leave a sour taste in my mouth.
That being said I do play modern MS quite a bit, although pretty casually. Who knows, maybe I'd have more fun casually playing old school MS than modern MS. Modern MS does have its own huge time sinks after all. Wish they'd release legacy servers though.
I always knew I'd enjoy playing an old school version of MapleStory. Like yourself, it played a key role for me growing up and I wanted to 'relive' many things in the old Maple. After having spent quite some hours on old school, I definitely can't say I was surprised. Enjoyed the hell out of it. Still hop on it from time to time.
More time IS needed I suppose to progress in old school, but at the same time the beautiful thing about it is that there's no rush. The entire journey can be fun, especially if you play with a friend or two. Just like the good old days.
Tried playing reboot maple for some nostalgia and got none of it. Would be nice if nexon made an old school server. Id definitely play it.

My form of "old school Maple" would be before 20k crits were even a potential number. Lol. Back when hitting 3k was incredible. If you had a +8 attack or higher White Glove, you were unstoppable.

I remember hitting 2k~2.3k on a crit with strafe on my lvl 75 xbowman. Those were the days hehe
Similarly I remember hitting around 1.8k~2k on my 75 ranger way back. I remember trying to get past hitting 2.5k/line to be able to knockback headless I think.... Been a long time haha.

12k hp is for bf leech threshold at that level u should only have 4.5k hp w/o hb; hp wash is possible to reach 12k hp

I guessed 5k per line. Hard to believe i used to dream of hitting savage blow as a bandit and the result would have been (at MAX) 100 damage per line if i got the skill to level 20-30

and Jimothy Cool had to quit making MapleRoyals videos because they were constantly getting channel strikes on youtube, and their twitch accounts got banned. if you're not afraid then go for it man, just know you might lose your channel.

Old(ish) vid. But I prefer .83 servers. Still harder, pre big bang content, but you get OG aran an cygnus knights. Sometimes these servers have the knights be revamped to have a 4th job like the rest, there's a newish popular server that does that and it's great. But Aran was my favorite class pre big bang, and was when I really got into the game, so I always gravitate to that. If I'm not on modern reboot that is.
Ah yes, og Aran and CK's. I mained WA when they first came out, thought getting hurricane 20 lvls earlier than Bowmaster's was a steal lol. What a different time back then.
